A weekend fri to mon without the kids. Booked Wednesday on the phone and they talked me through pitches available whilst I looked at the online map. She said they had a rally leaving on Sat so if we wanted to move pitch after a night we could as they would have a larger selection of availability. Arrived and swift check in and got to our pitch, all seemed very large. I love this type of site, all open pitches and and a great view.
It was lovely and hot so a hop to the beach and a paddle. A super long beach it is too.
We walked into the village and had a drink at the pub, then returned to site and had a drink in the main camp bar.
On Sat the weather was not so good, we caught a taxi to Mevagissey. £9. 50! once there we were told about the bus £2. 60 return and it drops you just by the garage beyond the campsite, so that was the home journey sorted. Had a lovely stroll around and some tapas lunch on the harbour that is Portuguese owned.
That night we had a meal in the bistro on the beachfront of the campsite, it was good. You will need to book a table when its high season.
By luck would have it Sunday it was Mevagissey Feast Week, off we went to catch the bus again and were 15 mins early so the first there. The queue then began to form, with a group of 3 people telling us the earlier bus was full so they couldn't fit on. The bus arrives, us and one other couple get on, the rest inc the 3 that didn't get on the last one were turned away. So in high season get to the bus stop early to ensure a place! The bus goes twice an hour and once an hour on sundays. Its a big hill to Mevagissey and we didn't fancy it even on electric bikes. There are also buses that go to the Gardens of Heligan. Fab day at the festival with music and lots of cooking on the harbour and a parade, so bookmark it for next year.
The pool looked very nice, we were given entry bands at check in but didn't use it. The clubhouse has a soft play area and on Sunday night the entertainment started for the season.
We thought the site was great, the bar man and staff at the beach bisto were a joy, really chearfull and happy. Showers were the type you press every 5 seconds though. The location on its own beach was fab, in high season you can hire kayaks, go on a banana boat etc. We will be going back hopefully with good weather to make use of the beach.
One final point to note. On Fri night a group of 4 couples with 2 kids a piece about age 5 to 7 so 8 in total arrived to camp. In the bar on Friday night I heard one lady say to the barman she had recommended it to her friends so they had all come for 2 nights and at check in they were told that from lunch time on Sat the clubhouse and pool were closed to campers as a wedding party had booked it. She, her friends and 8 kids were now stuck without the facilities they thought they were getting. We were also only told at check in that we couldn't use the clubhouse on sat. It didn't matter to us, but these poor campers in Saturday rain were stuck in tents. So if you book and need all the facilities check they are available.
Facilities would be a 10 if you can use them all, they should tell you this on booking, its not a cheap site as you are paying for the good facilities so maybe a discount should be offered when they arent available to campers?

We stayed at Pentewan Sands to walk this section of the SW Coast Path, and although we wouldn’t normally stay in this type of site on a bank holiday, we were pleasantly surprised. It was full and we were very lucky to get a pitch with EHU, so we had no choice of where to pitch. All the staff at the site were pleasant and helpful. The site has its own private beach and is next to Pentewan village which has a pub and a brasserie, there is also a small spar type shop and post office at the petrol station. The site has an indoor pool and a club and also a pub/restaurant, takeaway, plus a site shop. To be honest there are a lot of facilities here which we didn’t use, as we were purely interested in the location of the site. At the start of half term it was full of families and children, but in the evenings it was not particularly noisy and in the part of the site we were in (F field), the pitches are roomy, so a pleasant stay. The toilets and shower blocks are a little dated but were kept clean with plenty of hot water plus soap and hand dryers. There is also a laundry and washing up facilities for campers. This a lovely location and we are thinking of returning.

WOW what a fantastic site Pentewan Sands in Cornwall is, we were on pitch G6, fantastic views, lovely clean shower & toilet block, lush take-away on site, very good priced shop, gorgeous in-door pools, Seahorse Club brilliant, Driftwood Bistro brilliant, havent got anything negative to say about this place, we were in a very windy part of the park but that was my choice as wanted a sea view, our Bell Tent & event shelter was brilliant, also log burning stove (frontier stove), really was brilliant on a cold night & morning. We will definitely be going back to this site again with more friends.

We visited this site mid Sept, just after the end of the school holidays. The location of the site is the best we have ever visited. The beach is just a few feet away from the nearest pitches. We ate at the newish beach bar. The food was very good and the service superb. The coastal path to Mevagissy is a nice walk of about 1. 75 miles but a bit hilly, so we got the bus back. The village pub was also worth a visit with a nice garden overlooking the old disused harbour.

We arrived thursday the 6th Sept for 3 nights, after previously been at a much smaller site in Brixham for 3 nights, booked in easily at reception. The pitch was easy to find given the size of the site, the pitch was large and flat with no mud etc. The option to have power hook-up is a huge incentive.
The toilets and shower facilities were very clean (only downside was no hairdryers). The only other downside was the fact that we had no service on our mobiles constantly (we had to go into another town just to make calls) Apart from that, we were very happy with site and the fact that the private beach was stunning was an even bigger bonus.

This was our first proper camping experience for my family and it was a brilliant introduction to it! it had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The pitches were well laid out, although the boundaries not clearly defined!
We were well situated near the toilet block, which was adequate, and never had to wait for the toilet or a shower in the morning. The beach was very close and pleasant, although pebbly so not great for sand castles!
There was a small playground on the beach, which our daughter (5) loved although she only needs a slide and swing to keep her happy. The new swimming pool was brilliant, free and well managed. It did get busy at times, but great fun with a child's slide into the pool. We're not really into arranged entertainment, but there was something on every night, we didn't attend these but we did go to one of the kids disco, which our little one loved and wore her out!
We went during the olympics so we did visit the main bar/clubhouse place often to catch up as theory were showing some highlights. The food was cheap and good value, good service and tasty.
This campsite was lovely to stay on, and very near to lots of beautiful villages and sightseeing opportunities.

The location of the site is excellent, with a very good beach which is great for the children. The site facilities are excellent, toilets are kept clean and the showers are good, dish washing area is good (it's a shame some campers can't clean the sinks after themselves).
The site shop is well stocked with the usual food essentials, toys and camping equipment spares. However the on site take away is over priced with poor quality food.
The Seahorse club house is good with a very nice swimming pool. The entertainment area is good with a nice selection of food on offer and music.
Our pitch was C100, we could clearly hear the music and DJ throughout the evening from 4pm up to 11pm and then we had to listen to the drunks going back to their tents.
The ground was sandy and didn't hold metal tent pegs well. The drainage was very poor as we had a lot of rain and at one point we thought we were going to get washed away. Wind was also a problem with some tents getting damaged.
Overall I wood go back, and hope the next time I book I get 2 weeks of sun.

We visited the site for 2 weeks, on arrival the check in was very disorganised, we were told to just follow the traffic which we did, only to find once we had checked in we were at the wrong side of the campsite. With a trailer on tow and parents behind us towing a caravan this was then very difficult to follow the narrow roads around the site to find our pitches.
The pitches are not clearly marked out just a flat red stone in the ground with the pitch number on, although we had a rough idea where our pitch was it was still difficult to find when everyone else is doing the same thing.
The electric and water units are together on some areas of the site with no dividing wall between the electric point and the water tap which I found concerning with my two young daughters constantly pushing the taps to help fill up the water containers.
We found this a very stressful start to our holiday especially after a 7 hour drive from Leeds. Once set up though I am happy to say that apart from the weather we had a very enjoyable 2 weeks.
The facilities on site were great for my children aged 6 & 9 on-site swimming pool and play gym all housed in the same area as the bar & restaurant with a patio area overlooking the sea which was beautiful when the sun did shine for us.
The toilets/shower block were cleaned twice daily and always pleasant to use with hot water all the time. The laundry facilities were also cleaned daily and were open until late evening giving you the chance to enjoy a day out and use the machines if needed after that.
There were 2 play areas one directly on the beach and the other in a woodland area which again were very good for the children. The shop stocked a range of items but some were costly but there is an Asda & a Tesco a short drive away. The local village pu although very friendly was also very costly.
The reception staff were extremely helpful and would look on the internet for you as the signal is extremely poor here.

We fancied a site on the beach, did some research and came up with pentewan sands.
on arrival we found reception to be really well organised as we were one of three families wanting adjacent pitches. We already knew where we were going to pitch as the website map has numbered pitches on it. The pitch was very generous in size and well maintained with water, electric and bins very close.
what to do first? pitch the pathfinder or look at the beach. We pitched whilst our two kids then 5 and 6, went to the beach returning five minutes later soaking wet wanting wet suits. It's always great to explore a new site and pentewan doesn't disappoint. Great well stocked shop( tesco and asda in st austell), on site fast food place if that's your thing, great toilet and shower blocks, beach bar and club house which has a great pool, hairdressers and beauty salon. If you want to launch a boat there is a facility for that at a small charge.
the site has security walking around at night. We did find one night rowdy with one particular group, and security did hot seem to have any effect, but we always seem to camp near a karaoke family. Generally it was pretty well mannered.
The beach is great. The sea does go out a good way so great for young kids as it is shallow and calm. Boats are plenty but don't interfere with swimmers. One morning we awoke to find the beach covered in marines with two tanks and a naval frigate in the bay. Great to watch. You can walk along the beach to pentewan 5 mins, or along the coastal path to mevagissey roughly 45 mins for a fit person (very hilly but worth it) mevva is great. Crabbing, free aquarium, boat hire, boat trips, model railway, pubs, shops, chippy, icecream parlour and even a pirate shop with genuine pirate.
Back to pentwan sands. Our stay was fantastic as we had wall to wall sun. For a large site it's not really busy. People who visit this site seem to book the same pitches for the same weeks year after year. We are trusting people and don't really go to town on locking things up or sometimes putting things away, after all we are all in the same boat. But we were warned about take away Friday!. Because you stay Saturday to Saturday people tend to leave late Friday night or very early Saturday morning. Opportunists eh!. One of our neighbours very thoughtfully started his car at 5. 00am whilst he hooked up his caravan which must have taken twenty mins!
as we understand it your pitch is not available till twelve o clock. The next occupant was waiting from 9. 00am putting me under unwanted pressure, push me I go slower. Its difficult as you don't want everyone to turn up at twelve, but new people should only be let on site once the pitch is vacant, maybe.
All in all we loved it and between the 10 of us we decided to book again for 2012. This process is carried out by submitting your preferred pitch number on a particular date by post, any sooner it gets returned. Its the only fair way I suppose. We didn't get preferred pitches but were still pleased with what we got allocated. On arrival the second time, I personally didn't feel I was on an adventure as I knew where everything was, but that doesnt take anything away from the site itself. Thank you Cornwall, another week of wall to wall sunshine and high temperatures. See you in a few years perhaps.

First the pluses - a lovely beach adjoining the campsite; great bar and restaurant, indoor play area and two pools. Shop expensive but very well-stocked with everything you could need.
Easy distance to some lovely Cornish villages, like Mevagissey and St Austell. Nice walks along the cliffs on the South Down Way too
Unfortunately on our visit we had the family from hell next door, who stayed up till all hours, drinking and shouting at each other.
Plus - and this would be my overwhelming criticism - the site when we stayed was overcrowded. The pool was heaving as soon as the temperature dropped. There was not a permanent lifeguard on the pool whilst we were there.
Toilets and showers quickly dirty although no problems getting in to be fair.
Maybe I'm grouchy from lack of sleep but we're not rushing to go back here; if they had some sort of curfew I might consider it.
