Just back from a fantastic stay at this site. The views are stunning, the stream running through the site is great for kids. My little one especially enjoyed all the rabbits running around in the morning.

The facilities are poor as previous people have mentioned. I was charged £12 a night for three of us and have stayed at sites with far better facilities than that for that price. The owners are eccentric but charming.

Our second night was slightly spoiled by three t*****s who thought its 'cool' to play loud music until midnight on a site full of families with very young children.

All in all a thorough recommendation from me, but I dread to think what it is like at weekend after experiencing our three friends

A very relaxed child friendly, dog friendly party friendly site. We spent the weekend at this site with 3 other family groups in their own tents.
The weather and views were amazing and we managed to secure pitches right infront of the stream (handy for keeping the beer cold). The kids in our group had a fantastic time and loved the freedom and open spaces that the site offered them.
Although the camp was busy it never felt over crowded and although going to the loo in the pitch dark in the middle of the night can be daunting whislt trying to criss cross guy ropes, we felt safe all the time.
The area is outstanding and the walks amazing. We had Sunday lunch in one of the local pubs and everyone cleared their plates which is always a good sign of quality.
The camp is very, very basic and the ladies toilets would benefit hugely from regular cleaning and maintainance. None of the members of our group would use the one and only unisex shower as it was extremeley dirty and uniniviting.
Despite the lack of amentities we all agreed that we would definitley return to this camp site again, however it would only be for a maximum of 2 nights due to the lack of faciliites for washing and bathing.
The cost of the site was reasonable in terms of paying for location, and as everyone knows its all about location, location, location ! and this is definiteley one of the best locations.

Gordale is a basic but inexpensive campsite. It has plenty of space which the owner thoughtfully manages to try and keep everyone happy by keeping an area for families, an area for DoE campers, couples etc.

The facilities on site are limited in number considering the size of the site, but perfectly respectable. You'll need a supply of 10p coins for the shower (each of which buys a nicely rounded two minutes fifteen seconds of hot water!)

Malham itself is a pleasant 20-30 minute walk away along a path through Wedber Wood, which takes you past Janet's Foss. This beats trying to walk the road, which is narrow and steep in parts.

If you're planning to have an evening meal in Malham, it may also be worthwhile booking a table rather than just turning up, as the pub we ate at (The Lister Arms) got quite busy on the Saturday evening.

I have to comment about this campsite, because I've never been on a 1 day holiday and had so much fun! The area has so much to do and you can never sit still because you spot something else you want to explore! A must is a walk to Gordale Scar before sunset!

The facilities were exactly what I expected, basic. I expected to be using a toilet in a hole so it was luxury! 1 shower isn't a problem, camping means getting dirty, so personally I didnt bother, but it could be useful for a longer holiday!

The pitch itself was next to the main gate but I never felt it was not private, a bit noisy at night, but it was just nice to hear people enjoying their holiday!

A 5 star camp site! Cheers Malcom for letting us stay at such short notice!

Oh and the recyling area was nice to see, not a put off, it was great to know we still have people who care so much about the environment! Happy camping!

A beautiful campsite set in some of the most dramatic natural scenery imaginable - if you are a hiker make sure that you at the very leastsee Gordale Scar, Janet's Fosse, Malham Tarn and Malham Cove. If you like a more leisurely stroll follow the brook that runs through the campsite to Janet's Fosse and then follow the path into Malham village, it'll take you about half an hour and it's all on the flat.

The campsite divides opinion:our party consisted of 2 tents, 4 adults and 2 dogs and went a bit like this -

Pros - fantastic setting, level pitches next to the brook, reasonably priced, easy to find, quick drainage even after a period of heavy rain. Malcolm, friendly but think Deliverance and you have a perfect picture.

Cons - it is a popular site but the toilets and shower block are not adequate for the numbers staying, can't imagine what it's like in the height of summer, I thought that the gents were clean enough but the women in our group weren't impressed with the ladies and said that they could never use the shower.

The site owner never throws anything away so outside the toilet block there are mounds (all nicely sorted) of disposable BBQ trays, broken chairs, wine and beer bottles, gas canisters, old water bottles etc. The only other drawback on our weekend was a DoE group who were, to put it mildly, not too well behaved.

Would we go again - definitely

We stayed there for Friday & Saturday night in august 2007 and have to say I disagree with quite a lot of the reviews. The drive up to the site is very tight but has passing places. We were on a motorbike so didn’t have any problem at all.
The place is just so beautiful. We had rain most of the weekend but it still didn’t dampen our spirits at all. The owner of the camp was very helpful and always on hand if needed for anything. The showers, toilets and washing facilities were basic but adequate. Not the cleanest BUT you have to remember it is a campsite and not a 5 star hotel. I think that’s the fun of it sometimes. Were charged £9.00 per night for 2 adults, a 3 man tent and a motorbike which I though was reasonable.
The views are spectacular and the waterfall is a must to see. If you enjoy walking then this is the place to be. It’s about a mile to the nearest pub but when you get there they have a vast choice of beers to choose from and very friendly. We spent a few hours in settle where there is the local co-op and butchers.aslso a nice bakery with a camp shop nearby. All in all a great weekend despite the poor weather. We will return definitely when it is sunny.

Visited the site from friday night to sunday, with 2 adults 3 kids its about a 20 min walk from malham got the around 4pm is was very quiet at that time with pick of the site which was quiet flat but by 7pm is was full and very packed together got very loud even after the 11pm we had a tent about 2m in front of us which is way too close. The toilets and showers etc are ok but could do with a good clean now and again, only 5 mins walk to the scar
not a bad site but wont go again after first impressions and all the noise etc

Have just spent 3 nights here, with 2 wonderfully sunny days and one rainy and miserable. I agree with all the other comments in that the scenery is fantastic, which makes up for the facilities, which are pretty ropey, although there is always hot water. You just have to take the Glastonbury approach to personal hygiene. We camped near the stream on Thursday and the children had an absolutely idyllic time playing in the water for the entire day.
The place really changed in character though at the weekend, particularly Saturday night when big groups of chavvy young people arrived for a major session. It didn't matter that  Malcolm had separated families from those without kids because the music was so loud the entire campsite could hear it anyway. I moaned to Malcolm about it the next day and he seems to think that because it had gone quiet by around midnight, that was ok. In the meantime though, you've had your entire evening ruined (unless you like banging tunes like Amarillo). The music went on again on Sunday morning when they got up, which again spoiled the whole atmosphere of this beautiful place, even for the ramblers passing through. Definitely a midweek only site for us in future.

St spent the weekend at this site and had a very nice relaxing time with few kids from a youth group. Site was a bit muddy when we arrived on the Friday night but given a little sun on the Saturday it soon dried out. Because of the location you would think that it would be sheltered, but don’t be fooled as the wind did tend to gust through the site at times.
The site facilities are basic with there being only one shower located within the same area as the washing up sink, but it is cheap and there was plenty of hot water. The gents toilets were ok, but could be cleaner. It could benefit from having a better path from the site road up to the facilities as the current trail is very uneven and slippery when wet. Area around facilities looked a bit untidy. If there is ever a shortage of aluminium, then this should be the first port of call.
The only annoyance we had were a group of middle aged adults (with there kids) who thought that they could play the guitar and harmonic. Next time you visit this site, go and play under the waterfalls in Gordale Scar and let everyone enjoy the site. Will visit again and get some more walking done.

We've visited here dozens of times, and always enjoy our stay. The site is an old sheep farm. Malcolm turned to camping when it was dearer to have the sheep sheared than all the wool was worth, and I bet he's never looked back. He still has a few sheep on the land, keep the grass down and he personally picks up all the droppings by hand. The sheep don't bother anyone. This is really a back to basics camp site, toilet block, pot washing room and 1 shower. No camp shop! The nearest shop is about 7 miles away in Gargrave. So make sure you have all your provisions. There are 2 pubs in Malham village and a couple of cafes.

The walking in the area is marvellous, with numerous places to visit. Not forgetting the magnificent GORDALE SCAR. If you haven't been to see it then get in your car and go NOW!
