First time to Detrongate & Bolton Holmes. We went for Easter and when we arrived I thought 'oh my God I hope we don't have to pitch on that slope'. Yes we did but they had bricks there ready for you and gave me a hand, as we have only had our caravan a short time. As we pulled up there was someone there to meet us and then another person took us to our pitch. We had a pitch over-looking the new park which was handy. There were plenty of toilets & showers all clean, a good laundrette with a free iron & board, a small but good shop. There is also fantastic walks from the site. We will be visiting this site again in the summer and can't wait to go back.

Visited the site, friends are sited on there for this season. Very nice and helpful Groundsman and Site Wardens, the site is very exposed, two awning belts and still lost brand new awning. Some nice pubs nearby, good food The Canal Turn pub is one of them, nice café near Sandside (Archers Café) just a short walk along the coast. Half of the pitches only 6 amp, ask for highest 10 amp pitches, there are always plenty of pitches.

This was our 2nd visit in about 4 weeks, the 1st visit being bank holiday and thought it worth posting a 2nd review. My 1st review was posted under Bolton Holmes ---same site really. Anyway the welcome was excellent and although we hadnt booked, we were given a great pitch on field A again. Being a last minute thing we forgot some food items but the shop was able to sort us out. Really enjoyed the 1 night we had there and is a really useful, friendly site for us to visit whenever we choose.

We arrived here on Saturday and after seeing this sites web info we were not disappointed. We found the directions to the main reception easy to follow and were greeted by a friendly member of staff. Booked for the 1 night, bargain price £10. The site was quiet and we chose to pitch up next to some willow trees in the field nearest the toilet block and reception. Good flat areas for tents and nice views of the surrounding countryside. The wildlife was interesting too. The toilet facilities were excellent, roomy and very clean. Wish people would respect what people do for them, someone had put weeds, grass and earth in a sink filled with water, pulled the plug and blocked it,that's no way to behave. Fortunately I have not had cause to complain often in all my years camping. Showers free (no charging here for 6 mins worth of water)(other sites do this)so you can shower to your hearts content in the privacy of separate rooms. All in all recommended. I noticed a play area and games room, so would prob suit children of all ages.
A nice little bar on site would while away some time especially early darker nights, will wait and see.
This site is worth a visit and we will go again.
Unfortunately its getting late in the year now, bit chilly at night so may have to wait till next year. Happy camping.

Just got back yesterday.
Very nice site split into various fields with a mixture of touring caravans & statics. The usual tent field was closed but we were put at the top of a tourer field which was fine, with great view over Morecambe Bay & the Lakes.
Toilets & shower blocks (there were 2 at least on site) were very clean and although it was no power shower it was fine. There were no queues but it was quiet.
The staff are very friendly & helpful, they showed us to our pitch & offered advice about the local area. We couldn't of been happier with them to be honest.
For the kids there's a big playing field, small playground and a games room with plenty in it - pool table, table tennis, air hockey & video games.
There's no pub on site which suited us fine as there are a couple only 15 minutes walk away.
There's an shop on site selling any bits you'd need and also morning papers.
I really cant think of anything that was a problem, all in all a very good site. £10 per night for 3 of us in a tent. I'd have no problem recommending it to anyone

Visited this site early August 2008. It was very quite, mainly due to the bad weather I think. Lovely site very clean, tidy and spacious. The facilities are good and kept clean at all times. We were shown to our pitch by a man on a tractor who stayed around to make sure we were pitched OK. There is a small shop and children’s room and play area but we did not use these. It was well patrolled and noise was not a problem.
Great site for families away from the main road and plenty of space for the kids
Have recommended this site to family and will definitely return.

After phoning loads of campsites to find somewhere for over the bank holiday weekend was a little apprehensive as what to expect but this site is fantastic. We were in an overflow field but to be honest I thought it was better, only downside was it had just been mown and the hay left behind but this added to the effect! There is a childrens games room and a small shop which sells all the essentials. Toilets and showers were kept very clean at all times and there were pot wash and washing machines. Also facilities to refreeze your ice packs which was great in the sunny weather. Didn't really venture far off the park but there is a Tesco nearby and some pubs and restaurants. The rubbish was collected daily by a tractor that emptied the bins but also went round the tents to take your rubbish and at night a warden drove round to make sure everything was ok. Will definitely go back to this site.

We stayed over the August bank holiday weekend with the intention of visiting friends and family in the area.
The two sites have now merged to become 'Bolton Homes and Detrongate', the owners are going through the process of integrating the sites' facilities.
Although the now 'main' entrance is accessed from the A road, the reception is towards the rear of the site, which proved difficult to find for many new arrivals and would benefit from better signage. To their credit however, the staff were stationed at the main entrance to welcome the heavy influx of campers on the Friday evening.
We camped in the tent field, which is slightly sloping in places but with plenty of space to find a level pitch and lots of space for games in the centre. We were surprised to see signs that the site was full as there seemed to be a large number of caravan pitches vacant and also plenty of room for more tents in the tent field. We soon came to realise that numbers were probably restricted due to the amount of showering facilities offered, which were always full and with queues on many occasions. We found the best time to go was mid afternoon, which might disrupt your day a little! If showering at peak times, be mindful that the water pressure is quite inadequate which often results in a combination of ice cold / scorching hot blasts. Many mums gave up with washing their youngsters for fear of them being hurt. I have heard that the site have plans to expand their facilities as their park expands.
As we have experienced with many large sites, the staff work tirelessly to maintain cleanliness in the toilet and shower facilities, but inconsiderate campers who do not clean up after themselves leave muddy footprints, dirty toilets and sinks which are difficult to keep up with and spoil the facilities for others. The situation was not helped by the large amount of mown grass being left in the field for campers to traipse into the toilet block.
We had a lovely walk into Carnforth via signposted ways, visiting the pub aptly named the Canal Turn, which has an outdoor terrace overlooking the busy waterway to the rear - A relaxing afternoon watching swans swim by.

Just come back from the bank holiday weekend stay. Our 1st time on this site and the price made it excellent value for money. We had superb pitches on field A overlooking the bay. There are several toilet / shower blocks around and all were always very clean. Although the site was busy, for a bank holiday it certainly was not overcrowded. The reception and small shop were all well run and very friendly. We would recommend this site for the value, cleanliness, friendly staff, superb views and local walks and is now on our list of local sites to revisit.

Fantastic site, very helpful and friendly staff. They gave us a pitch near the bottom of the field where the playground is, which was ideal as we have a 4 year old son, so we could sit at the tent and watch him have a free run to the playground and around the field. There is also a small games room with a couple of arcade games, air hockey table, pool table and table tennis. Showers and Toilets were always clean. Also had our two dogs with us so found lots of nice walks near the site. Will definitely be using this site again.
