Just returned from a five night stay at the campsite and can agree with some of the other reviews that the campsite is a lovely and well managed site where the owners are very friendly and helpful. The only problem was the limited shower facilities that were not a problem during the weekdays of our visit but as the site filled up then one shower in the gents is not enough. Also take a torch as walking to the shower block involves negotiating some steps that are not illuminated in the dark. Otherwise a lovely site and would go back.

This was our first visit to shallow grange with our 2 year old little boy and our seven week old little girl but it definitely wont be the last, we had a great time. We stayed here for Friday and Saturday night and the weather was really bad it rained all the time we were their but that didn't stop us having a nice relaxed short break. My little boy loved this site as he could see sheep and cows through every window of the caravan and the chickens came up to the door, it was a very relaxed site and as it was a working farm my little boy loved to get his wellies and rain coat on and go see all the animals. They have free range chickens which were great as my little boy loved to see them walking around the site. Toilets and showers were very clean and the site was well maintained and clean. you can get fresh milk and free range eggs from the farm. Buxton is only a short drive away. We had a lovely time and will be going back. Great family site

We have just come back from a weekend on this site. It was lovely even though it rained Friday and Saturday we still enjoyed staying here. We got up to feed the sheep and chickens on Saturday and Sunday, even though we did not have any children with us, Edward still let us get involved. The facilities were alright but on a busy weekend I would think there may be a wait for a shower. The view in the mornings were spectacular and if the weather would of been nicer we would have taken Edward up on his offer of loaning a map and gone walking. Maybe we will next time as we will definitely be staying here again soon.

Surely July shouldn't be this wet! Wow - what a site. If anyone can name a site where the owner not only has route quides for walks from your pitch, but also lends you a torch so the kids can explore a cave part way round, please let me know where it is! We had our 12 man tent on a electric pitch, and there was plenty of room to share. I was not too sure about 'paying' for your electric as used, but there was £1.95 left on the meter and we only used about 45p a day. Considering we had a large travel fridge it was great value. OK, yes, the toilet/shower block could do with being twice the size, but for a weekend pitch is was fine. Even if you are only staying a couple of nights the sheep feeding at 10.00 is well worth it - the kids thought it was great. 10 out of 10 - we will be back for longer!

This was our second visit to this site with our boys who are 12 and 8. They really enjoy feeding the chickens and helping Edward feed the sheep. Edward is brilliant with the children who learn a lot about farming from him. The boys did not want to leave (again). This time we brought along another family who had never camped before and, despite the cold, wet weather they really enjoyed it and we've already planned our next joint camping adventure! This is a lovely, quiet, family site that is a working farm. It is not an "all singing, all dancing" site so don't expect entertainment to be laid on! It is well placed for visiting many tourist attractions - Buxton, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Dovedale, Hope, Castleton etc. All well within driving distance. There are nice walks around the site too. Facilities are as described in previous reviews - clean and adequate if site not too busy but I can imagine queues for showers at busy times. Most pubs in the area cater for children. We went to the Church Inn in Chelmorton (2 miles away) and The Bull I th' Thorn on A515 - had good meals in both. We would definitely visit this site again.

We have just returned from a two night trip at Shallow Grange. I agree with the previous reviews, the owners of the site were very friendly and made you feel at home right away. The toilet and washing facilities were limited-we were warned when we booked that there may be queues over the bank hol but we didn't find this a problem. Disappointing that the pub was a bit of a trek away. Would be very pleasant 20 min walk on a summers day but with the weather being so bad we could have done with somewhere warm to shelter around the corner. Other than that we had an excellent time and would thoroughly recommend the site to couples/families alike.

Tried this campsite for first time over bank holiday weekend as usual campsite we used was full. Had read reviews and had felt confident that we would be staying at a reasonably quiet and well maintained campsite. Upon arrival we were surprised to find that the size of the campsite is somewhat more than the ' 20 caravan pitches and small tent field' as described on their website. Admittedly it was a bank holiday but we counted over 80 pitches in use, with every space seemingly being used, in fact the tent next to our pitch was actually in contact with our tent, so much for the 6 metre rule !. The biggest disappointment came when going to use the facilities, as mentioned in previous reviews only 1 shower and 2 cubicles in the gents and not much better in the ladies, this is obviously not suitable for the number of people staying at the site, as could be seen by the never ending queues of people waiting to use the shower. All this is a shame as the site is clean and in a good position for exploring the peaks with some good walks from the campsite. This site may well be worth visiting mid-week or off season but due to the lack of facilities probably worth avoiding during busy periods.

Have just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend at this super site. We first visited two years ago when the owners Edward and Marilyn had only recently taken over. We received as warm a welcome this time as we did then. This weekend Edward invited visitors to watch while he bottle fed two new lambs .Our daughter (8) along with all the other kids was thrilled to bits when she was allowed to hold one for a short while. The Church Inn at Chelmorton, about two miles down the road, does a very nice Sunday lunch and there's a 24hr Tesco Express a few minutes away by car just outside Buxton. You can walk straight off the site into lovely countryside; maps are available for loan from reception. This is a quiet family site. A level grassed area is set aside for caravans/tents requiring EHU and there's an additional tent field which slopes a bit. There are two showers in the ladies, one in the gents. A pot washing and laundry room form part of the amenity block along with a well organised recycling bin area. The facilities are basic but clean and tidy, although it was evidently a problem keeping on top of things this weekend due to the number of visitors. We will definitely be going back though probably not on a Bank Holiday as we felt the facilities were overstretched.

Visited this site for the third time we are so impressed. Edward & Marilyn are so friendly The fields are really well drained and the facilities are great. Would definitely recommend as a nice quiet family site and will be going again. Only ten minutes drive to Buxton and Bakewell and various other tourist places.
