We went to this campsite years ago and there was a pig roaming free then,we stayed for just a couple of nights on the way home from wales. The site is much improved, with new toilets and showers which are immaculate. Every time I went in someone was cleaning.

We got pitched in the tent field which was really quite. The owners introduced their dog to ours which pleased riley very much.

I only have one issue and that was when having a shower at night and all the lights went out. Bit embarrassing and I dropped my torch couldn't see a bloomin thing. Was hoping someone would come in and luckily they did. Not very funny at time but laughed about it later.

All in all a lovely friendly site will definitely be revisiting.

Shallow Grange is well organised but without pointless rules. The owners were very welcoming and it is clear they really make the effort to ensure everyone has a good stay.

I was part of a small group, so we were placed well out of the way so we didn't annoy the other campers - a good touch.

The weather was foul and very windy, and the heated (new) wash block was very welcome. The 'overflow' tent field is maybe a little exposed, but I think others here have overstated the slope.

The views more than made up for the walk to the toilet block, and overall I highly recommend this site.

The local area is great with plenty of attractions and amazing countryside.

This is also our 2nd return trip to Shallow Grange.

Just can't fault it, it was everything we wanted. Quiet family site, shower / toilet block has been improved this year with underfloor heating and free showers. Ed & Marilyn are very friendly and helpful.

Just 5 minutes drive from Buxton where there is a large supermarket.

Hoping to book again for a week in August.

I went to this site last year and was impressed then. We went back again this year and have decided to leave our caravan there all summer.

This is a working farm so lots of sheep around including lambs this time of year.

Owners are really nice and helpful.

Touring and camping field have lovely views.

Shower block has been revamped and is lovely but could do with a small shelf in the shower cubicles.

There are lots of lovely walks from the site.

This is a great base for visiting the peaks. Close to buxton.

No pub within walking distance but good pub in chelmorton and good food.

Overall a lovely quiet site well worth a visit.

Shallow Grange is a basic farm site with some seasonal caravan pitches that share camping facilities. The site is on a very exposed hillside. It was extremely windy when we were there. We saw frame tents & gazeebos blown away during our visit. All of the pitches we saw sloped, some very steeply. We opted for EHU on the August BH weekend. Because a motor caravan had been left on the wrong pitch, we were initially put on an overspill camping field. We complained about this & were moved onto a corner of the caravan site. As a result, we couldn't get the awning erected, but due to the high winds, this didn't really upset me. Besides which, this area was well sheltered by trees.

Toilets are inadequate for the number of visitors especially ladies. Only one shower & two toilets & wash basins in the main block. These were never clean during our visit, though it was wet & very muddy so I can accept that. There is an extra gents loo & shower in a small trailer in the farmyard, but even with this there were always queues. Late in the afternoon the hot water ran out in the main toilets every day.

Electricity is supplied via pre-pay cards sold at the farm. £2 lasted us the three nights, even with the fan heater on a little. The roads around the site are mud. Wellies or Crocs are essential. There was supphosed to be no cars on the camping field in order to preserve the grass. A separate field is expected to be used for parking instead. Not everyone did this however.

Buxton is really nice. The Pavilion is splendid. You must go for afternoon tea. I insist - real Victorian gem. As are the surrounding gardens. Sadly the old spa is no longer in use, the baths now being located in a 1960's concrete building. They were however lovely & warm, providing a welcome break from the foul weather. I swear I felt better when I came out! Poole's cavern is a small show cave set in a pretty country park on the edge of town. It is worth a visit.

This is a cheap, basic site. If the weather had been kinder & the site not so busy I'm sure we would have loved it. As it was, we were glad to leave. Pity.

A very nice site, but the slope on the tent site I felt was a little more than some other reviews state, we had a job to find a flat bit for the bed. The toilet and shower block was always clean, with a mop and bucket provided for use after your shower. It was a very bad weekend weather wise so we did not use the site to it's full potential, but my partner and I both felt that the caravans had the better deal as for as their field was a lot flatter, I think it would be better if the caravans were in the field that the tents were in at least they can level up with block under the legs, not much chance of levelling up in a tent. Very nice site but would not go back in a tent.

We have just got back home from Shallow Grange & enjoyed the weekend.

The site is actually bigger than I imagined when we booked it. There's a overflow camping field with good dog walking facilities.

Unfortunately it was quite wet & rather windy, I feel the need to point out that this site is quite exposed & you are high up in general, this did not help us to get much sleep all weekend as we thought our tent was going to blow away.

Although this is not a fault the owners can help however, just be prepared if you go & the weather is not great.

There is some noise from the A515 as the wind was coming from that direction (about 1/4 mile away) and this road seems to be the local race track at night from dark onwards !

We could not understand who the heck was sounding there horn from that direction at about 5am, although we were worried someone was in distress.

Only other problem which did not bother me was low

Passenger jets that I assume were on final approach to manchester, these can be noisy at times but I love to watch them !

The weather really did spoil the weekend for us I suppose, but this site is still worth a visit, no one can help the weather.

We understood & respected the wishes of the owners

Not to park on the pitches as it was wet, it's a shame not everyone is prepared to do this as some still drove onto the grass making it slightly muddy.

The owners came over as being very nice indeed although we were out most of the time during the day we never saw them.

Theres a nice fishing pond on site, although no one was there when I walked over.

Showers & general were ok, although my partner told me the ladies shower was not too clean with some dirty person leaving foot prints & a old sticky plaster in the shower, again this was during the busy period.

The site is in an ideal location to explore places

And we visited Ashbourne, Dovedale, Chatsworth,

Buxton & Bakewell.

Not bad for a weekend !

We talked about going back next year, but not sure we will as there's a few points that could spoil the stay there, road noise (depending on traffic volume & wind direction)& weather.

We stayed here for six nights. There was initially no-one there to welcome us, but within an hour someone turned up and apologised for being called away by a family emergency.

The site was clean and grassy, though the toilet block was a considerable walk from our tent (about three minutes), which seemed much longer, especially at night! The showers and toilets were generally clean.

Cars were parked in a separate field and were only allowed into the camping field for loading and unloading, which made for quite a safe environment. The site itself was quite a distance up the drive from the road, meaning it was very, very quiet.

We made use of the fishing lake when my father (a keen fisherman) came over from Bolton for the day.

There's plenty to do in Derbyshire, I'd recommend Heights of Abraham, Bakewell and Clearwell Caves, as well as Blue John Caverns. It's easy to fill a week long stay there.

This was our first camping trip, myself, OH and 13 year old son.

Edward was very welcoming, explaining all the site facilities on arrival.

The main field had the tents pitched all around the outside on a slight incline.

The toilet/showerblocks were clean and plenty of hot water, as with the washing-up area.

There is a no music policy and noise curfew was around 10, but never noticed any noise after all the kids were tucked up in bed.

Would definitely go back again.

First camping holiday with my partenr and really enjoyed it.

Sit is ideally located for discovering this beautiful part of the country. Close to Buxton for all your shopping needs. Church Inn, the local pub, serves great ale and great food. Very welcoming landlord.

Site owner was very pleasant and welcoming.

Facilities were very clean but could imagine you having to queue if it was really busy. Ladies hand drier was less tha useless and needs upgrading ( partners view).

Lovely site with nice views.

Only real problem was not being able to park car next to tent, which I felt was the norm rather than the exception.

Overall very happy with the site and had great short break.
