The owner of this campsite is pathologically unable to throw anything away, there are piles of all kinds of junk, even in the washrooms the bins are overflowing with rubbish. This is why the site doesn't get a mention in many camping guides which is a pity because the location is beautiful.

There is a shallow brook running through the soft grass site, we pitched our tent right next to it, the sound of running water could be heard all through the night!

Gordale scar is just round the corner. This part of Yorkshire has many rugged geological formations, so proper walking boots would make life a lot easier.

The facilities are basic, a hot shower and a sink, I don't remember anything else.

There are a couple of pubs in the nearby village. The road leading to site is narrow, so could be a problem when towing a caravan.

2 night visit staying Tuesday and Wednesday night in the last week of June 2011.

First time camping in 25 years so wanted to start off slow and simple.

Stunning location, camped on the island across the stream accessed by a narrow foot bridge. Had good weather but ground was not hard due to previous rain and pegs went in easily holding firm in strong breeze.

Barbecues are allowed but not if the heat is in contact with the ground so be sure to get hold of the reinforced disposable BBQ trays to put under your own disposable BBQ. These can be taken from and put back in the wheel barrow outside the toilet block

A peaceful setting but we picked a time when children doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards were passing through 1 night at a time. If its peace you are after you should check first to see if any will be arriving during your visit.

The day we left 50 more were due. They seemed to camp nearer the entrance and areas were sometimes reserved. Moving further in towards the scar would have been more peaceful. The stream was a good source of adventure for the younger children (and not so young) It was not too deep and suitable for paddling during our visit.

We found the toilets to be adequate, had a look in the shower and didn't much fancy using it, had we stayed longer I'm sure we would have used it at 10p for 2. 5 mins.

The drinking water is discoloured but we had brought our own drinking water so never tested it for taste or effect.

We used 2 tents a Gelert Cirrus 6 (pictures on tent review page shows a bit of the campsite and scenery) and a Hi Gear Ion 3 for two sixteen year olds.

Cost of this per night in June 2011

4 people at £3/night each

6 man tent £3/night

2/3 man tent £3/night

Car £2/night

Total £20. 00/night.

There was plenty of walking to be had in this area which is littered with beautiful scenery.

In malham (1 mile from Campsite) we had breakfast one morning in the Old Barn cafe close to the visitor centre - friendly staff and good food at a reasonable cost. In the evening we ate at the Lister Arms Hotel again nice food at a reasonable cost. We did check out the Buck Inn for food but found the cost too high for us.

We had a pleasant time and I would visit this site again.

I found this campsite by chance as I used to visit this area in my youth. It was idyllic and I left my real world behind for a couple of days. My dog loved it too.

The site is right in the gorge of the Gordale Scar reservoir and has stream running through and sheep roaming. Entrance is right on the main road which is a very narrow road with passing places - as you would find in the rural Dales, but you can see the site when reaching the brow of the hill.

You can paddle in the stream, scale the hills and venture around to your hearts content. One camping couple even washed basic items in the stream - very 'back to nature'.

The site owner, Malcolm, keeps the site very clean and usual camping rules apply, but he is very helpful indeed - lending equipment and offered to assist me with my awning on my motor home. The facilities are basic compared to some other sites, but they were adequate, functional and apt for my needs.

The prices are very reasonable. I've been to sites with tiled/heated shower rooms with all mod cons, but this was fine for my needs. If you want a site with luxury facilities and pay luxury prices, then go elsewhere and you won't need to expect more and criticise this site.

I have read comments about Malcolm's recycling habit - great! Not a problem for me, we all should do this, but come out of cities to countryside for holidays and take are disposable consumerism with us! If you need anything, please ask him and I am sure he may have it to borrow or rent!

I had a lovely 'time out' in my camper and will be going back for definite. Thank you Malcolm and hope to see you soon.

As most of the others have said, an amazing site for sheer beauty. The only downside (if there could be a downside) is, if you're looking for peace & quiet there just maybe the possibility of schoolchildren visits. I went during the week and on both days they arrived. Luckily I could move my camper further up the field, (they seem to go for the first patch just inside the gate).

Also, if raining, the ground can be very muddy and on moving the first day I struggled to get off the grass. No prior warning from the owner.

A bit remiss methought! Only two hook-ups. However, when I got away from 'the rabble' it was heaven. I won't tell you where I pitched just in case you're on it when next I go.

We stayed for one night on June 6th 2011. Initial impressions are a little odd because, as mentioned in other reviews the owner seems to recycle everything so as you go through the courtyard you see lots of items from used disposable bbq's to empty old gas canisters.

However, once you get onto the actual site the beauty of the location is amazing. We managed to snag the pitch directly in front of the babbling river in front of the big hill with the sheep on. We walked down to the end to see the actual 'scar' which is also very impressive.

We took lots of photos and spent a lovely night to the sound of the river and baahs from the sheep. I actually used the shower twice which costs 10p and you get about 2 and a half minutes.

A slightly unorthodox setup but plenty of pressure and lovely hot water so can't complain. It's worth a visit if only for 1 night as a no frills experience with beautiful scenery.

Oh and it's worth popping around the corner to see Janet's Foss waterfall which is very pretty and the dogs loved swimming in it!

Stayed from 10th until 12th, what a lovely site, perfect setting, basic facilities but clean and warm, what more could you expect from a campsite on a farm,

Malcolm the owner is a nice guy who re-cycles everything so do your bit and place your waste in the correct area.

Gordale scar is breathtaking and it even had a couch potato like me going for a walk to explore it, my better half even walked the steep hill at the side while I stayed outside the tent guarding the beer as I watched her perilous accent lol,

Don't change anything about your campsite malcolm its as near to perfection as it gets

I have camped here on a number of occasions and I love this campsite because of it's location and the views are stunning, but the facilities are not too good, but if you are only staying for one night or weekend it's not a problem.

I don't think the shower has ever been cleaned so I would suggest you wear flip flops if you want a shower!

The owners don't bother you with lots of rules and leave you to it, which is nice, if it is quiet you can camp where ever you like.

I would recommend camping here for the views & location but if you expect 5* facilities you will be disappointed, so if you don't mind roughing it this is the place for you.

Just went for a night, we were in the motorhome, just the two of us,

The entrance needs a good tidy up and the site was fairly busy but the farmer did try and locate a level area for us.

The views were fantastic, but there was a bit of noise and two groups were playing football, also some people were letting their dogs roam lose between the tents,

When I went to the gents there was some mess in there,

It is a site to go to just the once so we wont be back, cost £3 per person and £4 for the van.

Its a must visit site. Location is perfect and views are breath taking. Great walking area.Loads of hot water for pot washing, shower cost 10p. Take your flips flops if you not keen on bare cement. Its a education looking at all the piles of odd items that the owner as about the yard and in the loos. Went to Buck Inn in Malham for a meal, food ok but bit over priced for what we got, real ale was keeped well. Road down to site is quite narrow but well worth the drive. Did rain while we were there and site drained well.

Great camp site - views stunning.Local area is very nice and there are good nearby attractions for kids.

Stream runs through the site which is very shallow and safe for kids but great for keeping them occupied.

Price wise it's good value for money.

Rolling hillsides as views and slate shingle rocks make for the perfect setting.

Owner keeps himself to himself but pleasant. Not the most overwhelming welcome but you don't go away to chat to the owner!.Facilities are basic but clean and ample.Went for three nights and the stay was lovely - special little place!
