Second year in a row for us at this site. Fantastic all round. Owner is very friendly, welcoming and informative. Showers and toilets were clean and tidy. Camped in a big group, lovely to site around camp fire in an evening. Shame site is not open for longer, will go back next year. If my memory serves me correctly the access road has improved 100% from last year. 10 out of 10 for this camp site

Wow! What a fantastic site. Seven huge fields with masses of space no matter how many people are around. Peter the site owner is a really nice guy, very laid back. There are very few rules and without any "shed-draggers" on site, the canvas brigade can get down to some back to basics camping. The facilities are quite basic but clean and kept in good working order. Toilets are sheds with proper flushing wc or "hole-in-the-ground" up in the top fields. The showers are solar powered and there was always plenty of hot water. Kids can play on the haystacks provided which were fun, or they can walk the farmer's dogs which proved a popular pastime! There is a fantastic beach (shingle) which you can reach via a steep path. Nightlife was the main attraction for us: This meant lighting the camp fire, eating dinner, drinking lots of wine, toasting marshmallows and singing with the kids until the fire was just embers. We'd lay under the black sky watching shooting stars before retiring to bed! If you want, amusement arcades, dodgems, nightclubs and cheesey entertainment then don't come here. But, if you want to get away from it all without a tourer in sight, then book up now for next August and enjoy!

Excellent campsite if you like basic no rules camping. The location is beautiful! Plenty of space and can camp where you want; no restrictions on group size, time of arrival, departure etc. Shop sells a variety of organic produce which is excellent and there is a Coop and Spar shop a short drive away. Being able to have a campfire was excellent and you are allowed to collect wood from all around the campsite. The only downside is the track in and out of the site; one car wide with not many places to pass; can get a bit hairy when its been raining and its slippery and several cars are trying to get through.

We arrived at Eweleaze late on Thursday afternoon. We've never taken the children camping before, so it was a bit of a test. Aged 2 and 3 we thought maybe it would be a mistake. But we all loved it. There was so much space they were running around without disturbing anyone. It was lovely to sit around a BBQ in the evening and see the camp fires dotted around the land-scape. The toilet facilities were very basic, but adequate and the solar showers were always hot. Also the bacon from the shop is amazing. We stayed till Sunday and although more people came at the weekend there was still masses of space.
Will definitely go again.

Great Site. Loved the campfires, and the children loved playing on the haystacks. They made loads of friends, which meant we only really saw them when it was time to eat or drink, leaving us plenty of time to relax. I was dreading the showers, having heard how basic they were, but they were marvelous, especially after dark when is was a bit like being in a log cabin. Never caught any fish, but it was fun trying. The meat from the farm shop was excellent. Planning to go back this weekend. Has anyone been this year? Any changes? Is the access track still as bad, as we were wondering if we needed to take a 4x4 this time! Thanks, Dave

Fantastic site! Camped in the top field with OH and 5 year old son, with great views of the sea and Portland. Private beach [pebbled] was 5 minutes walk. Facilities clean and no queues. Shop selling excellent organic meats. Nice people as neighbours and woodpile with free wood for fires. Only drawback [for some] might be the track up to the top field - scrapes the bottom of your car if youare overloaded! I wish this site was open for longer.

This was my first camping experience and we couldn't have picked a better campsite. The location was fantastic and the flexibility this site has makes the place even better. On arriving there are no restrictions as to where you pitch your tent, there are many fields to choose from, all of which have stunning views of the coast. We were not even limited on the amount of space we had so the distance between neighbouring tents can be as much or as little as you want. It was great that the owners allow everyone to have campfires, they do supply free wood although we didn't bother with this as it was very limited and twiggy. Instead we decided to buy some packs of wood at the on site shop and there were very reasonably priced. The private beach is pebbly but the water was lovely and clear and lots of people went swimming in this bay.I only braved a paddle! The facilities were excellent standard and whilst we were there they were installing some new showers which were great. The toilets were kept clean and the inside power shower excellent. The only criticism I would have about this site in the road leading into the farm. It is EXTREMELY steep and uneven and if you meet someone coming the other way you are screwed! As we found out a number of times. If you have a small car I wouldn't load it too high with camping equipment as you may just find you'll never get out of the campsite again. My boyfriends KA only just made it out, but the clutch took some severe hammering! We are hoping to return this August and hopefully the owners will have done some work to the road by now. I would give this site 8/10

Visited Eweleaze for the first time last year, attraction was being able to light a campfire. The site is great, not too crowded, plenty of space to pitch your tent and Peter who runs the site is very friendly and helpful. We will be going back this year for a week, shame site is not open longer. This site is what camping should be, peaceful, beautiful scenery and great walks and finishing your day sat by a fire with a mug of tea - bliss. There should be more sites like this

August 2005 Our first time at Eweleaze and only our second time camping. My husband being the reluctant one! We all had a fantastic time. Arrived Sat of Bank Hol weekend for 4 nights and site very busy but still did not feel crowded as so much space. Did a bit of a double take with the loos.., they were rather full come the end of our stay but we coped and had a laugh about it. Really enjoyed the campfires and the freedom. Stunning views from top field and the beach and water fantastic. We have 2 dogs and 2 children and it was great that they did not have to be tethered......(dogs I mean!) Would want to go again for sure.... hope hubby agrees.....

August 2005 Just returned from our first camping trip in 20 years, and decided to try Eweleaze. Access via a very bumpy track (approx 1/2 mile), but managed it ok every day for a whole week in a 7 seater. When we got there (20/08) fairly busy, but found a space in the top field (overlooking the sea - great view) without a problem. The field emptied out during the week, but then became very crowded (and noisy) on the Friday before the Bank Holiday, but still more space than "organised" sites. Farmer was very helpful (always had enough time to help). Top field was glorious in the sunshine, but exposed when the winds & rain came (a couple of tents collapsed & broke poles). Unfortunately, the bottom fields got very muddy in the rain (although sheltered from the winds), and you couldn't move your car. There are "basic" toilets in most fields (hole in ground with wood around it), and proper toilets in the two bottom fields (about a five minute walk from nearest top field). There are six solar showers by reception, but avoid using them in the early part of the day, as they take a fair amount of sun to warm up (as I found out at 09:00 in the morning...ouch!). There are two gas heated showers in the sheltered bottom field, but be prepared to queue at popular times. Toliets & showers were always clean. Was looking forward to cooking some organic burgers & steak, but, alas, none were available all week, as they were having supply problems (maybe next year). Camp fires are permitted on this site, and it was great to have one each evening. The Farmer sells bags of firewood, and there is plenty of kindling around at the sides of the tracks between top & bottom fields. Will definitely come back next year (although will try to avoid Bank Holiday weekend).
