June 2005 Despite the weather (!) ..not flaming June ..more like monsoon June .. we loved the campsite EVEN though we arrived on Friday 3rd June .. end of half term / bank holiday week and they were packed .. found ourselves a little spot under the trees ..unfortunately two young couple ..the campers from hell arrived later .intending to party all night .. wardens were excellent and they were slung out straight away.
Clean beutiful ..you can walk into the new forest from the site ..cycle if you bring your bikes ..pitch anywahere ..which can be a problem if the site is full. We are child free so in furute would turn up on a sunday evening when the weekenders were off .lovely forest commision site ..worth looking at their website for events they run in the forest .. we were taken round by a forester ..you can go on rspb trips.. deer spotting, out with a comoner etc etc. Wonderful things nearby if the weather is bad ..isle of wight ferry within half an hour, beulieuu ..(??) interesting tide mill ..
Other forestery commission campsites nearby. This one had all the facilities ..laundry. showers loos .some have none .take your own loos, but are tranquil spots ..will go again

August 2004 We often use this site when we visit my daughter who lives at Eastleigh. It is so handy, everything you need especially the nearby pub with a great garden on warm summer nights. Our first camping experience together was here in a very small dome tent. Got the tent up, sat in the twilight waiting for the kettle to boil for a cuppa, thinking how wonderful in the open air & peaceful. Then the train came through!, well on the main Southampton line just 100 yds away. We just laughed & soon got used to it. Watch out for the Forest ponies on the cadge for breakfast in the mornings. They come right in the tent nosing around. We even saw one with its hoof on a small tent knocking the door flap. Such fun!

August 2004 This is a loveley campsite and great if it is your first visit to the New Forest. There is acres of room to pitch and you can choose to camp wherever you want. The ponies run free everywhere but be careful not to leave food stuff un-attended as they will help themselves, as we found out early one morning when i awoke to see a white mare staring at me in my tent.
The reception sells the basics milk bread batteries etc but there are a few shops not 5 mins walk away. There is also a pub (aptly named the New Forest) right across the field so you do not even have to walk along the busy road to get to it. The only downside to this campsite is that it is situated far away from the real lovely towns in the forest but a short bus ride takes you into Lyndhurst and Lymington. Great place to stay!!!!

June 2004 What a lovely place. We visited at the beginning of June, the site was busy but very quiet (except for the train, which after a while you don't notice). The toilets and showers were spotless and the staff very friendly and helpful. Our two boys enjoyed exploring the forest and the horses roaming the site were lovely. A nice pub and shops a short walk away. Excellent site, we will be back.

August 2004 Lovely site - I agree with all of the above comments but just wanted to add that mid week in the summer there is a ranger-led evening walk from reception. If you fancy doing this book in advance (they don't tell you can do this) as it sells out quick!

May 2004 (and many times Years ago) I used to go here when I was a kid and had great memories. Went back with my kids this year and wasn't disappointed. It's nice and quiet, facilities are good and clean, it's got one of the best ratios of toilets & showers to pitches that I've come accross. It doesn't have a shop, but the site office does icepack freezing for a small charge, and there are plenty of shops in Ashurst (15 minutes walk away) including several takeaways, a SPAR which opens late, and a couple of pubs.
There's a good pub which backs onto the heath about 200 yds from the edge of the site.
The railway runs down one side of the site, I would pitch at the other side of the site where you can hardly hear it, but many people pitch right beside it so it can't be too noisy.
Ponies are allowed to roam the site so make sure you zip up well, and peg the tent flaps down as some of the ponies have learnt to undo zips!!!!!
Definitely recommend it and will be going back again regularly.

Aug 86, May 00, July 03 A quiet campsite in the New Forest. Plenty of walking and cycling to do. I recommend the walk to Lyndhurst following the trees to the left just outside the site gatehouse. The toilets are always kept clean and you don't have too many problems if it rains. You're not too far from Paultons Park, pubs/restaurant, takeaway and I believe you can hire bikes from a shop just outside the site (but don't quote me on that).

May2004 Excellent site and even though it was very busy being Bank Holiday weekend, at night it was very quiet. Good that you could pitch anywhere and as others have said, to escape the noise of the trains, pitch as far to the right as possible but saying that we pitched in the middle and they didn't really cause a problem. The only complaint that I would make are that there were only 6 showers per sex which at this time of the year is totally inadequate, but the facilities were claen and the site was spotless. If you have children they can run around to their hearts content or ride their bikes as most were doing and there is the lovely woods to go walking or cycling through right on site. There are also the ponies which wander amongst the tents which is a lovely site to see. Excellent site and just ignore the train.

April 2004 Ashurst Caravan and Camping Park is a neat campsite set in The New Forest. The facilities (which include toilets, showers, a dish washing area and a laundrette) are all in very good shape. They were always clean and tidy. The people running the site were wonderful, very cheerful and helpful. The only downside is that it is set in between a busy main road and a railway, so if you're after peaceful tranquility, I'd suggest looking for another site! However, if you're the sort of person who only uses a tent or caravan to sleep in and prefer exploring during the day, it's a good place to go. Actually, if you look at it like that, then it's an excellent campsite to stay at, because there is a bus stop and train station only a few minutes away!

August 2003 Brilliant! Lovely site, good facilities and handily placed for pubs.
Plenty of space between pitches. Ponies and donkeys are cute but be careful where you put your rubbish or you'll find it scattered around the site!!
