Went back in 2008, what can I say, If every camp site was like this there would be no need to go abroad. The weather was (thankfully) amazing. This going hand in hand with the private beech views was blissful. The beech itself is nice fine nearly white sand, with a launching ramp for those lucky enough to own a boat.
The pitches them selves were massive, and we have a massive tent. More than enough room. Upon booking you can choose the pitch number and location that you wish to stay in but be warned the best ones (beach front) do go early and its hard to wrestle the regulars out of the deal the have with the owners. We had to book at least 8 months in advance to secure a sea view.
They have a shop on site that provides fresh patisseries and the usual cheap water pistols and playing cards. The facilities are great. The club house is a bit cheesy but have you ever been to one that isnt?
I literally cannot rave enough about this campsite. It ideal secluded surrounding make a great paradise for campers, and deservedly so. The only thing I would slate it for is its distance away from the other well known attractions in the south, but if relaxations your thing then head to this site.

We stayed there last May on F field (Whit week). Furthest field away, but we were happy to let our little boy play outside and not worry about cars speeding past, which you will get on the more central fields. Also we had some severe gales that week and anyone near the beach either had their awning or tent ripped from the ground, or had to collapse it before the wind took it. We were quite sheltered. We have booked again for May as the site itself is great. Nice pool (sometimes heated), good evening entertainment for kids and adults. Toilet blocks were clean, despite the shocking weather. Shop well stocked and no over inflated prices. We had a choice of pitches near the beach, but chose F field again, simply because of the reasons I have mentioned. However if the weather is good I imagine a beach side pitch would be great. Got to say though I think those pitches book up very quickly.

We have just been on our 4th visit to this site and yes again we had a great holiday. We managed to get H30 plot right on the front far left and it was great and really quiet as it was the close of the season and no one else was within 500 yards of us. I have only one gripe and that was that when we went up to go to the pool, it was closed for the season with no notice. We were disappointed as we were still paying for the facilities and wish that we had been told this when booking,

Spent two weeks camping here at the end of August, pitch was huge though a tad lumpy and quite wet due to all the rain Cornwall had had, though the drainage was very good due to the pitches having a sand bed. We stayed on e11 pitch which was a five minute walk to the shop, club , pool and beach, this was a lot quieter than the main pitches by all the amenities. The toilets and showers were very clean, they were cleaned four times a a day, unfortunately the showers are the push button type and only lasted 10 seconds which is very frustrating. Overall the site was very clean, we all loved the beach and the kids were in the sea all the time no matter what the weather. The pool was nice but got very busy and the lifeguards were useless (sat on a table eating and laughing between themselves). They allowed the older teens (17-20yrs) to do handstands and bombing down the shallow end where the smaller children were (there is a new pool planned for 2010) The restaurant is fantastic and very reasonably priced the carvery is brill. The takeaway is rubbish unfortunately this is not run by pentewan sands and the food was under cooked and over charged. The shop stocked a wide variety of things and though slightly dearer than tescos or asda down the road was ok if in an emergency. The evening entertainment in the showbar was fantastic they work really hard to keep the kids entertained with lots of comps and prizes. Again the adult entertainment was fantastic too with some really top class acts. The dj is fantastic, the drinks weren't too bad in price though they do lots of specials like a 4 pint jug of pimms or carling for £9. In the evening there is a lot of security and they were very good and clearing up groups of teenagers hanging around late at night. The childrens playgrounds were ok but on the small side and really geared for under 6s.
Yes it is a noisy site when the club turns out but only by the inconsiderate few, most campers/ caravanners were quiet after 11pm . Our second week there a huge 30ft campervan parked next to us and when we came back from a day out he has encroached onto our pitch and had put a windbreak across so no-one could use the shared tap and campers were walking across our pitch apologising to get to the water, this was soon rectified by asking him politely to take it down, so he then left his hosepipe attached so people cant use it, the management team on site were very good on sorting this out. We still had a fantastic holiday the weather was kind to us most days and we most definitely will be going back-well done Pentewan Sands

What a great site! We camped for two weeks at the end of August, three teenagers and wet weather!
Lovely clean toilet and showers, washing up area clean. Laundery big, clean and plenty of machines (washers and dryers) they could do with a spin dryer for hand washing! apparanatly they did have one last year, but this year GONE, please can we have it back.
We tried to book for electric hookup, no luck, I will be booking in November for next year, the kids loved it.
A couple of little moans, noise! we where pitched just off the main road, so as the club turned out we where entertained with bad language! screaming etc, there where always security on site but they never seemed to be on hand at the right time, or it could have been tea time.
SEAGULLS! what a nightmare. Left some shopping outside while sorting the car out, and bless them they scavanged through the bags, but it did not help with people feeding them!
Kids loved the pool, spent a good amount of the two weeks in there, the amusements where ok, went in the club a couple of times (not our sort of thing) drinks where expensive and seating could be better arranged!
But with all of that we loved it and will be booking early for next year!

Had 2 weeks here. Rained constantly in the week days and only dry at the weekends. Still managed to do loads and was surprised how warm it was considering the weather. Picked this site because it was so near the beach and had its own pool. The sand was like glass shards (this was when we did manage to dodge the rain clouds) It is a boat lovers dream, so lots of noise of speed boats. The site is very big and after the kiddies had been allowed to run around like little warriors for the first part of the evening, their parents appeared to stumple out of the club later on to talk very loudly into the evening. We were even blessed with a group of youngies pitching behind us that liked to play thumping music right up until noise was supposed to be restricted. Having 3 small children, this was not funny. I think the site was just too big for us. Oh yes, the toilets and showers were fine, but always busy and often needing a bit of a clean.

Just got back from Pentewan sands last night, from our first and definitely not last visit there. The site is very big but absolutely fantastic in every way. The private beach is lovely and sandy, you can catch good fish off the rocks at the far end, and enjoy them barbecued on site!
The kids clubs were very good and my children particularly enjoyed the sandcastle making club. The swimming pool was lovely and clean, but could have done to be a bit more heated, as it was freezing.
The tent pitches are huge, the electric hook up is free, and there are plenty of toilets and showers, which are cleaned regularly. Our only bug bear was the seagulls, but if some of the visitors could have refrained from feeding them, they wouldn't have been so bad.
All in all we had a fabulous time there, and will be returning there again next year.
Congratulations Pentewan sands! You've got everything just right.

We went 19th - 26th July. This was the first holiday we took in our caravan. On arrival I missed the booking area and went straight to the barrier (which requires a swipe card). Fortunately a member of staff came to us and let us through and asked us to park up and book in. Just to let people know that the waiting area is just on the left hand side as you turn into the drive, there are no signs. The check-in staff were very friendly and efficient and explained where our pitch was no problems. You get to book which pitch you want and we had chosen E7 as it seemed to be in a good location for us having 2 young kids under 2. Found it no problem using the little stone markers placed in the ground. The pitch was huge (13m x 13m) and we shared a tap with the neighbours. There is room to pitch the 'van sideways if you wish. It wasn't entirely level but I managed OK as a newbie. We were opposite statics which all seemed to be vacant.
As far as facilities went, the toilet/shower blocks were excellent, being very, very clean and large enough to cope with the amount of pitches (500+). Laundry rooms seemed good too, although we didn't use the machines at 4 pounds a wash! The irons were plentiful and free to use. Didn't use the washing up area but all seemed good.
The waste and chemical disposal points were clean and I never had to queue. The bins were in good supply and bins for glass bottles were provided. I never saw any over-spilling waste and the site was generally tidy and clean. The shop was well stocked if a little pricey on every day items, although they did have wine at 10 pounds for 3 bottles! They also had a fresh meat counter, great for BBQs. We used the takeaway once for a pizza, which was expensive for it's inadequate size. Would not recommend pizza at all. Staff were very helpful and friendly however.
The site bar; The bar was like a pub and the beer was excellent, prices average. We had a meal there which was just standard pub grub, but we enjoyed it. I did lose my wallet in the bar area and was overjoyed to find someone had handed it into reception.
We didn't use the pool or the amusements. We also didn't go upstairs to the club as we had the 2 kids, but it seemed to offer adequate entertainment if a little 'pheonix nights'.
We went onto the beach a couple of times, and found it quite windy and sharp under-foot as it is shale. But it was pleasant enough and our eldest enjoyed it.
The pitches on the front seemed to offer a fantastic view, however we were glad we didn't choose one because of the wind and people cutting across to get to the beach.
We had fantastic weather, so this made everything great for our break. Considering the size of the site, we were happy with the noise levels and were not disturbed at all by anyone. There is security on-site who do regular patrols. The stars on a clear night are fantastic and the general location is great.
The Ship in Pentewan, 5 mins walk, is a nice traditional Cornish pub, and we recommend the meals served inside. I had rump steak and it was really good, with homemade peppercorn sauce. My wife had giant yorkshire pudding with mash and sausages (4!). The portions were huge! Recommended.
We also recommend the Lost Gardens of Heligan as a good day out. We didn't really go many other places as we've been to Cornwall a million times and it's all been seen before!
We would go back to this site, maybe when the kids are older. Enjoy.

Although this is a large site you don't feel it is crowded. The pitches are very large and the ground is grassed but sandy underneath so any water drains away well.
The staff on site were friendly and helpful and the site was always clean. There is a good spread of toilet blocks which are always well maintained. There are several playgrounds for the children and a large grassy area near the beach for ball games.
The site is in a lovely area and well signposted so it was easy to find. There is a large Asda and homebase in St Austell so shopping was easy enough to get.
There is shop on site for the basics but as with a lot of on site shops it was a little pricey. There is a takeaway with a good mix of dishes.
We didn't go into the bar but we could never hear any noise coming from it.

This is not a full review, just info we discovered ourselves.
We chose this site, mostly for the facilities and prime beach location, our daughter is 5 years old (going on 15), so her needs were a particular consderation. We always choose a new site with caution.
We went down for 5 nights and must say we enjoyed the trip. Close to the beach in a nice bay (sand is a bit rough tho at high tide). Beach is accessible at high tide.
1) Location - You wont be dissapointed, close to St Austell's shops (10 mins by car), but close to nature too. Although we chose a pitch towards the rear of the site (with the busy A road and cars / vans doing 60-70mph going past), it was not overly intrusive, and we had shelter from onshore winds.
2) Facilities - The site itself, although large has ample facilities close to your pitch. The rear of the site is greener than the front with grass / trees / hedgerows, electrical hookups and personal water supplies. We preferred bottled water, theirs tasted of chlorine, particuarly in hot drinks. The onsite shop was well stocked, also had fresh meat, gifts and camping equipment. If you are stocking up down there, ASDA / Tesco in St Austell is accessible.
We counted over 80 people in the pool and there was room for more. It closed 2 hours early one day and the deep end was restricted another due to poor visibility at the bottom of the deep end (safety issue), but they managed to handle the situation professionally.
We are not the type of campers whose highlight is the club house, but we were impressed with the size of the room, air conditioning and decent sized bar / stage. There was quality childrens entertainment each night, before adults main entertainment and bingo. There is a restaurant downstairs serving all day, but we found the prices expensive (£30 for a typical pub meal for 2.5).
Toilet blocks were cleaned once daily from what I saw, showers were a bit hot, but adequate sized cubicles and adequately maintained. Convenient recycling facilities were appreciated.
3) Experience - Good overall, friendly staff, well kept facilities, good entertainment, beach location, quiet setting. We were able to leave a bit later on departure day as the only time it rained was 4 hours before we started packing up, so could dry the tent out.
Take a trip to Mevagissey (5 min drive or 2 mile coastal walk) to see the harbour and idyllic fishing village, with pubs/ restaurants, fresh local fish (just ask them to descale, and fillet if needed for the bbq!). We ate in the ship inn which was really nice!
Another day we took a 15 mile drive to Newquay which has more beaches, softer sand and waves!
