July 2003 Very enjoyable with clean and plentiful washing facilities. Close to several child orientated attractions. Only advice is to beware the forest ponies - one of which barged its way into seveval tents while we were there (ours included!) The squirrels were not shy either.

July 2003 I really enjoyed my 2 nights at Ashurst. The area is large and was very busy when we arrived (about 3pm on a Friday). By 7pm the site was nearly full.
Clean and fairly large shower/block.
Short walk to a local pub, although beer not too good. Additionally only 2.5 miles to Lyndhurst (a short cycle) for more pubs and restaurants if required.
All in all I would visit again

July 2003 As a group of 12, having never camped before we were a little unsure of what to expect.... We LOVED it! Fantastic place, friendly staff & clean facilities. We decided to camp near the railway line as we knew we could be a bit noisy. The freight train at 4.30am did wake a couple of us up, but it was worth it not to disturb the other campers with our shennanigans!, There seemed to be a real cross section of people, families, couples, "professional" campers & caravanners. There was more than enough room for everyone. We are definately going back!

May 2003 We arrived at 12pm on Bank Holiday weekend, to find a cheerful welcome and individual attention. The site is very special in many ways: exceptionally clean, beautifully situated, plenty of personal space even when full, and it attracted some great campers!! The level of security on site was also surprising but welcome: daily ranger patrols, and when one group had a particularly noisy night, they were spoken to! We will definately return to this site, and also visit other Forestry sites around the country.

may 2003 we live in portsmouth and come to this campsite on weekend getaways.its a lovly campsite but beware if camping in a tent as the horses will come in to your tent for your food! gnats are abundant due to the horses and cows but still the area and campsite are worth it

This was our first ever experience of camping as a family (of 5). My husband pitched the tent before I arrived and as it was the Sat of Bank Holiday had problems finding a quiet spot. He settled in the over night area and after 2 1/2 hours of putting up the tent I arrived and a train promptly went past 15ft from the tent.
The trains are close but the site is otherwise peaceful and just what we wanted for a first time. The children loved the horses. I wish we had taken their bikes as they were the only ones without one.
The showers were always clean but there could be a long wait at "peak times". The younger couple running the place were exceptionally friendly.
This area of the country is outstanding and we will be going again in the Summer but perhaps putting the tent to the far right of the site, away from the railway line. Oh and the stagnant stream -my husband got bitten to death by midges.

This is a great camp site, situated at the entrance of the New Forest. It's a stones throw to Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst.
The campsite itself is staggering distance to local pubs and shops.
The ponies roam free and you can see deer in the woods.
The shower block is extremely clean and there are plenty of them.
We always go to Ashurst, it's a great way to relax as its really peaceful.
An excellent weekend retreat!
