Better late than never, we submitted this review Jan 2015.
Poston Mill really is a gorgeous site, well kept and cared for with helpful, friendly and very approachable staff. The shower and toilet block were always immaculately clean and stocked. It has a well kept manicured pitch and putt course, a very nice kids play area and a lovely little river that runs beside the site which is very nice to fish, from which I caught my first ever Brown Trout.
We toured the area quite comprehensively, our favourite places being the Elan Valley and the Red Kite feeding station amongst many others.
We are hoping to return in 2015 to take up where we left off.

I was impressed with the appearance of the site upon arrival but soon realised why I choose to use CL's rather than formal sites like this. The rows of caravans made the place feel unnatural despite the work put in to make it smart. I couldn't fault the facilities as they were sparkling clean and it was nice to have a fully serviced pitch. I had chosen the site because I had my Mum (90) with me who needed the shower block as she didn't want to use the shower in the caravan. I saw plenty of sites in the area with much better views and natural surroundings at half the price, albeit without super pitch facilities.
I can understand why people like the site, it just doesn't suit me that well.

We spent a lovely few days here. The pitches are big and well spaced out. We chose a fully serviced pitch which was plenty big enough for our 30 footer.
Received a warm welcome on our arrival. Lots of info on hand.
The facilities were very clean and warm and the dog wash was a huge bonus. Also handy was the totally enclosed dog walk field.
Loads of lovely walks directly from the site.
The shop was well stocked and the Mill bar/restaurant was superb.

Just spent 3 nights at this excellent site. £22 per night for a super pitch in the middle of August seems great value for money. What is not evident in the publicity is the fact that the pub/restaurant and shop are only open from Thursday to Sunday inclusive, and the pub closes at around 4. 30 pm on Sundays. Facilities are of a high standard, and the site immaculately maintained
Public transport from the site entrance, and takes both Welsh and English senior passes (English passes can be used only after 9. 30 am).
Will definitely return.

Just spent a weekend at this campsite with my wife our daughter and our dog where do I start. From the minute we arrived the staff were smiling and were really friendly one of them even took us to our pitch on a push bike. The pitch itself was really big and easy to get a twin axle tourer in there. The facilities for me and my wife were fantastic they were even better for my daughter within the play area. There was swings, slides, tennis, pitch and putt, table tennis in fact there was to many to mention, . The dog walk was fantastic so my dog loved it there. All in all it is a fabulous campsite and will definitely be returning soon

This site is situated in a stunningly beautiful area around 10 miles from Hay on Wye. The B approach road is tight in places but navigable with care. Be careful not to follow the sat nav from Abergavenny as this will lead to a hair raising journey. The site does mention this in it's directions
The site itself is mainly static vans, caravan storage with a separate touring area and the whole place is immaculately kept. The facilities block is spotless and though the site was virtually full, there was no queueing. There is a pitch and putt course and a lovely big children's play area, at least it looked good to me with no children. The River Dore runs along the edge of the site and there is a very pleasant short riverside walk within the site area. There are a number of footpaths from the site from which you can reach the neighbouring villages although we didn't have time.
The small shop is open Thurs to Sun (I think) but only in the morning although Reception has some supplies. We ate at the Mill restaurant one evening and found the food to be good and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend the chilli!
There is a bus stop at the site entrance to Hay on Wye/Brecon in one direction and Hereford in the other. Hay was a lovely spot if you like pottering in antique and book shops. The buses seem to run about every couple of hours but Reception has timetables. The buses accept English bus passes which isn't always the case in the Welsh borders.
All in all a very pleasant stay. The only slight niggle I have is that there was noise from the surprisingly busy B road outside but that wouldn't put me off going again, nor should it put you off. This is beautifully kept site with friendly staff and in a lovely area well placed for exploring Herefordshire and the Brecon area. Can't wait to go back.

Just back from a peaceful stay at Poston Mill. What a nice site in a beautiful setting. Pitches were well spaced and a good size. We were lucky with the weather during our stay mostly dry but when the wind picked up there was little shelter. The facilities block was warm and clean, the showers lovely and hot with good sized individual cubicles. Nice indoor dishwashing room as well. The dog was not left out either - nice dog walk and although not used, the dog wash was lovely. We did use the on site shop - very limited stock but the bacon was lovely! When the shop was shut, staff were able to access items for us.
We took walking books with us and were able to do beautiful walks each day.
We enjoyed a gorgeous Sunday roast at the on site Mill restaurant and would recommend it as a place to enjoy a drink in the sunshine or a good meal. The added bonus was being able to take the dog with us (and not have to decide who would be the driver!) While were here, we visited the local pub, The Boughton Arms, They do delicious fresh beer battered fish and chips to take away on Tuesday nights - highly recommended! Totally dog and muddy boot friendly, lovely warm welcome for us, good local ale and cider, and a bowl of water for the dog. Very friendly chatty owners with good local knowledge. We also visited The Bridge Inn at Michaelchurch for an evening meal. Dogs permitted in the bar and garden. Excellent food with a really nice variety (recommend the slow roast belly of pork and the lamb!) Again, nice warm welcome and very locally produced cider and beer.
The only improvements I would suggest would be to have the shop open more often (only open 3 hours for 4 days a week) and to have the Mill open longer on Sunday and possibly more often.
Would definitely stay again, thank you!

Outstanding friendly well maintained site facilities ultra clean and warm for this time of the year !
If carlsberg did a campsite for dog owners then it would probably be the best in the world.
10 acres of dog walks rivers fields and footpaths never ending.
The dog shower is amazing the best I have ever seen.
Visited the Boughton Arms in the village where a wonderful warm welcome awaits dog owners and walkers.

Best site stayed in to date - I have been camping for over 20 years.
We stayed here as the original site we intended to stay at in Monmouth was appalling. We travelled the Internet and decided on this site due to the reviews, location, dog friendly and open all year.
We phoned ahead to check availability and the staff were delightful, very welcoming and helpful. Our sat nav sent us through the country lanes and to an incorrect location. The staff guided us to this site, ringing us en route to check we were ok and on the right road, excellent customer service.
We arrived just after 6pm on a wet and dark evening and received a very walk welcome and taken to our pitch by Jenny whom had been in contact with us regularly on our drive to this site. Even in the dark you could appreciate the standard of this site - extremely high!
There is a security barrier as you enter the site, reception is directly to your right at the barrier. There is also an information office to the left of reception providing a wealth of data about local places of interest.
The pitch was a hard standing with waste water, electric hook up and fresh water, there are shrubs around each pitch which are beautifully kept, subtle lighting in the evenings and lighting outside the toilet blocks and refuse area.
The toilets and showers are immaculate, warm and have a radio channel transmitting gently which is lovely. The showers are not tokens or push buttons, normal good powered showers with plenty of space to put your wash kit and clothes, the showers themselves are spotless and roomy. This is 5 star plus camping - exceptional. The sinks have hand wash in each cubicle, there is a hair dryer and there are amusing pictures on the wall.
This high standard is not only provided to humans - there is a separate shower (together with allocated hair dryer) for dogs, outstanding! This is the most dog friendly site we have ever stayed at.
This site has 35 acres of land, the site is immaculate, well kept, grass is kept short and shrubs pruned beautifully and has a river running along side it. There are walks from this site, details and maps available from reception where the owners provide multiple copies which they welcome you to take and enjoy. The staff are lovely, all bright and cheery and very helpful providing information and checking you are ok.
It was an extremely wet Saturday, we opted for the walk into Peterchurch from the site, directions being provided from the owners. Whilst it was wet and quite muddy it was a lovely walk along the river to this village. The tower if St Peters Church provides an excellent navigation point which ensures you are on the right path.
There is a Londis in the village, magnificent church built in 1130 and the grave of Robert Jones Whom gained the Victoria Cross for his bravery during Rorkes Drift, it is worth an amble around the church yard which has a massive Yew tree to shelter under. The tower of this church is made from fibre glass and at 186ft is one of the tallest in England.
We were quite wet and muddy and wished to partake in a well deserved drink at the Boughton Arms and were delighted when we saw the sign outside this pub which read 'Boots and Paws Welcome'. This is a traditional pub that provides a very warm welcome and free WiFi. The lounge is to the left and bar to the right, muddy wet humans and dogs are made extremely welcome. The Landlord and Landlady are most hospitable and chatty. The locals are very friendly and the food very good and reasonable. There is a bus stop directly opposite the pub which stops at the entrance to this camp site which we took advantage of (dogs are welcome on the bus too).
Sunday brought beautiful weather, we ambled around the site which has a restaurant, shop (not open when we investigated), throughout the site is immaculate, the children's play area is both large and pretty, there is a pitch and putt area, the dog walk is very good and has many buckets available to ensure the high standard of cleanliness is maintained.
An amazing site with exceptional staff and definitely one we will be returning to. There is no mobile signal which I personally enjoyed.

I think this is the best site we have ever been to. So neat and clean. The pitches were excellent and a really good size with everything literally on tap! The toilet and shower block facilities were pristine. The staff were so friendly - couldn't do enough for you. The dog walking facilities were excellent - pooh buckets everywhere! The food in The Mill was excellent although the portions were huge. It's a shame it is only open from Thursday to Sunday. Lovely area, not far from Symonds Yat, Mommouth etc. We will definitely be returning.
