Have returned to Pentewan after a couple of years. Feel they have made some great improvements to an already brilliant site. The indoor pool is great, the kids loved it although only has around 6 changing cubicles- woefully inadequate.
We also loved the new beach bar right on the beach, which served lovely food. My husband had a fish dish which he felt was better than a meal we had had in Mevagissey. The Ship Inn is also great with a lovely beer garden.
The site itself feels very safe, felt quite happy letting the kids wander around and go to the play area by themselves.
We don't bother with the entertainment as its not really our scene so can't comment on the new seahorse centre.
Lots of places to visit close by - a lovely little beach at Gorran Haven, Eden Project, enjoyed hiring bikes from pentewan as lovely little cycle track leading towards St Austell.
We enjoyed our time there so much we have booked to go camping there in August- 12 weeks and counting!

I wasn't looking forward to the four hour drive to Cornwall and the weather that seems to hit that part of the coast. But I have to say it was worth it. The staff were helpful in Reception, you could pitch how you wanted within your boundaries and were left to enjoy your holiday!
We had a problem with fellow campers enjoying themselves until early hours - they were promptly dealt with by staff once we complained (among many others), cant fault the management in their handling of it.
Toilet blocks were clean and well cared for, the beach was beautiful. The shop well stocked. The clubhouse building was new and high standards, but so were the bar prices this put us off so we stayed and enjoyed a drink on our pitch after that.
Swimming pool lovely and warm and the standard of finish of the changing rooms/showers fab.
There is hardly any tv or mobile signal - so be prepared to hold a conversation with your family rather than electronic entertainment! You will be lucky if you get tv signal.
The coastal walk to Mevagissey is a must - but be prepared for sore calves for two days! Site entrance and exit is in my opinion a bit dangerous - the road is busy and fast and is hard to see traffic coming - just take care.
Not far from St Austell with usual golden arches and Food superstores on your doorstep too!
If the weather is good the beach and facilities are tremendous - would highly recommend but take your own alcohol unless you have a full wallet to enjoy the entertainment in the clubhouse. Or alternatively visit the Ship pub across the estuary out of the other side of the site.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Pentewan and we really enjoyed it. The view from our tent was lovely we could see the sea and park situated on the beach so the children could play safely where we could see them.
The facilities are great especially the pool and the ball pit. The park was full but never felt too overcrowded. Well except when the football was on in the seahorse centre where we couldn't find a seat (but the young lad who worked there Alex I think he may of been called went off and came back with two chairs!).
The entertainment was good for the children. The staff in the shop were ever so helpful and polite (although the woman who may of been in charge was a bit miserable).
We had the pleasure of the marines training on the beach and they let the children and adults have a look around their boats and took time to chat to everyone!
The showers and toilets were cleaned regular and the showers were nice and hot. I found the new shower block better as the shower heads were not as high as the older ones.
Our neighbours were nice and polite too and the park was always quiet by mid-night.
It took us 9 hours to get there due to the motorway traffic and that is the only thing that would stop us returning otherwise would recommend this park to anyone!

The site was the most expensive we visited during 2 weeks touring of Cornwall, but having said that it is in a fantastic location.
The site was still quite busy given the time of year, but all was quiet past sunset. Not sure this would the case during main season given the size of site.
We didn't try the on site bar but went to the Ship Inn, which is a 2 minute walk from the site where they are friendly and serve good beer.
Site facilities were very clean, but were a bit of a walk from the van, also the only chemical waste disposal point we could find was also quite a trek. Not much information was given during check in and we were left to find things for ourselves, which given the size of site is disappointing. Also the washing machines were £5 per load, which is steep as most places we stayed are aorund £3.
The site is in close proximity to the cycle train that leads into St Austell, which is quite a nice ride, just look out for the boggy parts on the trail.
There is a slipway on site too, so great for anyone with a boat.
We would visit again but, again it would be out of main season.

We went (family of 4, 2 kids 6 and 12yrs) the last week of the school holidays and boy could you tell! Seems it may have been a lot quieter than previous posters have said.
We had no problems getting to the pool (used to go about 4pm) and would then pop upstairs for a quick drink and maybe a spot of food (tad expensive). Never been to the site before so sorry cant compare to what it was like.We also didn't do the entertainment.
We were based on pitch 18H at the far end of the site near the play area on the beach. Lovely big pitch right next to the beach. Beware getting tv signal was a problem but did manage eventually (saw lots of satellite dishes tho). Beach was a bit dirty, rubbish and very stony. This was the last out of 3 campsites we visited and would have been our favourite apart from the kids didn't like the beach! No waves as such for my newly interested body boarding daughter.
Wifi was available but at a cost (£1 per 30 mins). Toilets/showers were always clean but we were close the the old toilet block.Wear your sunglasses as they are very yellow!
Mevagissey was lovely.A bit like St Ives about 30 yrs ago!
To be honest not sure I would go back. Not due to site but the stoney beach

Just been back to Pentewan Sands for a weeks camping stay with my parents, had a lovely time apart from the weather.
The my tent didn't even flood with the heavy rain, pitches excellent and have good drainage.
Went to Minack Theatre well worth a visit and also Lands End.
Eden project is also another good place to visit, even when the weather is bad.
I am planning next years visit back and hopefully the weather might be even better.
The Seahorse center offers excellent food at reasonable price.

We have just returned from our 1 week holiday at Pentewan Sands. This has got to be the best campsite we have ever been to. We loved the beach, never crowded, lovely soft sand, and only a minute from our caravan.
Our children were a bit mixed about this site, our eldest (15) didn't meet any friends which is unusual for him. I think this may be because there was no where for teenagers to go. My youngest was in the play area (inside the seahorse centre) all the time! we couldn't get him out of there (age 7) and it stayed open really late too. He also got use out of the pool.
We were a bit disappointed by the entertainment area if I'm totally honest. It felt a bit like a canteen. Not cosy or nicely laid out. Just uncomfy chairs and tables. We could never get a table on all the occasions we went to see the entertainment. It was heaving (the weather wasn't up to much so I think most people spent more time in the seahorse centre than there normally would be?).
But all in all, a fantastic site! and we will be booking again for next year.

Very popular large site in a South facing bay sandwiched between large cliffs giving some protection against the stronger Westerly / South Westerly winds. We were told that this is one of only a handful of a campsites in the UK where you can launch a motor boat directly from site.
As such quite a lot of people took boat with them and some of the pitches appeared a little cramped because of this. In reality they are a good size but when you have a large caravan (or tent), a gazebo, 2 cars one with a trailer the other with a boat, then you can see why! We pitched in 'F' field at the back of the site.
There was some road noise during the day but its not much of a problem and we didn't notice it at all at night. The fields just behind the beach are most popular but are very difficult to book. Apparently, the site takes next years bookings in November, but repeat customers get first priority.
We booked our pitch in January by which time there were only 5 or 6 electric pitches remaining (none on the beach fields either). You should be able to get a non electric pitch a bit easier though.
Facilities on site are generally good with several wash blocks, a bar, shop, indoor play centre, swimming pool etc. The indoor pool is excellent but you might need to queue for entry at peak times. A minor criticism would be the condition of the wash / shower blocks in 'F' / 'A' field though.
They were cleaned daily, there were plenty of showers / toilets etc but a pitch is quite expensive at this site (we paid £42 / night) and I would of expected newer facilities for this money. The buildings were fine but some of the fittings were in need of replacement.
In summery though we liked this site a lot and we would return. As for the surrounding area well there is lots to do, Bedruthan Steps on the north coast was our favourite.

Unfortunately what a disappointment.
First stayed here about 18 years ago, what a better site it was then.
I believe the site to be too big now and the pitches are crammed in when you get closer to the beach.
We stayed near the 'new' toilet and shower block and to be honest we started using the older block as the newer block could not cater for peak season campers. The toilets require extra frequent cleaning and the showers become increasingly frustrating having to hit the button every 8 seconds. Shower curtains are required as the spray from the shower manages to soak shoes and whatever else is nearby.
The new clubhouse was also disappointing. 2 new indoor pools with only a handful of changing rooms and lockers - not adequate for peak season.
The clubhouse is now situated upstairs and to be honest it is just an empty room with table and chairs as the prices for the food there are too excessive.
To try and end on a positive note, the site is well situated being so close to the beach, so if you enjoy your watersports and always go away with a boat or windsurf then this site may suit you, if on the other hand you have 2 children under 5 then I would suggest you keep searching

After 4 years of been told I need to visit this site I decided to splash out the 600 quid for 2 weeks. We arrived late the night before we were due on site. Security showed us the way to the holding field and were friendly £5 charge for the night cheap as chips. The morning came then chaos reigned in as the field filled up. Everyone was told if there pitch was empty at 0830 they could go on. We were still in the holding field at half 11 even though the plot should have been vacated by 1030.
The site has its own beautiful beach and a small play area for little ones. Also has another small play area at the bottom end of the park.
The new clubhouse looks well but that's about it. The kids ball pool was very rarely open due to something or another and the prices were steep. The 6 times we went to the pool we were turned away as it was full.
The site needs to get a grip and listen to people.
The plot we were on was supposed to be 13m x 11 meters, no where near it was 8 x 9.
If you need the toilet between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm forget it as the toilets are generally shut for cleaning, in 30 years of camping this was a first.
Sleepy mevagissey was either a walk away or just under 2 miles in car. Newquay was around 18 miles with st austell around 3.5 miles down road.
Will I go again def not as there are better sites much cheaper in cornwall, so if you don't have a boat or a beach fettish I'd stay clear.
P.S if you have a ford sat nav and still want to go to this site turn the damn thing off or you will end up down some very narrow country lanes with steep hills when you get off the A30.
