Just returned from our annual trip to Cornwall, have been staying at Pentewan Sands for 7 years, and where looking forward to the new Seahorse centre.
What a disappointment! 1st the swimming pool lap pool is fine between 9 and 10pm adults only but beware the edge of the pool is extremely rough saw a few kids damage themselves. The kids pool/fun pool was ok same problem with the edges and a slide into the pool not clever and the same depth all over.
Now the club, where did it go wrong, no stage so the artist are on the dance floor and you get people walking in front of them, kids stood up so you have no chance of seeing the show, and all the acts where asking for the stage back and getting the biggest cheer of the night.
In years gone by you would see different artist each week now you get 4 or 5 repeats great if you see it on the 1st week but 2nd week a no go.In the main room there are 2 large screen tvs showing football when the acts are on they should be turned off when its show time, there is another room with a tv which shows the football.
Tables left with empty plates of chips all night empty glasses and it wasn't even packed. And the thing all the girls where going on about no bingo.
There now seems to be the problem of teenagers hanging around as theirs nothing to do they've take the amusements out.
Ok that's the whinge out of the way still 1 of the best places to go for a relaxing holiday. Toilets, showers always clean plenty of hot water at any time of the day, good shop, good take away.
May be the problems will be sorted out by next year I'll be back there again for my 2 weeks of fun

We have just returned from Pentewan this was our second holiday at this campsite.
I have to agree with the other people that have reviewed this site,it is clean tidy with well maintained toilet and shower blocks.
I was very disappointed with the new seahorse centre, it has no stage so it limits it to what acts can appear, it seems to have tried to go upmarket but in doing so it has lost all the atmosphere of the old clubhouse
Also there is nothing for teenagers to do on site now the arcade has gone also no early evening entertainment for small children.
This led us to venture of site for our evening entertainment.
The camp shop seemed expensive but having said that Asda & Tesco are ten minutes down the road.
If you want a good value family meal then the Ship in is a must.
The shops in Pentewan village are very good if you like kayaking then the water sports shop opposite the bike hire shop is a must also.

I have been visiting pentewan for many, many years as a child and now as a mother of 3 children ages 16,4,3, the site it beautifully located with its own private beach
Last year club house was refurbed and is now the seahorse centre, however sadly disappointed with the entertainment offered for both adults and children and this is nowhere near as good as in past yrs, I have never seen the clubhouse so empty, there is definitely nothing for slightly older children to do in the evening.
The food is not very nice, but if you wish for good food the ship in is the place to go, mevagissey is a lovely fishing village roughly 1-2 mile up the coastal road.
There are 4 toilet/shower blocks on the site not 3 as lots of people think and apart from one which was newly built a few yrs ago the others are in desperate need of refurbs. We were front row pitch which makes it lovely to wake up in the morn with such a stunning view.

Beautiful setting with a stunning beach all to itself. Toilet blocks are plentiful and clean. New Sea Horse centre is stunning and the pool is great fun with flumes et al.
The Ship pub is a must for good wholesome food and very friendly staff, only a very quick walk from the campsite.
Snack bar is pretty good if a little pricey, shop is well stocked.
All staff very friendly especially the impossibly pretty girl working 24/7 in the shop !

Camping with my husband, daughters 19 and 13. Great site, this is our second visit and each time we have not had great weather, but still had a fab time. The beach provides lots of entertainment, Kite flying, body boarding, cricket or just relaxing and enjoying the view.
The new leisure complex is lovely, very different to last year but I do think its lost something in the rebuild. The two pools are great but there is no outside space (at the moment) to enjoy watching your children play in the pool. The bar area is more like a wine bar and although entertainment is provided (check out Ben Murphy the comic very funny). My 19yr old missed the bingo as she won last year.
The younger children 11 to 15 age group were not really catered for, the amusements have gone which meant there was nothing for my 13yr old to do on an evening. This was a great shame as last year she made some great friends by going to the games area. There isn't so much as a pool table.
Would agree with the last review with regards to the shower and toilet block, excellent. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Pitches are large and plenty of room.

Wonderful site - great base for exploring Cornwall. Superb new clubhouse and pools, we had a large front row pitch right on the beach so we woke everyday with a great view of the sea. Toilets and showers were spotless and regularly cleaned. There are three blocks the older one could do with updating though.
There is a supermarket on site but only has the basics really - Huge Asda store and Tescos are 10 mins away. New shopping mall just opened in St Austell 5 mins away with a fantastic 3D cinema!
Reps were lovely - nice and friendly and kept the kids entertained.
Probably would not recommend for teens as there is not much for them to do - No mobile signal anywhere and TV is only available with proper antennas on long poles - I couldn't get any signal from my Status aerial. - WIFI is available at the clubhouse.

This is a lovely campsite and the facilities really brilliant, recently came back from a long weekend and have booked to stay again in shorty.
We had a meal at the Ship Inn and had a lovely meal.
There is lots of places to visit whilst in Pentwen Sands.
When we were leaving the gym was about to open and looked very good.
The toilet blocks and shower facilities are excellent and the warm shower for washing off wetsuits is excellent as it warms you up, even on a hot day like we had in June.

Second visit here after discovering the site last Summer. Had a great time, but I was very disappointed at the changes to the clubhouse. The pools are nice, the gym seems a bit of a white elephant to me. I was very disappointed with the new bar. Unlike last year, when the main restaurant area was downstairs, it is all upstairs now.
There is no stage, which means unless you are sat right in front of the entertainment you can't really see what's going on. The children's entertainment is nowhere near as good as last year, it is always cut short so that the main entertainment can set their gear up.
The kids arcade has been pulled down, my 11 year old daughter was so bored she didn't even want to go to the clubhouse in the evenings! Unheard of. Over officious security staff wouldn't let my eight year old daughter come inside the clubhouse one evening with an ice-cream she bought in the snack bar. They made her eat it outside in the rain! I was disgusted by this, but received no apology.
The pitches and other amenities were up to their usual high standards, and staff on the site were friendly and helpful.
It seems to me that the site has lost sight of the things that have made them such a favourite with people that return their year after year. I fear that the changes they have made will lose them a lot of this business.
That said, I had a great holiday despite all of that. I don't think I'll be returning in a hurry though.

Me and my partner have just returned from a weeks camping at this site and I must say it wont be the last. The site is fantastic, has its own private beach, very clean, friendly atmosphere was great. As the site is in its own cove it does tent to get a little windy but with the weather been quite warm the breeze was actually really nice ( just the wind brakes had to be knocked in more regular).
As for the toilet blocks I couldn't fault them there is 3 blocks in total each with plenty of toilets, wash basins & showers ( also separate bathrooms if you get key at reception if you want it more private). The toilets were cleaned every day between 11am to 1pm.
The whole week we were there we never once had to queue for anything, in fact on most occasions we were the only people in the showers & toilets etc. and the site was quite full so just shows how big the facilities are.
The on site supermarket we found to be over priced especially for the daily things such as bread, sausages, bacon, milk etc but other things seemed ok, but with an asda literally 5 mins down the road we hardly used the shop, just for morning papers.
The new seahorse centre isn't fully finished, the gym wasn't open when we went but there was a note on the door to say there aim to have it finished by the end of the week, the pools looked lovley and a lifeguard was always on but we didn't use them as the beach & sea was nicer with the weather been so hot.
I must stress that anyone going to the campsite should go for a meal at the ship inn pub in the pentewen village (over the path at the left hand side of park takes you straight there 2 mins walk) it was the best steak I have ever tasted. For £11.00 you get a right plate full, but we found it was cheaper to order the platter for two which was £19.00 in total and you get 1 huge silver platter with chips, salad, onion rings, grilled tomato, peas and a choice of 2 meats either a steak or gammon or even fish
All in all the holiday was fantastic and would definitely recommend this site to all ages we didn't want to come home. If I had to pick any bad points about the site my only fault would be the miserable girl behind the takeaway bar serving foods never broke into a smile on both occasions we went there, but that's not really a bad point about the park, that's how lovely it was

Well signposted, friendly and helpful greetings at reception. Beautiful location for the beach (very coarse sand), the scenery and for walks. Toilet blocks dated but clean, showers nice and hot.
New complex including two pools, jacuzzi, gym, bar and restaurant impressive. Little village of Pentewan just over the footbridge to the north of the site, lovely pub called the ship - great food and drink.
It's a good walk (but beautiful) to Mevagissey, south of the site, public footpath on the left just as you are about to leave site. Fantastic views over headland though.
The take-away on the site was usual site prices but mmmmm was worth it (fish and chips).
St. Austell 10 minutes drive for Asda, site shop well stocked for most things. Ideal base to relax, walk or explore Cornwall by car (you must visit Fowey). We would recommend this site to all. Great holiday.
