The view from our caravan was brilliant. Close to buxton, bakewell, and matlock. The down side was the use of cards for your electric. The grass was not mowed and it was full of dandy lions.
The fishing for the kids was good. Due to it being bank holiday there where tents galore and getting a shower was nye on impossible. The use of key pad entry was a good thing.
The tariff per night was a bit o.t.t.

We stayed at shallow grange for the first time in may. The site was very nice with good views.
The shower block was kept very clean, and well looked after. The showers were free, but over the six nights we stayed I only had one hot shower, the rest were barely warm,
It was school holidays whilst we were there and the children were playing football etc, very near to the cars and caravans, also the tent that pitched at the side of us was so big, it was only inches away from our caravan we could hear them turning on their air beds at night.
Might make a return visit but not during holiday time

We have just returned from another four night stay at this lovely farm site.
Good showers/toilets,recycling facilities and views. No play area but the hills are on your doorstep!
Very quiet site, suitable for a tranquil break. Only a short drive into Buxton.
The Tissington/High peak trail cycle path is also very close by. Very warm and hospitable owners.
If you happen to visit at lambing time, Ed will show the children the lambs and explain his passion for sheep farming.

Stayed for just one night, 2 people, 2 dogs for 16 quid plus £1 for electric (Buy more than £1 if you're going to run a hair dryer, they'll refund what you don't use.)
They asked us to arrive by 6:30p. Tricky to find in the dark, if you get to the bookstore, you just missed it. A lighted sign would be good.
The map given at check-in was a little confusing, it would have been nice to have been guided to our pitch, but we figured it out on our own.
Very little interaction with the hosts, but it was the off season. Beautiful views all around. There were a few other motorhomes on site and there also seemed to be plenty in storage.
The toilet block was clean and comfortable. Gorgeous really. I appreciated all the recycling options. Couldn't get freeview reception or internet via O2 on site. Not really a problem though, more a minor inconvenience.
There was laundry, but it required a key from the front office, so we skipped it. There was a place to do washing up as well.
Dogs are best kept on lead here, didn't seem to be a good area to let them run. In the end, we moved on to another cheaper site the next night.

We have already visited as a family in a caravan so knew it was safe to bring 2 children in a tent. I was still impressed with the condition of the fields and service but please could you either update or at least refurnish the disabled/mum and toddler shower and toilet facilities it was to say the least dirty and disgusting. A plaster and paint is not expensive and a shelf to put toiletries/clothes so they don't get wet would be lovely.
And thanks for charging me £16 extra for 1 adult when it should have been £6

After an eventful drive round (on a wing it - lets just find a site rather than pre-book visit), we were recommended Shallow Grange. At £12 a night for 2 adults, it's more expensive than some, but the new eco shower block was great (Dyson hand dryer no less ;-).) and with three showers, there was only a short wait.
We camped on the top field. Yes it did slope a little but we camped at the very top next to the stone wall and didn't notice it, and it was a bit windy, but nothing that a bit of elbow grease didn't sort out and some heavy handed mallot swinging.
We walked to the Church Inn and had dinner (Defo recommend the beef in guiness, don't have the steak - the chef doesn't know know to cook it - I sent one back and ate the second despite it being poor because I was so hungry at that point)
The site was good, but with three children (we were on a child free night - woo hoo) at an additional £3 per child per night, it might prove to be a bit more than we'd like to pay.

We have just returned from out first visit to Shallow Grange.31/7/10 to 02/08/10.
The site is very clean with lovely views, and there is plenty of space to pitch your tent. The toilet & shower block are excellent and spotless.
The owners, Ed and Marilyn, are absolutely lovely people, and nothing is to much trouble for them.Buxton and Bakewell is only a short drive away and well worth a visit. We are looking forward to our next visit to Shallow Grange.

We visited in July and ended up staying for four nights. A thoroughly pleasant experience at clean, convenient and very friendly site. The owners were helpful, lending us an OS map for walking the local area and were happy to freeze our coolbox blocks overnight at no cost.
Pros
- Top location, within the National Park but only a few minutes drive from Buxton and supermarkets etc
- Very clean
- Newly built shower/toilet blocks with free hot showers always clean despite some rain
- Friendly helpful owners
- Good value for money
- Choice of two camping fields (one within the main site, the other a more secluded overflow field at the back of the site). We visited in peak season but there was plenty of space.
Cons
- As noted by others the noise from the road is a bit of an ever present until late evening (11-12pm).
Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

We stayed for three nights on the way home from France.
A lovely peaceful site with excellent eco toilet and shower facilities. We stayed in the main field with EHU and had a good sized pitch
A lovely area to explore and close enough for a visit to Altton Towers for the kids.
The weather could have been better but the site drained well and there were no problems with puddling.
Buxton provides a good day out with a decent supermarket for all the food needs (although the Chinese restaurant was also pretty good)
Would definitely stay here again when we are in the area.

Found this site after being forced to leave a previous site due to severe gale force winds!. Ed & Marilyn were very welcoming and said we could check out the site which we did and found a lovely pitch with the sheep for neighbours in the next field. The shower block was great - plenty of hooks to hang your clothes and best of all the showers were hot whether first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Due to lots of rain we were not able to make the most of the beautiful surrounding countryside for walks but the site is only 3 miles from Buxton so did some sightseeing. Can't wait to return to this site which we hope to do in the very near future.
