Two adults, two kids (aged 14 & 11) plus dog, Vango EOS 550xl tent.

Wow! The location! This site has been on my wishlist before I'd even thought about buying a tent. If there was one word used to describe Gordale Scar it would be stunning.

The 'site' is on the grass on the lead up to Gordale Scar, a few minutes walk from Janet's Foss, however it is about as basic as camping gets with loos, shower and washing up facilities. No set pitches; take your pick of wherever you fancy.

Okay, so the facilities are not the best in the world, but, I coped and they were not as bad as I'd feared. On saying that, we were the only campers other than a campervan on site so I could imagine they have the potential to be a different story during busy months. Two toilets and three sinks in ladies, same again in gents, plus a washing up area with a shower to use. Yes, there is lots of stuff. everywhere. But that is only once you're through the gate leading to the ladies, gents, washing up area & shower; we couldn't see this 'stuff' from anywhere near where we were pitched. Plus, did I mention the location?! There looked to be a couple of EHU points close to the farm house & facilities, but we didn't use it so can't comment.

Lots of places to walk/visit in the surrounding area. We didn't use our car from when we arrived until we left. Lovely walk to Malham Cove, Tarn, village, round to Janet's Foss then back up to Gordale Scar.

Lots of sheep on site so you might want to keep that in mind if you have a dog.

Paid £17/night for 2 adults, 2 kids, dog, car & tent; you're definitely paying for the location, not the facilities!

Will definitely return.

The site is a a mile down a single track road with passing places, which has a 17% hill at the end which is fine on way in, however on the way out could be a major challenge for some units, especially if you have a front wheel drive and a heavy van! I didn't have a problem, but only because the road was dry when we left, and I didn't meet anything on the hill to stop me on way up.

The charge for 1 night here was £14, but on handing over £15 was told he had no change so. That'll be £15 then eh? Asked if hook included was told he was having trouble with it so no. I later noticed 3 plastic bottles lying on the ground. I found these to be no more than an extension cable split into 2 fly leads! The hook up sockets on the end when inside 2litre pop bottles with the cable through the neck and the bottom cut off! Talk about DIY, I would definitely say DIY Dont touch.

All the previous reviews are accurate regarding facilities, but then this site is about location, this is stunning.

I like this site although facilities could do with an overhaul. The coin machine (10p) which runs the solitary shower on the site is an antique. The site is situated at the entrance to Goredale Scar, a wonderful location and each day you see dozens of people heading up the path that cuts through the site. There's a lovely and relatively easy walk into Malham via Janets Foss where there are several places to get fed and fuelled. Also just outside the site is a chuck wagon which is there most days where a quick snack and brew can be obtained for those who prefer to travel light.

The only downer for me was the colour of the `drinking water` that come out of the tap. If this kinda thing bothers you take your own.

This place is one of my favourites! Fantastic views, great walks, and not far from home. Its perfect for a quick break but very basic. And of course, for anyone who's not been there before, it is run by an absolute nutter!, a nice one, but be prepared for an interesting conversation before you pitch up.

The toilet block is fit only for what its designed for and surrounding it you'll find years of hoarding old camping equipment and bbq's. As long as you can see past those first impressions its a great site for all.

Picturesque, on a stream which is perfect for the kids to lark around in and close to Gordale Scar waterfall, Janet's Foss and Malham village if that's what you're after.

Stayed here for 2 nights and would not stay longer. The setting itself is beautiful and a fantastic base for lots of walks in the area. However the facilities were filthy. 1 shower and toilets with bins overflowing. We thought it was late when the owner let someone on site at 10 but then someone else arrived at 11 and started to put a large tent up. By the time they'd finished it was gone 12. With a busy day ahead for most people there were a few complaints. Wont be going back there in a hurry

Six of us stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our friend's birthday and do some mountain biking. Arrived mid-afternoon on the Friday and virtually had the field to ourselves (the previous couple of weeks had been very wet) but by the evening there were a lot more people and by the Saturday night it was very much busier.

Site is a spectacular location, and there is plenty of mountain biking in the area, although the first hill starts about a yard outside the campsite!

20 minute walk to Malham where there are 2 pubs, one a bit more upmarket than the other but both welcoming and did good food and beer. There is a also a great cafe in Malham (The Old Barn) which does a good breakfast including a gluten free menu.

The facilities at the campsite are what you would expect for the price, and in fact the shower turned out to be better than expected -powerful and hot, and 10p was sufficient time to shower properly. We used the shower at about 4pm after our bike riding so there was no queue but I suspect it could be busy in high season.

There is a lot of 'stuff' piled up around the toilet block but it was quite tidy, and adds to the character of the place.

We would certainly visit here again.

Have just got back from a one night stay at Gordale Scar. As previously mentioned, the views and surrounding area are beautiful. The site looks out onto Gordale Scar and the appeal is the element of 'wilderness' camping.

The campsite is basic at best. Whilst the camping field is clear of rubbish, the entrance, toilets and shower room more closely resemble Steptoes yard.

There was hot water in the washing room for washing your dishes, but this room also contains the only shower on site. The drinking water was a yellow colour and we bought bottle water instead.

The cost was £4 per tent, £4 per adult, £3 per car and £1. 50 per child. It is a very popular site for the views and for one night it was fine, but I wouldn't stay for any longer than that.

Super campsite, great location with the stream running through the grounds. Toilet blocks were fine for our short 17 hour stay, hot water and toilet paper available! Unsure of shower facilities as these were not used.

Malcolm the owner was happy to let us stay with our two dogs and he did not bombard us with any rules, very relaxing!

Two pubs in Malham are a 25 min walk away and both welcome walkers and dogs.

The short stay cost £13 for two small tents, two people and one car.

I would choose this campsite again and plan to return in August

Small campsite just off route of a 6. 5 mile circular trek I wanted to do. We only needed a site for one night and wouldn't be cooking or washing up at all. Worked out really good for us. Gordale scar itself is as worth a visit of malham cove and the campsite is basically there.

Drove in, pitched up. Its now £4 per person. £3 for car and after some discussion about what sized tent it was. Was £4 for tent.

Took off around lunchtime for our adventure. Stopped at. The lister for a pint en route. Back to the site for an hour took. Good look at the scar then back to the lister for some German beer and good food. Realised they do a fairly pricey breakfast of £4, 95 for a pot of tea and a buttie so after a good nights sleep back there for breakfast to start the next day.

Great campsite if you don't really need any facilities, because I loved it. However I imagine if I'd needed a proper wash and to do some washing up I may have hated it as the facilities are unclean in my opinion and inadequate when compared with most campsites in 2012.

It's the location that you are paying for when you stay at this campsite. Yes the toilets and showers are basic and full of spiders - much to my daughters consternation, and there seems to be stuff all over in a 'it'll come in useful at some point' kind of way, but when you are sitting with a beer in the evening or wake up in the morning you realise why you are there.

The small river / stream that runs through the campsite is great for the kids, and there's a great walk that follows the river upstream if you like a bit of scrambling.

Plenty of room for tents etc, but you may have to search around for a less swampy patch if you want to be down by the river.

Malham is only a 20 minutes walk away to the pubs etc, though the road can be quite narrow in some places if two cars are passing, so take care with kids.

Not a campsite for the Glampers, but cheap and cheerful in a fantastic location.
