We have stayed here on several occasions, both as campers and caravanners and I thought it was worth making a couple of comments this time around.
The fact that we have returned here several times tells you that we have historically found this site to be good. Having said that, we go for the location not the site: the majority of large campsites on the Gower are awful and whilst this is OK, it isn't in the top league of sites by quite some distance.
The site is quite well laid out with several discrete fields most of which seem to have some electrical hookups. Pitches are marked and are of a reasonable size but are not huge. Indeed, this year the site felt rather crowded, but more on that later.
The site is not the most beautiful we have visited. The gravel roads and hard-standing areas coupled with the occasional derelict-looking caravan (I believe the site has annual pitches) detract from the overall appearance of the site.
The only exception to this had, until this year, been the 'stone circle field'. However, this year they have gravelled a road through this field and this has had three effects: the field is no longer so attractive, there is little room for children to play things like football and cricket, and the pitches now have a boundary at the front.
This means that some people take to parking their cars in the middle of the field which further detracts from its appeal and the space for kids to play. This creates a feeling of being jammed in somewhat and I feel they have made a fairly significant mistake with the new road. From conversations with other regulars, this seems to be the general view.
The facilities are adequate. In the past they have not been especially clean despite the comments in the reviews found here. Last year there was no evidence of the male showers being cleaned for a full fortnight (I observed a large sticking plaster on the floor of one of the showers on our first day and it was still there two weeks later). This year, things were better and I have no grumbles on this score.
The staff/family are generally fairly helpful. However, from time to time they do show a rather unfortunate manner when dealing with customers. I have witnessed a few conversations that have left me shaking my head.
Beware the last two weeks in July! The campsite hosts a large Christian youth group in one of the spare fields. This is not a problem in terms of the facilities and the kids themselves are very pleasant. However, this is an organised camp that uses klaxons to call people to dinner, has an in-house rock band and regular singalongs from about 9 P.M. Peaceful and quiet they are not.
This isn't a bad place. Indeed, it is the best campsite with facilities that we have found on the Gower, but I can't wholeheartedly recommend it.

A good site - level pitch with hook up which was the biggest we'd ever been on. Staff friendly, shop could be more camper orientated and less of a souvenir shop given the limited outlets nearby.
Facilities clean and well maintained with constant hot water. Not enough dish washing sinks (4) for the size of the site though. Major downside was the constant strong winds which lash the site and also prevent sitting comfortably on the beach.
Too many hours sleep lost to the tent flapping to ever want to go back again.

Arrived late evening and was given a choice of pitches. We got a massive pitch with electric hook up. All pitches are flat.
The facilities are well kept and clean but all in one place so depending on where you pitch it could be a long walk, albeit fresh water taps are well spread across the site.
Its got a lovely shop that sells every thing for the beach but only the bare essentials as far as food goes. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
If you need to stock up on provisions, including alcohol, go to the Texaco Garage in Knelston, they sell just about everything and are cheaper than Tesco in Swansea!
This is a great site in the middle of nowhere but with the beautiful Rossilli Bay/Worms Head just a mile or so away, the steps down to the beach are not for the faint hearted.
A quick walk for 1.5 miles takes you to Mewslade Bay (we felt like 'Swiss Family Robinson'), what a beautiful and wild place.
A short drive and your at Oxwich Bay. Parked on the beach! Brilliant. Even closer is Port Eynon With parking close to the beach but we favoured Oxwich.
We'd go again but bare in mind that the south west coast of Wales can be a bit damp, cool and windy, as it was for us, when the rest of the country was in the grip of a heatwave.

Absolutely lovelysite.
There was a large group of us; 5 tents, 2 dogs and 11 adults & we were made to feel most welcome. We were pitched together in a flat well hedged paddock containing 10 pitches altogether.
Showers & toilets were spotless.
Shop on site sells pretty much everything you could possibly need at reasonable prices too.
The view of the stars as you walk back from the loos to your tent at 2am is simply stunning. Well worth the chilly walk.
Would have been going back there August bank holiday this year if they had room. Would definitely recommend the site to all.

This was a great site - well laid out, not overly squashed in and the staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived in hideous weather and they were very helpful and even offered to help us!
The shop was very well stocked and had a good supply of all weather toys for the kids.
The showers were always hot and the toilets very clean
I gave it 6/10 for location only because you have to drive everywhere as there is not really anything within easy walking distance if you have young children.
The nearby beaches are all brilliant and have excellent facilities for all
It was however great for us as we had no small ones. The cliff and beach walks were challenging and within a stone throw from the site.
The surrounding area was great - spectacular scenery and plenty to do.
Would definitely go back to this site again

Pitton Cross is a very clean site with well laid out pitches with electric hook up and water close by,the showers are clean and tidy with plenty of hot water. The shop is well stocked and the staff very helpful and friendly.
The walk from the campsite to Rhossili along the coast path is amazing and not too tricky(take a bottle of water). Rhossili has a fabulous beach, must be the best in Wales.
The only down side about campsite we thought was a bit pricey as we have paid the same amount with site with clubhouse and pool. Will return as the views are spectacular

Its heartening to find sites as good as this! Spent 3 nights here (was 2 but added another cos we liked it so much). Staff are very friendly and helpful, site shop is an incredible cornucopia of useful things. Facilities were excellent, although some distance away if you chose one of the outer fields. Hard standings for motorhomes are in the first two fields, and you get a lovely sea view from some pitches.
The site does, however, catch the wind in a big way - that's why they also run a Kite centre! This was offset by the fact that they have created well-marked paths direct to the coast, which is under a mile away, and quite fantastic. Couldn't recommend it more for anyone who loves the landscape.

This was our first visit to this part of the Gower and we had wanted to visit 'The Worms Head' in Rhossili so this campsite seemed perfectly situated.
The first thing I was impressed with was their website. The on line booking form is good as it will show you at a glance when plots are available.
The actual site is very nice. The people at reception were very friendly and helpful. The nice lady took us to our pitch (after making a fuss of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who tolerated the fussing with the usual over enthusiasm native to the breed!)
The weather was hot so there were no issues with a boggy pitch. As others have said, the showers were clean and hot, the shop sold some surfy type stuff, bodyboards, paddles, wetsuits etc and some basic foodstuffs.
The site has areas with hookup, dog and non doggy areas and a small playground for the kids. Large hedges separate some of these area's which adds a bit of privacy.
The big beach at Rhossili and Worms head was a couple of miles down the road, 5 mins in the car or a longer walk along the coast from the campsite.
There are two other routes from the campsite to small coves, all marked (actually, colour coded stiles in hedges). One route took us through a farm where there was a fridge and freezer standing outdoors that stocked ice cream, eggs some fresh farm veggies, milk etc and just an honesty box to put the cash.
We will definitely be going back. It isn't the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Go for it.

Camped at Pitton Cross for the first time last weekend(2/7/10) the pitches were level and roomy, the shop was well stocked with everyday items and other stuff you wouldn't normally get in a site shop, the owners were well organised and very welcoming, they also had a broad knowledge of the area and were more than helpful.
The showers were clean and hot at all times of the day with no queueing and the toilets were well stocked with toilet paper and soap. My only gripe was that there was no drinking water tap in our field, but it wasn't that far from our pitch.
Rhosilli is just up the road and is a nice little walk, in Scurlage there is a chippy a pub and a convenience store, we loved the site and will definitely be back

We are normally tent users, but borrowed my parents campervan for 5 days just before half term.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, the facilities brilliant. Although not a small site, this is not a particularly big one either, but there are a lot of clean toilets, sinks and showers (male and female) and plenty of washing up / laundry facilities available as well.
Nice quiet site with great views. Well stocked shop and information centre.
The walks along the cliffs to the beaches are fantastic.
We don't have any children so are unable to comment on the play area etc.
We have recommended this site to our families and friends, and my parents have already been to stay as a result (they even got the same pitch as us!).
We will definitely stay here again.
