Stayed for 4 nights at this site. It was extremely clean to a very high standard. Plenty of showers and toilet facility's. Great little park for kids. We pitch on the part near the park which was great as we could relax and also keep an eye on the kids. At night we played pool in the games room with other campers. Also table tennis. Nice day trips out to morecambe. Happy mount park bus ride away. Also tesco shopping centre a nice canal walk away 25 mins ish to get there. We will certainly be going again very soon as in july then august . All this for a great ten pounds a night. What more can yopu ask for. Owners very polite and friendly.

I'd visited Detrongate every year as a child from 1971 to 1978 so I persuaded my partner to make a nostalgic visit with me last year.
I've not been camping since 1981 and I was impressed at how tent design has improved over the years. No struggling with a frame tent anymore!

It seems that very little has changed at Detrongate over the years and to me that's a good thing. Prices are still low, the welcome is friendly and the shop and TV room is exactly the same as I recall the last time I visited as a 16 year old! Even many of the fruit machines are the same ones!

There has been some updating, notably to the showers and there are now electricity points provided. The site has been run by the same family since they purchased it in the 60s. The field we pitched in was the same that I camped in during the 70s and it was wonderful to be back. Not as many tents these days, but one of the owners informed me that camping is becoming more popular again. I've certainly got the bug again and we're looking forward to visiting Detrongate again soon.

We visited Detrongate for 3 nights for August Bank Holiday. We were using the site as a base to visit friends (I had driven past the campsite everyday for nine years on my way to work when we lived in the area). The campsite is a good basic campsite. The field we camped in was not the usual one for tents as the normal one was water logged, it was slopping but we managed.

There are 2 toilet/shower blocks which are old but clean - a new floor in the showers would be nice.

There is a small shop on sight run by a lovely lady who loves to tell you about the area. The campsite was mainly used by caravans and it has a number of static caravans but saying that we didn't feel out of place in our tent. I'm sure we will be back as it is a great location for us.

Detrongate is a nice campsite to spend a few nights. There is a wide array of things available in the shop, which is situated in the games building. There is a table tennis table (however the bats had been long worn out and there wasnt a lot of red and black left on them). The pool table was 20p a go and you have to pay a 50p deposit on the cues, so if you want to play when the shop is closed, you can't. There are some modern fruit machines that will keep you occupied and some old 1p games that look like they've been at the campsite for years! its a nice addition to "the campsite that time forgot" as it was referred to by the owners.

There are 2 fields for tents, One with a small play area and close to the shop and games building and another further along the road leading through the campsite. The field I stayed in near the shop was sloped, but if you positioned your tent right, you could get comfy easily. The facilities, as mentioned before, are quite dated and are in need of modernisation. However, they are usable.

All in all, detrongate is a good campsite in a good area and i'll definitely go again.

This is a lovely site and we'll definitely be back! Very childfriendly with little playarea, indoor TV, snooker and tabletennis area, not to mention the kiosk with an array of sweets and ice creams.....! And the lady who runs it with her son is ever so nice and friendly and full of info and directions to all sorts of places. The fields are the most lovely grass I've walked on in ages. The bottom shower and toilet block is rather dated but clean enough and works, and will soon be updated I was told. I'm quietly planning to go back for August bank holiday, weather permitting that is...!

 July 2004
My husband had stayed here as a child - and it seems the site hasn't changed much in 30 odd years! In same ownership too. Cost £2.50 a night for car with trailer, plus £1.25 each adult = £7.50 a night is about right for the facilities offered. Separate field for caravans there for the season. We use a tent with no electrics and were able to pitch anywhere we liked of the 3 fields. Not very busy weekend anyway.

Pitched at the top of a hill, mainly for the great views of surroundings. However do chose a pitch carefully as it was the windiest spot of all and one night was so windy we really felt like we were flying (a new experience in a tent!).

Mostly a site for older couples in their caravans who didn't bother us or make any noise, very quiet at night after 9 p.m. and we loved it! Sat watching the sun go down with a drink or three just 'chilling out'. Great! Children's play area welcomed by our 2 boys of 5 & 7. Site shop sells basics only including newspapers, games room with table tennis, pool, T.V. (not always on!), table football. 2 amenities blocks, 1 has w/machine & drier. Showers, toilets and sinks basic but spotlessly clean. 20p in the shower lasted ages!!

Nearest supermarket just up the road at Carnforth traffic lights, or opposite direction into Morecambe for Morrisons/Asda. Can walk to Carnforth by road but more scenic to use the canal path where we spotted much wildlife. The longboats are fascinating to watch too.

Only drawback to Detrongate Campsite could be the passing trains at all times of the day and evening. We didn't mind and the boys loved to see them but if you camp in the fields away from the entrance you may not even notice!

Used swimming pool at Morecambe (near ASDA) for £2.80 adults and £1.40 children, small pool for babies/learners, bubble pool and slide feature. Is also a sports centre and worth a look on a rainy day.
