Visited the site for the first time. Site clean and not too large and crowded. Reception area very good and shop very good. Dog walk very good. Toilets excellent Showers - in need of upgrade. For 4 star site the worst I have used. They definitely let the site down. Overall good site but showers need an upgrade.

As many of the other reviewers have said this is a very professionally run site. It's not big, but it is managed like a swanky hotel. The owners are very friendly and obliging and every little detail has been thought about carefully.
The ladies toilets were impeccably presented with floral displays, air freshener and in the private wash cubicles, a seat in front of the vanity unit and spa-type pump dispensers of liquid soap and body lotion.
The separate shower block was slightly older, and not quite as well presented - having said that the hot water was plentiful and even though I have long hair my 20p lasted long enough to wash and rinse my hair and condition it too. Still ten times better than some sites I have visited!
The pitches in the tent field are huge and are marked out with ropes. Disappointingly, despite having telephoned to reserve two tent spaces, we were told on arrival that this doesn’t guarantee that those spaces are next to one another and the pitches left available were somewhat remote. My friend and I each had our own tents and we managed to erect both of them on one pitch, saving us money but also avoiding splitting up. I did find this odd, given that they go so far as to ‘check in’ like a hotel with registration forms etc & have a computerised reservations system – surely people booking together would want to be together?!
We didn’t have children or a dog with us so didn’t explore the ‘dog walk’ or ‘ball games field’ although it was nice to see that they had been provided.
They have a computer linked to the internet available to use at a cost in reception and all of the site is WiFi enabled, again at a cost. The small but perfectly formed shop carried just about everything you could want including some very nice wines, disposable BBQ’s and of course …..those homemade cakes! Yum
The only negatives other than not providing adjacent pitches were: A horrid smelling cigarette-filled ashtray at face level outside the ladies loo, the facilities are non-smoking so this was to encourage ladies to stub out before entering but meant you got a face-full of the ash aroma – yuk!
A steepish, long walk to the toilets – not too bad during the day but extremely arduous in the middle of the night, could use a separate small toilet block on the field (even a basic non-plumped chemical toilet would be a godsend at 4am!)
The site itself is quite remote which is lovely in one respect but the only pub close-by is a long trek down extremely precarious, unlit private roads. We actually drove to the pub as it would have been quite worrying finding our way back late at night. In warm weather the pub isn’t a problem, but now the cooler nights are drawing in and it’s less attractive to sit around the campfire, campers would benefit from having somewhere on-site or close-by to congregate.
Overall a very nicely kept site, if a little regimented, that is ideally located to explore the region. Would be perfect for first-time campers as the familiar sight of a ‘reception’, ‘information point’ and ‘shop’, might be comforting for newbies as they make their transition from the luxury of hotels to basic rawness of camping.

August 2005 My husband and I spent 4 nights over the August Bank Holiday weekend in our tent, and had a fantastic time. The top field has a beautiful walk following a stream up a hillside, and the views are amazing. All facilities were very good - the ladies toilet block was very clean, with 4 toilets, and the 4 cubicles with basins, mirrors and hand wash and moisurising cream was very welcome ! The shower block was fine, the shop was well stocked, and my husband was pleased he could order his newspaper for his daily read ! I was pleased to see the campsite encourages recycling, and the small playground and ball game areas were useful for kids. Our pitch for a 4 man tent was huge, just a little stony for getting the pegs in, in places, and that was my only gripe. We both want to return again ! P.S. The Old Hall Inn in Threshfield does excellent food !!!

August 2005 Lovely looking site with great views. But 1 key between 4 for the toilets was a pain esp as they are quite a walk from the tent field. Also loads of midges(people wearing hats and hoods up to stop them)and a rat in ours, and others tents in the night. Apart from this we enjoyed our stay and the area is beatiful. No pub to walk to but the shop provides all your basic needs-in our case beer and cakes.

July 2005 The most peaceful and scenic site we have ever been to. Homemade baking in shop a dream, staff bend over backwards to help, toilets very very clean and fresh flowers in them.
Top camping field with elec surrounded by beautiful woodland, and a lovely further camping area with lovely views. Facilities locked for security and also because of public footpath through the site so don't want 100 ramblers joining you! Very good idea.
Will definitely be back infact husband already booked another 3 visits this year.

May 2005 Very nice site, good shop and facilities. Toilet and shower block are good and kept nice and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Electric pitches are on quite a slope although non-electric pitches are in a seperate field that looks a bit flatter. Only gripe is the distance from the pitches to the toilets could be better.

May 2005 My husband and I stayed over the bank holiday weekend. The site is within a glorious setting. The owners were exceedingly friendly and made every effort to ensure our stay was great.
The facilities were spotless and the shop was well stocked with beer and sausages - my husband was a happy man!
We will definitely be going again.

June 2005 Got in here at a last minute. The owbers are really nice and helpful. Had our pick of pitches. Shop very well stocked but short opening hours. Plenty to do (walks) and a very well stocked information hut. My tw children (3 & 6) could expell plenty of energy in the fields and small park. Would definitely go again.
