Shallow Grange Farm is in beautiful countryside near Buxton and the surrounding views are of rolling hills.
The site caters for caravans and tents and is on a working farm which at the time of our visit was busy with lambing. Ed who runs the farm with his wife Marilyn are a very hospitable couple and very proud of their farm and this is well justified as the farm and site were immaculate.
Ed visited the pitches to ensure everything was ok.
The site is family orientated and there was no problems with noise to disturb other campers.
The touring caravan field also takes tents so you can if you want use EHU. It was flat and quite well drained which was lucky as there had been heavy rain before our arrival.
The lower field is on more of a slope and was also was for tents, but no EHU but there was plenty of space to spread your pitch as this was a large field with room to spare.
The shower block was ok but I can imagine at bank holidays the facilities being slightly stretched for those who did not have their own shower / toilet (i.E. Tent dwellers as opposed to caravanners)
There was fishing and the attraction of the new born lambs which Ed was pleased to show the children. Also there are public footpaths through the farm that lead to open countryside and the owners provide routes for walks in the nearby area.
The local pub was a good walk or short drive called the Church Inn which we visited and had a decent bar meal.
I would return here without hesitation.

Owners very helpful, grass pitches with hook up level and spacious. Excellent walks from the site and also close by. Lots to see in Buxton just a few mins drive away. Shops and chippy also a short drive away. Kids were encouraged to feed the new lambs and chickens (nice touch) mens shower block only had one shower, while tidy was starting to look a bit tired. Looks like there are extra portable showers for busy times. We will go there again far too much to see in a weekend, we would recommend this site based on our visit.

Just returned from our first visit to this campsite, and will be returning as soon as possible. We loved it. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. The site itself is nice and clean with lovely views. The toilet and shower blocks are kept very clean, and there's always hot water. Lots of hot water for washing pots too. We had no problem with anything, no excess noise, nothing. Loved watching the lambs be fed, and our son Alex loved being whizzed round the field on Ed's quad bike. Buxton just down the road and Ashbourne and Matlock within easy reach. All in all a brilliant campsite and cant wait to go back. See you soon, without a doubt.

Just got back from Shallow Grange. 1st time here and would return again. Nice set up and some great walking and fishing.
Stayed for a long weekend did find that when busy not enough showers for the ladies and the water was cold at times, but they were clean and tidy.
Not too far away from Buxton which has supermarkets there. Great local pub, food great and not too far away.
Overall nice place but needs some more showers.
Will return again maybe the sun will shine then!
Was very wet but that can not be helped.

Beautiful site on arrival! Clean extremely well presented and organised. The owners are lovely people - everyone involved works hard to keep this site like this. There must have been 30 to 40 kids on site. Very well behaved no early morning noise - I actually over slept it was that quiet.
Some one made previous comment on too many rules and regulations - it makes perfect sense to me not to let dogs loose with sheep, not to go into the owners property - not to wander round the closed off bits of the farm. Obviously some people need telling! If you use your common sense you will have a good time.
Go try it out for your selves, a lovely friendly welcome, not commercial just a good friendly atmosphere from quests and staff alike.
One comment made by a male member of our party about the showers - the water was not fast enough.2 showers per sex 3- 4 toilets each.
I'm sure with the work done on this site it won't be long before it is fine again
I will certainly go again.

Just come back from a very enjoyable stay at Shallow Grange. Would recommend it to anyone, really friendly owners, clean facilities and great views! Nice amount of space between caravans/tents. As had been a lot of rain prior to our arrival, cars had to be parked away from each pitch in a nearby field (to save the grass from being churned up). No problem as farmer assisted everyone with ferrying luggage etc in his buggy + trailer.
Cars only short distance away in any case. Pleased to comply with their 'green' policy of recycling all rubbish - separate bins for plastics, metal, paper, compostable and general refuse. Also policy of pre-paid cards for electric hook-up - so you only pay for what you use and less likely to be wasteful - £1 card lasted quite a long time with hairdryer/TV/radio etc.
Beautiful free range chickens wandering around - so please keep to policy of keeping dogs on a lead. Owner told me of irresponsible dog owner who ignored rule and their dog fatally injured several of his chickens - very upsetting for all concerned!
Lovely pubs nearby - would recommend The Black Grouse (10 mins drive but well worth it - food great! - also allowed well behaved dog too!)Also loved Bakewell with it's quaint shops and tearooms - great cream teas! Not so keen on Buxton as more 'high street' and commercialised.
We plan to return - maybe try B&B at Shallow Grange next time!

Have just returned after 3 wonderful nights here with friends. Edward and Marilyn are the nicest hosts ever, very helpful and apologetic about the weather!
The site was very full as it was bank holiday but none of us (8 in total) had to queue for showers once. The views are spectacular, the site is lovely - very simple but clean (if you discount the mud due to the rain) and tidy.
Great base for walking or just wandering about the villages nearby.
We are already planning our next visit.

This has been our second season with Ed and Marilyn and definitely wont be our last. Whilst we endured horrendous weather at the start of our holiday, the spectacular views more than made up for this. We had a very spacious pitch ( pitch 11) with electric hook up. Electric is supplied via a pre paid card. After a full week with the fridge, radio, hair dryer, electric toaster and various other electrical comforts, I was extremely surprised to find I'd only bought 2 £1 tickets. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer available and at only £1 a time was a godsend. The showers and toilets were always spotless and the hot water and showers were free of charge.
There is a pond on site for fishing and it is stuffed with fish, mainly small carp to 3lb and roach, rudd and bream to about a pound. Even my other half managed to catch one!
A previous review has mentioned signs situated around the site, this is due to the fact this is a working farm and standards are needed and rules must be followed for every bodies enjoyment, we certainly did not have a problem with this, and having seen two chickens ripped apart by dogs not on leads, can empathise with Ed the farmer and site owner. If you want a site in a beautiful location with peace and tranquillity then this is the site to be at. If you want a noisy site with a club house, purpose built play areas and a pool then I'm afraid you need to look elsewhere.

This was our second visit here, we had originally booked for the second week of our 2 week hols but our 1st week was ruined 3 days in, and so we phoned shallow grange and asked if we could come early, no problems.
We love this site, the owners are wonderful, the site and facilities are great.
They did warn us before we originally booked that they would be very busy over the bank holiday weekend and we were happy to accept this.
We had a wonderful 10 days, sometimes a field all to ourselves. The kids and dog could run free and we all loved it.
The weather was awful, windy, wet, and sometimes cold. I am affraid to say that because of the position of this site it gets the worst of the weather. We would travel into local towns and the weather was beautiful but when we got back to shallow grange it was wet and windy, every time. We know it is not the fault of the campsite but something to think about.
It was very wet towards the bank holiday weekend and the owners did everything they could to stop the fields from becoming a mud bath. The organisation was fantastic.
Anyway. Sorry Ed and Marilyn, there are not enough toilet/shower facilities to accommodate the number of people you had on site for the bank holiday. We heard a lot of moans about it. The lady in the tent next to us said that there were 6 people in front of her in the queue for the shower.
There are 2 showers,4 loos and 2 basins in the ladies. The gents had 1 shower in the main block and 2 in the portacabin.
As I said before it was or second visit and both times it has been disappointing because of the weather, if its windy then it is very windy on this site and so on.
We really have enjoyed our visits to Shallow Grange but will only return if weather is going to be fab and its not a busy time.

We stayed here late June with our 2 kids and some friends and their 3 kids. The tent field is large and surrounded by walls so there was a huge area in the middled for the children to play - however it is slightly sloping on top of a hill so pitching the tent in the wind and rain was entertaining!
The owners were really nice - Ed the farmer came round every morning to tell us when he was feeding the lambs, which the kids loved. One of the lambs was orphaned and our kids took a shine to her and called her Lucy (after our daughter) and Ed sprayed her name on her side! He even gave them a lift on his quad bike - fabulous!
The toilets and showers were clean with plenty of hot water, however, if the site was fully booked would imagine having to queue for showers. Washing up room was under cover with 2 sinks and drainers and plenty of hot water.
There are quite a few signs with 'site rules' on them but we didn't feel they were a problem, especially the one about the dry stone walls costing £50 per metre to repair if it was damaged in any way!
Drove to Bakewell and did a lovely circular walk to Ashford in the Water and had fabulous Sunday lunch at the Ashford Arms on the way home - recommended but do book!
We will definitely go back to Shallowgrange.
