We spent 4 nights here and had fantastic weather.

The access to the site is very easy, no narrow lanes to worry about. The pitches are huge. We were in H field, near the beach and the gate to the Village where we had a great meal in The Ship pub garden.

The toilet block nearest us was very dated and looking tired, but the actual toilets and showers were clean. The ceiling had loo roll/tissue wads stuck to it that looked like they had been there some time. Showers are a push button that needs pushing every few seconds, but hot water with good pressure. Toilet blocks elsewhere on site looked much better. For the price you pay you would expect all facilities to be top standard.

All the site staff we met, including security staff, were all extremely friendly and helpful.

The beach was beautiful and it was easy for us to use our kayak and canoe to Mevagissey as well as around the bay watching the fish.

A bus stop is just outside the site, with frequent buses to many places including Asda. We got the bus to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and most of the bus ticket price was deducted from the ticket price.

Free wifi is available at the Seahorse. We didn't eat on site but did have a great Pasty from the on site shop.

Can't comment on child friendliness as we didn't have children, but there was a playpark on the beach and soft-play in the Seahorse centre.

We will return if we can get the right pitch. We would not want to be central as site is huge, but on the edges of H field or a beach front pitch is great.

We stayed here for 11 nights in June 14. We were incredibly lucky because we had beautiful weather for the whole visit. The campsite is large and busy, but at no time did it feel too busy because the pitch was massive (g20). The toilet block in this field was modern and clean. The showers were hot and free and there were plenty of them. We never had to wait for a shower. There is a club house which has some entertainment, but that isn't really our thing. I believe there is much more entertainment in the school holidays. In the seahorse there are two swimming pools which are spotless. These are free to use and would have been very useful had the weather been bad! There was the seahorse restaurant which was ok food. We ate there once. There was also a beach restaurant which was really nice. We didn't eat there just had drinks, but the food looked really nice. The shop had everything you could need but it was expensive. A much better idea was to travel 5 miles to the ASDA, or even better ALDI. We went there a couple of times for food and other stuff we needed. Pentewan itself is a really lovely village with a nice pub and a disused harbour which was pretty. It was very close to Mevagissey, and we walked the steep coast path to the town. Mevagissey is lovely, we went there on several occasions for a look round, and an ice cream. On a cloudy day we went to the free aquarium, small but worth a visit and the museum which was also free and was excellent. On our last night we had a lovely meal there at the sharkskin pub on the harbour. It wasn't cheap but the food, drinks and service were excellent and the views over the harbour were lovely. We spent most of our time on the jewel of this campsite which was the beach. It was lovely. The water was crystal clear and turquoise blue, the beach was sandy and safe. The sand was a little stony in places so we took swimming shoes. We swam, body boarded, rowed an inflatable and just enjoyed every second on this lovely beach. This campsite is by no means cheap especially the pitches near the front which are literally two steps from the sand but where else can you open your tent and step onto a beautiful beach, but also have immaculate facilities and electric hook up? I don't know anywhere. The only slight complaint we had was that there was no freezer to use for ice blocks. We had to rent ice blocks off the shop and pay 40p each to have them frozen by the shop. This was a pain but not the end of the world. On the whole we all loved it and would not hesitate to recommend and return.

Bayview farm site is brilliant it was my first camping experience and me and my husband turned up to this site and mike and liz went out their way to help us. Beautiful clean site, amazing view, and wonderful people. Mike did not stop working the whole time we were there and alway came to say hello. We will definitly return to bayview. The two wonderful shire horses that are on site just tops it off. Do go and check this campsite out for yourself you will not be dissapointed. Shirley and mick dodd

These reviews are all based on opinion aren't they. That's good.

There's nothing wrong with this site at all. Everything is lovely. Facilities are great - modern, nice and clean. Location is marvellous - bang on a (private?) beach. Easy to get to. Big, spacious pitches.

But I didn't like it.

It's very very big, it's full of kids. There's a ridiculously expensive restaurant/cafe/chip shop/site shop.

And this might be perfect for you, but I didn't like it.

I am perhaps a little biased, I am sure that I would have enjoyed all of its facilities if I had children. As I don't I don't really feel it's the place for me.

It felt like a chain hotel (in camping form).

My own fault; I didn't do my research.

Very nice site next to the beach with a new club house.

Food was ok and drinks were expensive, the toilet block was very nice and warm and clean.

We had a lovely long weekend and the only downside is the TV coverage is awful and there is no 3G on o2 or 3 and they don't offer Wifi ???

We would go back again.

If you want a small site then this is not the site for you !

However although the site is large we found it surprisingly quiet.

The main attraction of this site is the beach and it is glorious at one end you have a wall that people fish off and at the other you have rocks which are full of sea life for rockpooling and in between is a huge expanse of sand :)There are buoys in the sea which indicate where boats are allowed so the rest of the sea is boat free.

The pitches are of a good size so that you don't feel on top of your neighbours and mostly flat.

On site there are 2 pools neither very large but perfectly adequate and very clean.

The Sea horse club is nicely set out and has a great play area for children. The entertainment is ok sometimes being very good and others being dire ( comedian was awful IMO ), the food was very good and prices of both beer and food reasonable.

There is also a bistro next to the beach we however did not use this at all.

We didn't use the takeaway although it seems very popular.

The shop seems to stock everything that you could need whilst on holiday.

The icecream is very nice though be warned the bubblegum flavour does change the colour of your poop.

The arcade is small which is good as my children didn't want to spend a huge amount of time in there.

Security Patrol regularly which is good to see.

In walking distance of the site is Pentewan Village which has a great Pub the Ship Inn. Which was very reasonably priced and a few shops.

What a great site! We stayed in F field, the furthest field from the sea and closest to the road. The pitch was flat and well drained (although some others appeared to be sloped- so do ask when you book). We had a water supply and bins close by. Although we had a bit of a walk to a grey water disposal, we have booked a pitch next year where every water tap has grey disposal. The noise from the road is pretty loud in F field, but the road is super quiet at night with only the odd car going past. From what other campers said, the road noise is much less noticeable from the other fields (which is one reason why we booked C field for next year).

The toilet blocks are a bit variable in modernity and ours was very clean but a bit old and shabby. The water pressure is great- as long as the showers are not busy, when they slow to an unusable trickle. The push buttons vary hugely in there length of cycle, so if you get an irritatingly short one- choose another next time! The dish-washing area was fine but also a bit shabby (sinks leaked etc).

The Seahorse centre is great with two pools (our 6-year old LOVED the slides) and a great climbing frame indoors. The restaurant upstairs is also very good although service gets slow after about 7:30 pm when the evening entertainment starts. The kids entertainment was much enjoyed by all, although we only attended some in the first week.

The runaway attraction of Pentewan is the beach- big, private and safe. We spent every sunny day playing at the creek part, at the rock pools or just digging and swimming!

The mobile signal IS poor but there are isolated spots you can get signal from if you are desperate- I loved being unable to check emails and messages, but my technophile husband chafed a bit at having to go into town to access the internet!

The little shop has a bit of everything you might need, but choices are minimal- don't rely on doing all your shopping here! The snack bar is open late and the restaurant on the beach was great. We never hired any boats/skis etc but they seemed popular.

The village of Pentewan is very sweet and the Duck race on a Friday night is adorable! Mevagissy and Fowey nearby are also very picturesque. Heilgan is only a cycle away and was a good day out, as was Kidsworld in St Austell- an absolute lifesaver on the rainy days with a super-active son!

Take some wasp killer- although maybe it was just a seasonal thing?

All in all we LOVED this site and it is the first place we have been to in three years that we have booked a return visit to. I can see us returning year after year- as many campers seem to. It is perfect for a family beach holiday.

My wife and I have just returned from two weeks in a tent on an electric pitch at Pentewan Sands. We have already booked for next year.

First off, the jewel in the crown for this site is the beach. It's private (for those staying on the site only) and pretty big. The beach is around half a mile long and wide enough that it never gets too crowded even in high season. During our holiday the beach was always clean, the waters sparkling and clear. Many campers bring along boats of varying sizes to enjoy the water, whereas we swam. There is a large area marked out by buoys where the boats are not allowed, to be safe for swimmers.

On arrival we were checked in by a friendly staff member and shown on a map where our pitch was and driving directions were given. The site is large and staff simply cannot personally direct every camper to their pitch. The pitch itself (in B field) was not one of the largest on site but was certainly big enough for our 4 berth tent, canopy and car as well as setting up a kitchen outside. While one friend has correctly described the site as 'a bit rack and stack' the pitches are so large you're never short of space. Bear in mind that most pitches have a large caravan/tent, car, boat and gazebo or awning on them. There is perhaps not so much space for kids to run around on the grass.

After the beach the main facilities at the site are mostly in the Seahorse Club which houses the swimming pools, kids' ball pit play room, club and a beauty salon. The club house is quite new, about three years old I believe and is an airy design. The indoor heated pools consist of a kids shallow pool, a 'family' pool which is 1. 2m deep, a fun shape with two water slides, and a lane pool which is a pretty long standard rectangular pool also 1. 2m deep. Unless you want to dive, pretty much any kind of swimming can be done from fun with the kids to swimming lengths etc.

Our friends' children all enjoyed the ball pit, visiting several times during our stay. My wife used the beauty salon once and felt it's a great addition to the site although she prefers her local salon. There is a good range of treatments available though getting an appointment is difficult in peak season.

The clubhouse is a bar-cum-restaurant with a small stage for entertainment acts. It's probably a bit small and crowded during high season, and empty during less busy months. A tricky compromise but it's a nice bar area with a good range of drinks and food available. Prices are higher than some pubs but I expected that on site. Service was usually good, food and drink quality was also good. Entertainment was a bit hit and miss but you can't please everyone. What we disliked others may have liked, and vice versa. There was karaoke for kids and adults hosted by a very professional visiting duo to great effect. We also saw a reasonable duo who sang a wide variety of songs (from swing to modern pop) albeit to backing from MP3 tracks rather than a band. Other acts were less successful such as a comedian who wasn't funny. There were other acts such as an illusionist that we didn't see. There is supposed to be free wifi in the Seahorse but it was out for most of our visit and not at all reliable the two days it was working at the end of our holiday. For example in a 45 minute session I was booted off three times and couldn't upload any photos to social network sites as the system wouldn't let me. Staff at the Seahorse were all pleasant including the bar staff and resident entertainment staff who kept people happy with music and banter when there were no visiting acts.

The on-site shop is a supermarket! Really you could easily provide all food for a two week stay here - albeit at on-site prices. Having said that the quality of foods on offer is excellent with locally produced meats as well as big brand tinned foods, frozen foods etc. The shop also does beach equipment, camping equipment and has a bakery which does lovely croissants, baguettes, scones etc. They offer Cornish pasties, sausage rolls etc.

In addition to all this there is also a takeaway on site, which we used twice (once just for chips, and once for a full meal). The prices were higher than a high street takeaway but again this was expected. Quality of the food was good, as was service from the staff. Even at a busy time the wait for food (which is cooked to order) was not too long.

There's an amusement arcade which is mostly used by kids but has a wide range of machines some of which adults will enjoy. In the entrance are old fashioned mechanical 'penny in the slot' bagatelle type machines, these are genuine vintage machines in great condition and working. Inside there is a pinball machine, a couple of fruit machines, air hockey, and various video games.

Finally there's the Driftwood Bistro on the beach which we didn't use but looks very popular. People I spoke to said it serves good food though the chips are cheaper at the takeaway.

The site is quieter than we expected given that it is large with a *lot* of units on site in the high season. We were camped quite near the Seahorse and rarely were disturbed by the music from the club or people exiting. Generally our fellow campers were very considerate, as I hope were we. Nights were almost silent, even from B field we could hear the waves crashing into the beach during those trips to the loo in the wee hours.

There is an issue with seagulls and rooks. Nothing the site can do about this and not at all a reflection on their running of the site. Just be careful not to leave any rubbish (even bagged) or food packages out. The birds will find it, at 6am, and make a loud fuss of eating it. The only solution is to discard any rubbish in the (many) bins or to bag it and keep it inside your unit or car overnight.

Toilet/shower facilities are situated in several locations. They do vary a bit in design, some being older than others. Personally I found them all fine. I don't necessarily expect the latest designer sinks or tiles. The main thing was all facilities were clean and worked well. There was never any shortage of hot water to shower, water pressure was excellent every day. The showers are the 'press' type and the timings do vary. Some showers give only two seconds, others 18 (yes, I did time them!). There are plenty of washing up facilities and hand washing sinks for laundry as well as a good coin operated launderette. The design of the showers did vary, for example one block in B field had level floors which meant the shower water sloshed around a little in the stall whereas one in C block had the floor angled so that it all went down the drain. Not a problem as after my shower I simply used my foot to direct most of the water down the drain. My clothes never got wet.

Off site and nearby is Pentewan village with it's historic harbour - no longer open to the sea but mostly still there and very picturesque. The Ship Inn on the harbourside offers good food and an excellent variety of drinks somewhat cheaper than the Seahorse and has free wifi (only really works in the bar area, but it DOES work). Pentewan village was having a summer gala during our stay and there was a fair amount going on including a marquee across the road where pub clients could eat and drink, some live acts, karaoke, 'pig racing' etc. There's a bike hire company in Pentewan village too.

The lovely village of Megavissey is a short drive away or there are buses. One might even walk it. The harbour there is even more lovely than Pentewan with fishing and crabbing popular passtimes. There are other local attractions to tempt you off-site.

All in all we had a great time and decided to book again for 2014. To sum up, despite it's size the site is quiet and clean. There are always staff around cleaning the facilities, doing the gardening (there are flower beds etc. Around the site), and security do a couple of rounds late evening. It is a holiday park rather than just a campsite and you could literally stay here for a week or three. There is everything you need. While there is also much to do off-site with various tourist attractions within walking distance, or biking/driving distance.

We've just come back from a week at this site and it was superb. The weather was mixed but it didn't stop us from having a great time. We had a pitch right on the beach front (C21) and woke to the sound of the tide each morning. Considering the site was pretty full it didn't seem crowded or noisy. The showers/toilet block were clean and plentiful. As well as the beach and sea there are two indoor pools. Two restaurants served good food and the snack bar had a large selection too. The shop stocked most things you'd need from milk and fresh baked Cornish pasties to wetsuits and magazines. Mevagissey is lovely fishing village and a few minutes drive. We used the main car park on the way in. You aren't too far from Newquay or Padstow both of which we went to (less than an hours drive) and the Eden Project is 15 minutes drive away. A week wasn't long enough and we'd love to go back. Well worth the 400 mile drive there!

This was the 4th time we've camped at this big but great site, and we will be going back again soon. It is a large site, but the staff are very helpful, and as it's split into smaller sections it doesn't feel overwhelming. The situation is fabulous, and being right on the beach is lovely. Some of the pitches nearer the road do have some road noise at night. The facilities are so good you don't have to leave the site and not getting back in the car makes for a very relaxing break! The shop is well stocked, and if a little more pricey than the supermarket, it's convenience makes up for this. There are a number of outdoor playgrounds, including one right on the beach, plus the indoor soft play area next to the bar. The swimming pool is fantastic, the kids love it, and although the fun pool and the changing rooms can get very busy at times, because it's all included in the price you can go when and as often as you like. Some of the toilet blocks nearer the beach are a little old fashioned, but the one near us was modern, warm and clean, and lots of hot water, even at busy times. The only downside is due to it's popularity the site can get very busy, and you have to book in week blocks during the summer holidays. We will be returning soon, the kids demand it!
