We came upon this place by accident but it fitted us very well. The surroundings were beautiful, the owners very nice and flexible.
A little more wind because you are higher up is a fact but nothing too much.
We walked the public footpath according to the map on the back of the leaflet through Back Dale and Horseshoedale, very nice. We only took a wrong turn once we took the detour that wasn't on the map anymore.
We stayed for about a week, plenty to do and see in the surroundings and relaxing times in front of our tent with the nice views.
Certainly a place to visit again.

I've just returned from a week at Shallow Grange and cannot praise Marilyn and Ed highly enough for their wonderful site - and for making me feel really at home. It's clear that they and their colleagues work extremely hard to provide a great base to explore the Peak District whilst, at the same time, doing all that needs to be done day after day on their farm. I particularly valued ability to refreeze my cool blocks.
I'm surprised that some have commented about the distance to the facilities - that certainly wasn't a problem for me - and when you get there, they are excellent.
I was really lucky to have amazing weather - until the last day, that is - S*%'s Law (!). I shall certainly return.
Thank you Marilyn and Ed!

This campsite has lovely views and is a really handy location for Buxton and Bakewell area however this does mean that you do hear traffic from the 2 roads (one major road) and noise from the local quarries which appear to run through the night. The campsite had a clean shower room with plenty of facilities and a good sized washup room allowing 3 campers to washup at a time. The freezer was handy for food/ice blocks with a reasonable deposit for the key- there was also the use of a washing maching and tumble dryer in this room should you need to use it. Lots of pitches with the choice of EHU should you need it. The campsite was always quiet after 10pm as per their rules and you can keep your car on your pitch unless there is wet weather. Overall a great campsite.

There are great views from this site but the price you pay is that it is a very exposed site. If you are in a tent, make sure you use all your guy ropes - you have been warned - as it can get very very windy! We saw one man sleeping in his car the next morning as his tent had collapsed in the night!
The pitches are a good size and it is very peaceful but there is a long walk to the showers and loos from the tent field. They were kept clean by a slightly over-enthusiastic male cleaner who actually mopped around my feet whilst I was brushing my teeth in the ladies!
The owner is friendly but not very knowledgeable about the local area - for example, he did not know about the buses into Buxton - and there is not an information area for campers to share information or pick up leaflets etc. It is a short taxi ride to/from Buxton and the food and beer in the Cheshire Cheese pub which is owned by Titanic Brewery was fantastic.

Wow what a wonderful campsite! I'd spoken to Marilyn on the phone prior to going last minute on the Saturday to see if I needed to book but as we were 'post bank holiday madness' there was no need. Greeted by Ed on arrival and felt very welcomed, he explained where to camp and recommended the local pub (think it was about 1/2 hr away walking but we drove to it as went on the way back from Buxton on the Sunday afternoon). He told us all about the sheep and farming which we learnt a few things!
It has a large camping field and we opted for this rather than the electric hook up area. Was cheaper and much more room on the non EHU. You camp around outside next to the wall. The views are pretty amazing. Slight noise from planes and the main road but this did not bother us at all. The facilities were brilliant. Very clean showers and toilets very close to camping area. Lovely dishwashing area and was a laundry room (hire a key £5 refundable deposit) too but we did not use it. There is a electric point and mirror in there so you could use it for hair drying or charge phones if needed.
We were allowed to have a campfire (used our own bbq/pit) and bought a bag of wood from Ed which was reasonable at £7 as it was a massive bag with kindling and newspaper. This made the cool nights very cosy! The night sky was clear so had fab star gazing views!
We will definitely be returning next year, was gutted our trip was only 2 nights spare of the minute as we would have stayed longer. Thanks so much Ed and Marilyn for your hospitality at your fab farm!

Stayed here may bank holiday weekend, although the weather wasn't very good we had a great time, showers and toilets were kept very clean, tents were all around the edge so there was plenty of room for the children to play in the middle, the farmer was very friendly and gave a talk about the sheep and lambs and we were able to stroke and feed them. Not far from buxton, visited the church Inn at chelmorton and the bulls head at Monyash both served real ales which were first class, well worth a visit. We had all taken our bikes so we went on the Monsal Trail which is not far from the camp site and we rode into Bakewell.

We stayed here for Easter with some friends, the weather the week before had been torrential unending rain so the site was very soft under foot
( and wheel ) the owners were very welcoming and pitched anyone who didn't have a 4x4 with their own Land rover, the organisation was very good and demonstrated the professional attitude the owners have.
You can't help the weather but you can make the best of the situation which the owners did.
You have to purchase Meter tokens for the electric but they will refund any yo don't use.
The site was very well maintained, Toilet and shower blocks were clean and regularly checked.
Fortunately it was lovely while we were there and the site ( and everywhere else) soon dried up.
The Location is great for sight seeing and walks and pretty much anything else you could want, there are numerous shopping facilities in Buxton and various supermarkets nearby.
The site is rural and provides beautiful views
The various walking hiking and cycling trails are all nearby as are the Caverns ( Castleton ) and more scenery then you could wish for.
We shall return

Stayed for a four day break at the end of august. Weather was forecast to be a bit grim and we as the site is a little exposed we though we would be in trouble. This turned out to not be the case. We were pitched on the 'little field' with electric and it was surrounded by small trees so sheltered us from the wind. We were the only ones on the field as we arrived midweek. By the weekend it had filled up to capacity. The atmosphere was good everyone having a good time. The children became a little obsessed with playing a feeding the farmers pet lamb that was very tame and seemed to enjoy the attention. The showers were hot for the first day but then the water was cold, there was a problem with a valve on the boiler that the farmer swiftly attended to. It was lovely to stay on a real working farm with the farm walking round to talk to us all in his wellies. Now for the extras. The fire pit was way to much to rent at £5 per night then extra for the logs. That would have been £20 for our stay and then £4 for the logs each night. This was out of our price range. Been spoilt maybe be places that charge just for the logs. Overall a good clean quiet site. But wouldn't stay for longer especially at busy times as the pitches are too small

Just back from a two night stay here. We really enjoyed our experience, the views are lovely and with this being a working farm it's warming to hear all the farm animals whilst you relax. Had the chance to see the farmer feed a lamb which was nice. The toilet/shower block is great and the kitchen sink area was also nice and clean, although hot water did run out by the time we had to wash the breakfast time pots. Would recommend this site.

We visited Shallow Grange Farm on the Bank Holiday Weekend in May. From the very start we had a great impression. The owners were friendly, helpful and very professional.
The camp site was clean, the shower and toilets good and kept clean.
We hired a key for the freezer and on 2 nights hired a wood burning fire which was fantastic!
We were a family of 2 adults and 4 children, the pitch with EHU was good and the other families around us were really friendly.
An excellent site, ran very well - will definitely go back - thank you
