Just returned from a lovely weekend break at Poston Mill. The site is very well maintained, currently undergoing a toilet / shower block refurbishment which didn’t pose any problems – everything was still kept very clean and tidy. The hardstanding pitches are very spacious – plenty of room for an awning and car at the side. The grounds are very well kept, a pleasure to walk round the 33 acres. There is a lovely little river (Dore) which attracts various wildlife, the river itself has brown trout which you can fish for, so long as you put them straight back. This time of year of course, you can see the ducks with their ducklings paddling madly behind to keep up – they are so lovable. There’s a couple of walks marked out across the river into the countryside adjacent. There are quite a few static caravans on site – all kept to an excellent standard. We got talking to a few of the regulars who were only too happy to give us information on the site, area etc. Everyone was friendly – the bar / restaurant is managed by Caroline and Steve who were great company and we’re looking forward to going back and meeting up with them again. We ate twice at the Mill during the weekend, the food being excellent both times – our thanks to Steve - Oh, and Caroline as she had done the mash one day (which, I have to say, was the nicest mash I’d ever tasted!). Looking forward to going back later this summer.

This site has really become more a place for sited statics and all efforts have been diverted into this commercial venture. Everything was basically as described, but our area was a bit neglected. The river for fishing was a muddy stream, Shower and toilets blocks all looking a bit shabby and although regularly cleaned, the areas not reached by superficial cleaning are quite dirty. On site restaurant is a bit pricey and not very welcoming. A large menu and the food we had was reasonably prepared. Chef didn't have balsamic vinegar or parmesan cheese for the pasta and seemed to resent being asked. 20- 30 minute drive to large supermarket. Local village Spar shop a bit down the road. Much as you would expect from a village Spar. Lovely walks all around the area. We left early, the site was rather soulless and kids dented our car with a football. OK, but not worth the money.

We have stayed here numerous times through te winter and love it. the site is spotless and beautiful. Staff (Jenny I think her name is in particular) are wonderful and always happy to see you, nothing is a hassle for them. Shower blocks are a joy to use, clean, nice music, plenty of soap and toilet paper. Perfect. If you are lucky enough to visit this site in the winter when its been snowing you will not believe how mind blowingly beautiful it is. roll on winter!

This is an excellent site. Quiet, very dog friendly. Toilet / Shower facilities - limited number and a bit tired looking but always spotless. Staff very friendly and surroundings beautiful. Only problem we had was with another visitor who didn't like dogs. Worth its star rating. We'll be going back.

This is a very attractive site. The surrounding fields & play areas are brilliant ( & free ). You can Crown bowl, Pitch & putt, Putting green & exercise your dog/s. To be honest the owners are making more money from static caravans & it appears that much of the touring area is being reduced to allow siting of these. Our pitch had been used all season with out rest as we pitched on red soil which left our tent for the first time ever in a mess that took some cleaning when we got home.
The shower block was cleaned daily but still had a strong smell even straight after cleaning. They are looking a bit tired also! There are signs telling you to exercise your dogs in the area provided & to keep your dog on a lead at all times. There are always those few that think that does'nt apply to them. Shame, but it does happen!
The reference to fishing on the river that runs through the site is bit of an over statement as many average fishermen would find it difficult at the best of times, although I did catch a few 3" long Brown trout. Don't base your fishing trip on this place.
There is no food shop on site but a well stocked van calls into the car park a few times a week. A Spar is about 1/3rd of a mile down the road ( turn left out of the site gates.) The pub serves food but was a little too expensive for our taste. The walk to the farm across the fields is pleasant, the food is home grown but if you are on a budget then this may not be for you. Great meat for the BBQ but again expensive however you get what you pay for.

This was one of our favorite winter parks, but unfortunately the growth of static vans on this site now means that in winter vans are now situated in the lower field. In the past a winter stay meant that you were situated on a hardstanding with facility to park, now this is not the case. pitches are close together, where before you had plenty of room. booked for four nights but only stayed three, very dissapointing.

We chose this site because of the recommendations of the previous reviews & were not disappointed -It is probably one of the best sites we have stayed at. Quiet, small site with lovely children's play area, pitch&putt, dog walking (but dogs were always v well behaved & never let run wild)etc. Lovely situation in the Golden valley with a river walk onsite(sunsets across the river shows you why "Golden").
This was our first camping trip with our 15month old son & it was perfect for small children, quiet, spotless & safe (even in August). Toilet & shower blocks although not luxurious were always very clean (husband said the mens were the cleanest he had come across). A Fridge is provided for us campers who only have coldboxes to rely on which was very useful for storing milk, meat etc. Excellent Sunday roast at the onsite pub.
Lovely countryside around (Llanthony Abbey on the edge of the black mountains was beautiful - with a pub in the abbey!). Pitches were well spaced, although if you were unlucky to be between 2 caravans, you may feel a bit squashed. The only (minor) downside of this site was some traffic noise - which is only noticeable for tents I would think. Would book ahead in busy times as we phoned a week ahead & got the last pitch for only a limited number of nights.

August 2004 We have just returned from a trip staying at 17 different campsites in England and Scotland and this was my favourite site. Incredibly well run, there are about 15 members of staff who nothing seemed too much trouble. It starts at the reception where team are incredibly helpful and drive a little golf buggy to your pitch so you know where you are going. The showers are great (despite dodgy music) and I saw cleaners twice in one day cleaning everything. It was immaculate. We didn't get a chance to sample pub but it did look like nice. Great laundry facilities too.
Hay on Wye is about 15 mins drive and a must for any book lovers. It has lots of second hand book shops and places for afternoon tea and cake. There is a shop called Bookends selling brand new books all at £1. It has three floors and I could have spent hours there.
The Golden Valley is beautiful and I hope we get to stay at Poston Mill again.

September 2004 This is a lovely site in truly beautiful countryside. The toilet blocks were a bit dated but clean and like most sites not really adequate when fully booked. The staff are helpful, friendly and efficient, and the ammeneties such as golf!! croquet and boules were excellent. On Saturdays there is a local farmer who runs a store on site selling his organic produce - his bacon was wonderful!! The pitches were good and flat and most if not all had EHU.

May 2004 Very efficiently run campsite. Room for tents and touring caravans, next to a large static van site.
Pitches were flat and very tidy. The whole site was immaculately kept, and the toilets and showers were spotless.
Not cheap, but you pay for quality I suppose. The on-site pub is very pleasant and we enjoyed a splendid bar meal. We didn't get chance to try the restaurant but it looked good.
Definitely a friendly place and one to recommend.
