July 2005 Based on my 10 night stop. Good Points : Walks from site are great Mewslade Bay beach is a gem so is Rhossilli. Site never felt crowded even when site full sign was displayed. Staff very helpful and friendly with local information. Shop was well stocked with everything you could expect of a camp site shop. Washing up facilities plenty of hot water and undercover. Worms head hotel (Pub) at Rhossilli.was good for food and view from lounge is spectacular. Shop and facilities at Scurlage were good especially swimming pool good for rainy days. Toilets generally clean. Childrens playground a real hit.
Bad points: Shower block cramped and inadequate for the size of the site. Two large parties were using the site and 4/5 showers not enough for whole site. Regular quesues developed. Family area is the furthest from the toilet/shower block - better off nearer the shop.Could do with another toilet/shower block for size of site. Its a long way to walk a young child to the loo. Big groups generally spoilt the show - were noisy and quiet times not adhered to. Don't expect it quiet at 8 in the family area and 10 in other areas. There was no recycling facilities I felt guity binning everything what do our overseas visitors think? No horse riding for kids locally any more at local farm. What a shame.
Overall site was satisfactory room for improvement.

June 2005 Visited the Gower for the weekend and found this site through ukcampsite reviews which were generally good. Roger Button the owner is a friendly chap and always at hand if needed. The site has some pitches with lovely views across the bay and others are more sheltered but pretty much all are flat! Excellent shower/toilet facilities and only a couple of minutes walk from any of the six fields available to pitch in. The shop is adequate and the local shop isnt too far. Visited Rhosilly Beach for the day which was expansive and clean but be prepared for the climb back up the cliff at the end of the day! An excellent site with a small childrens playground to boot! Recommended!

June 2005 Hello all! We spent 3 days at Pitton Cross last weekend (between 17-20 June) and had an absolutely brilliant time. We are relatively new to camping, but we loaded up the car and arrived at Pitton Cross at around 7.30 and were surprised at the very kind welcome we had from the 2 people who were taking care of the shop. We drove round the fields to find a nice spot (which to be honest wasn't difficult at all) and settled for a quiet one in one of the bigger fields. Despite the campsite being full, there was still plenty of room! It was quite surprising really.
On Saturday we walked down to Romsgrove and were completely in awe at the natural beauty surrounding us. While it was not the easiest of walks down to the bay it was very pretty and definitely worth it. The paths were very well signposted and had various different paths to choose from, dependent on how fit you were feeling I guess! We managed to capture some gorgeous pictures of the area, especially of the cliffs and greenery.
Saturday afternoon was far too hot to do very much, so we went into Port Eynon for lunch at the Ship Inn, we were the only two inside as we got there mid afternoon (around 2ish) and everyone else was sat outside in the beer garden. Beware of the narrow roads winding down into Port Eynon, and also pedestrians too...there are limited pavements in this area! Sunday we went to Rhossili Bay and enjoyed a fabulous walk to Worm's Head, although we were a little too close to the tide times to be able to cross over to it safely, we spent a little while there taking pictures and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. We were fortunate enough to walk back to the main car park in time before the sea fog rolled in! Some were not so lucky, and I doubt whether they got as many great photos. The fog was quick to clear, but arrived even quicker so please be careful as tehre are very steep cliffs around this area!
After lunch we went to have a go at archery at Perriswood, which was very cheap - only £5.00 per half hour, and definitely worth a go! Friendly instructors and a cool place to hide from the glaring sun.
Oxwich castle is also a gorgeous place to visit, although not one of the largest nor grandest castles we have visited, it was very picturesque, and steeped in history. Well worth a visit.
In the last year that we have been going camping, we have stayed at Hill End, Kennoxstone and Llanmadoc. While nothing can rival the sunset we were very fortunate to see at Llanmadoc Pitton Cross had everything else that you need for a relaxing weekend away.
Our final night was spent walking down through the village of Pitton Cross and to Mewslade Bay, as the sun was setting we enjoyed a romantic stroll on the beach and saw some amazing wildlife too. Another long walk to this beach, but less cruel! Well worth it though. We would definitely recommend this campsite to campers old and new, beats the others hands down!

June 2005 Arriving late we were left to choose our own pitch in the family area(a late comers board would be helpful) .If this happens to you DONT choose the field with the area the kids have 'coned out'for games as all the sites children congregate here. We found the site to be clean with reasonable size/level pitches. Please be warned if you choose a family area they are a long way from the toilet/shower block(which is basic but clean).
The play area is very good(dont expect clean kids when they return). The people who run this site obviously work very hard to maintain what is a very family friendly site. The area is outstandingly beautiful with many storm beaches, coves and walks for all ages and fitness levels nearby.

July 2004 Summary, excellent site well worth visiting.
Had a fabulous week here.
Very friendly site, adequately stocked shop and another shop nearby (with superb butchers meat for barbeques).
Horse riding just across the road up Rhossilli hill. Good fun even for the complete novice.
Lots of lovely walks to two local beaches/coves. Mewslade is probably the best, very very clean with sand (when the tide goes out a bit) and caves to explore. Never got too busy either.
Rhossilli beach is close by and spectacular.
The toilet block was a fair walk but this was not a problem.

April 2004 Stayed at Pitton Cross for 2 nights and would thoroughly recommend it. Flat pitches, sea views and plenty of walking from the campsite - including access to the coast path. The walk to the top of Rhossili Downs gives fantastic views! Toilets / showers clean with plenty of free hot water. One word of warning - when the wind comes in from the South it is pretty breezy and therefore pitching in the shelter of the hedges around the field is a good option. We didn't do this and one night was quite scary!

23 January 2004 contribution from Roger Button owner at Pitton Cross.
Firstly thanks to those who have taken the time to review our site. All comments are extremely valuable and where appropriate will be acted upon. 2003 was an extremely busy season for us and exposed a few weaknesses in the system. Areas that needed addressing were :
1 The children¡¦s play ground has been relocated, with new equipment and a height restriction.
2 We will use contract cleaners to augment the current cleaning regime in order to maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness at all times.
3 Improved sign-posting information on arrival should alleviate the problems associated with customers having to find things out the hard way.
4 Food in the shop is a very difficult issue, for a number of reasons
* We try to keep a basic range of foodstuffs. * We do support our local village shop which we need 52 weeks of the year. * With so many people using the big supermarkets at Swansea it's difficult to please everyone. Also we can't compete with them on price * At the end of the school holidays what¡¦s left on the shelves you have to use yourselves. 5 We do work very long hours in the peak period as Graham has suggested and do apologise for any inconvenience caused however with increased staffing levels we will endeavour to do better and only your continued comments will tell us if we are doing thus.
6 We have completely revamped our website for this year with lots of local info and hopefully a regular newsletter of up-to-date events and happenings.

Aug 2003 This was our first camping experience and we were pleasantly surprised. Although the camp site was busy there was plenty of room between the pitches. We were located on the family field which did mean a couple of minutes walk to the washing and toilet facilities.
The facilites available were more than adequate with hot water and plenty of shower cubicles. They even catered for my 18 month old with childs bath.
On arrival we were shown to our pitch, but there was no explanation of the facilites available, we had to find these out as we went along.
This did not detract from a lovely week with stunning views and a friendly enviroment. We would definately stay there again.

August 2003 We (2 adults, + 9 & 11 year old girls) went to this site during the week leading up to August Bank holiday. The following is our impression of the site during that week.
LOCATION This site is in a superb location. The Gower scenery is spectacular, the beaches idyllic, but, despite this and being relatively close to a major city, it feels far from crowded, even during peak season.
If you enjoy walking, then there are numerous paths along an extremely picturesque coastline. The site itself is located relatively close (closest - 20 minute walk) to many beaches that will cater for most interests. They range from large sandy beaches with a swimming area supervised by lifeguards, to secluded coves accessible only by foot (Dogs are excluded from some beaches at certain times of year). If the beaches and coastline don’t keep you occupied then there are many activities both on the Gower, or in Swansea as are a range of pubs, restaurants etc although none are within easy walking distance of the site.
THE SITE & FACILITIES Toilets, washbasins, showers, dishwashing and laundry facilities are all available onsite and we only experienced a very short wait for the showers and laundry at peak times. Hot water is included in the price and remained hot on all the occasions we used it.
Before I went, I wasn’t sure what other reviewers meant by ‘basic’ facilities. I would now interpret this as meaning that the facilities used to be old farm buildings, which have been converted with attention to function rather than aesthetics. Also, I would describe the facilities as hygienic, as long as you don’t look too closely or breathe too deeply, particularly as the week went on.
Food is available from the camp shop (minimal range), a shop in a nearby village or, if you are willing to travel further, then there are many Supermarkets in Swansea.
ON ARRIVAL Reception is in the camp shop and when we arrived it was clearly the end of a long day for the man serving. Although polite, he simply asked for payment for the nights we were staying and lead us to a pitch close to the entrance. We subsequently discovered that there was an area for families, an area where dogs were prohibited and a field more remote from the main camping area. It would have been good to receive this information on arrival, as, had we known, then we would have located our tent elsewhere on the site.
OVERALL An excellent location with adequate facilities, good views and it was as quiet as any site I have been to. Toilets could do with more regular cleaning, and more information would have been helpful on arrival. Overall I would recommend the site and anticipate returning in the future.
