Was our first time camping and was a great experience.
Eweleaze has 5 camping fields with 2 right next to the sea. On our arrival the receptionist was really helpful, We were allowed to pitch where we wanted and there was plently of space.
Was very impressed with the toilets which were clean and didn't smell and there were plenty of them about.
Rules have been changes this year so music couldn't be played late at night, We were in the main beach field and there was no noise at all-apart from the sea!
Were allowed to have our campfires where we wanted next to our tents, was great fun and made a really great atmosphere. There is a huge stock of wood to help yourself to.
The site shop is good with all basics, they sell there own produce and the sausages come highy recommended! There is also a little pizza stall which is tasty but a bit pricey. There are a couple of supermarkets about a 5 minuite drive from Eweleaze which are great for stocking up on bits not in the site shop.
There is a great walk into Weymouth along the beach side which is a must.
All in all a great trip, even the rain didn't ruin it!
Will definitely be back next year.

What an amazing place! Fantastic location, a minute from the beach; clean, plentiful, well-maintained and environmentally friendly facilities; really good on-site farm-shop & pizza-oven; enough space to feel isolated but close enough to hear voices drifting in the breeze and watch the other camp-fires flickering at night; free fire-wood located around the site - you just need to go forage for it! If you enjoy the stars at night, the sound of silence and endlessly big water-colour skies, then this is the place for you. Came home feeling totally relaxed; re-charged and ready for more.

Stayed on a couple of weekends - superb! The atmosphere was in general excellent ( I didn't mind the music but can understand those that do) and the weather was so good - laid back. I thought the facilities were excellent given this is an Eco site (I've stayed in far worse). Looking forward to Aug 2008.
Perhaps as suggested by others a ground rule (or at the most two) wouldn't go amiss.

We stayed here for the August bank holiday. It is an amazing location right by the coast with superb views.
We visited with friends and had plenty of space to set up camp. Yes, there is noise from other campers but I felt that this added to the festival atmosphere. We have 2 small children under 3 years old - they were fine and slept. My advice would be to consume lots of booze and sleep through it( it worked for me).
Solar showers are fine and reasonably warm. The toilets(a grand term for a ditch covered with a tent) were organic (!) but that fits in with the whole ethos of the place. There is a garden centre down the road with very nice toilets which I can recommend.
I towed my trailer tent out fine - although it may have been difficult if it was wet.
If you want to get away from commercial sites this is the place. We all enjoyed it and would/will go back.

This is my 3rd time at this campsite and I love it. This year it had a shop and a little pizza place, also they will charge up your mobile (if you have a charger) for a small cost. I never had a problem with the queue's for the shower, and the noise. We were in the quiet field, heard the top field but not overly loud - and there was a wedding! You can also exhange your icepacks for 20p a pack, we found that really worth the money, as the freezer was full most of the time. Our child really loved the farm dogs and were constantly walking them. Peter the owner is very laid back - and the site wasn't too busy ( we went on 10th Aug) We will be back next year

We spent the bank holiday here, and came away with mixed feelings. Unbeatable location, with the beach a few minutes walk away. Children loved the haystacks, the giant plastic drums, and the campfires. I reckon there were over five hundred people camping, and that put the facilities under a bit of pressure. But you can't complain about the queues for the toilets if you're not prepared to use the earth ones. Outdoor solar showers are fine if you're lucky with the weather (which we were), - could be a bit challenging otherwise. I do concede a few more sinks for washing-up wouldn't go amiss. Items that ran out due to high demand, (milk, logs, straw bales), were magically restocked by the next morning.
But - and it's a big But - what nearly wrecked it for us was the selfishness of a few bozos. I don't know about you, but I don't go to this kind of campsite to listen to other people's car stereos, especially late into the night. Even choosing the 'quiet field' doesn't save you, as what constitutes 'quiet' is not defined by the owners, and left to be interpreted according to whim. And besides which, the 'quiet field' is surrounded on three sides by other fields not similarly designated, so watch out if you're downwind of one. You might as well have the speakers in your tent (and earplugs don't keep out the bass). Those who had the temerity to complain directly (and there were plenty) were treated to jeers and abuse.
This is an issue which really needs addressing, otherwise the families will disappear, leaving seven fields full of drunken campers, each one turning their music up louder and louder to hear it above that of their neighours.
On a brighter note, I cannot recommend the chocolate brownies in the shop too highly.

Just spent 3 nights at this wonderful site. Its everything I like about camping. No marked out pitches, plenty of space and open air as well as letting you have camp fires. One drawback for our stay was the wind, huge gusts keeping you awake at night but that's British weather for you. We camped up the beach & cliff which only had the "hole-in the-ground" toilets but they were fine. I agree with previous comments that if it were wet the tracks could be quite tricky in the car. We did have problems on our last night when several families arrived with their sound system playing to the wee hours. Complaints were made to the owners who did say they would put in new rules for next year. In summary, a great site for true campers who love the outdoors - they should open up for longer.

A group of us consisting of 5 adults and 4 children in 3 tents stayed here over the August BH weekend. My first reaction on arrival to the site was 'whoa - what an AMAZING view!. THE best feature of the campsite is its location overlooking Weymouth Bay - its gorgeous. Overall the campsite was pretty good, there was plenty of space for all the campers and being able to have an open campfire really made it a great experience. I guess if you wanted to perhaps be a bit critical it would be about the facilities. There were only 4 flushable toilets but lots of basic tent/hole in the ground ones. The flushable loos always had plenty of toilet roll and were clean. The basic ones weren't nearly as awful as I imagined and served their purpose. There is a shop on site and a pizza bar.
There were loads old twiggy sticks around to help get the fires started and you can always buy logs there at £2.50 a bag. There are some solar powered showers which I didn't use and a couple of gas powered showers. The queues for both seemed horrendously long and I was told that the water never gets hot in the SP ones, just warm. It's about a 2 mile walk into Weymouth following the coastal path (you can drive but I would suggest using the P & R as parking is limited in Weymouth itself). We went mackeral fishing from the harbour - highly recommended - caught about 30 or so mackeral which the kids sold to other campers when we got back and made a bit of money. Fresh mackeral is GORGEOUS when barbequed! So overall a highly recommended site!

First visit to this site with two kids, setting is beautiful and lots of fields to camp in. We agree with most other reviews of this site. The weekend we arrived we had terrible weather and this did make access around the campsite very bad - our car turned brown! Also the road in and out of the site can be a bit mad as it is single track with passing places. Large vehicles above the gate height are meant to wait at the top and phone for the gate to be opened for them, but not all do and this can lead to a few jams.! The site shop has meat, veg, milk and marshmallows and is very nice but does tend to run out of stuff. The pizzas made on site are lovely but again ingredients for them can some times run out too! Two chip shops nearby to campsite but you would need to drive to them!
The field we stayed in had two good showers that were always hot and four toilets which were kept nice and clean. There were queues for these most of the time though during the day, there were other 'tent toilets' too but most people waited for the above ones! The Beach is good and the kids enjoyed playing on it. The surrounding area has plenty of places to visit and lots for kids. You can pitch where you like but as there are no marked pitches you can get people pitched quite close to you which can be quite noisy. We too were unfortunate to hear one group of people playing loud music late into the night and being abusive to anyone who asked them to turn it down - it only takes a few here to spoil it for many. Perhaps a few ground rules given when booking in would help here. Having a real campfire was great and the area is very pretty, some lovely sunsets, real camping.

On a positive note, the site has beautiful views and there is a lot of space to pitch without being too close to other tents. Fires are allowed anywhere which creates a nice atmosphere at night. There are downsides however. There are only 4 flushing toilets in the first field and 2 in another field. The other 'toilets' were holes in the ground covered by a tent. There were solar powered showers which were lukewarm if you were lucky! There were only 2 gas powered showers, which were hot, for the whole site. The week we camped the site was very busy. There were nowhere near enough toilets or showers. A local resident said that a lot more fields had been opened up for camping than in previous years. It seemed that the owner was more concerned in getting a lot of campers in than in providing facilities for them. The calor gas showers and flushing toilets were only in wooden sheds so it would not have been beyond the realms of possibility to have put some in the other camping fields, so ensuring that anyone camping did not have a 15 minute walk to the toilet.
Another thing to be aware of is that the site is very steep. The week we were there the weather was very wet. The road leading to the campsite is very steep and narrow. It was not easy to negotiate with a fully laden family car and a trailer. It is better suited to 4 wheel drives. The camping fields are also steep and many cars had problems getting out when we were there. There is a lot of mud to drive through and nothing seemed to be done to prevent it such as putting down gravel. This is a very basic site, which while it has lovely views and campfires, it is hard to find a level pitch and there is a long muddy walk to the toilet!
