We stayed here earlier this month and loved it. It was fairly busy when we arrived, being (the very end of) the school holidays, but we still managed to find a pitch that we were happy with (there’s no marked pitches, you simply pitch anywhere you like, as long as you’re at least 7m from the next tent).
However, by the Sunday/Monday it was much quieter – there were only a handful of tents plus a few motorhomes. Can’t imagine the toilet blocks ever had queues – even when we arrived and it was fairly busy at the site there weren’t any queues.
They have a nice big indoor room for washing up / cooking when the weather is bad. Everything seemed to be kept pretty clean.
The best bit is the location – right by the beach (all the kids there looked to be having a whale of a time), and the site itself is very spread out, with lots of sand dunes and little hills which make lots of separate little areas, so you never feel hemmed in by other tents. It does mean, though, that some pitches are a bit of a walk to the toilet block! There’s no light pollution so the night skies are fantastic.
Only point to note is that the ground is very sandy (or at least it was where we were, right by the sand dunes) which means that tent pegs come out quite easily. We had some really good storm pegs but they still came out a few times when the wind picked up, particularly once the ground got wet as well.

Really enjoyed our week here. Found all facilities very good: well stocked shop, bins emptied regularly, toilets/showers clean and working well. Family shower room was useful. All the staff we met were friendly & helpful, which is always nice. Good play park for kids (don't camp near it if you don't have any, can go on a bit in light NW Highland nights). Loads of space to find your ideal pitch. While not too bad the week we were there, it could get very midgey, so pack lots of Avon oil. Beach was great & dune jumping got me joining in with the wee jimandalis. All in all, a very good site. Will be back.

What a fantastic site.
We spent a wet and windy week here in July 2010 and just loved it. The sandy soil meant that we were never too wet underfoot although the roads at the bottom end near the dunes flooded a little at times.
Great beach and a very shallow bay perfect for swimming or playing in the water - even better for swimming in the sea in the pouring rain !
Good shop. Clean toilets and plenty of showers. Never had to queue. It's a long drive to get there but well worth the effort.

If you are camping without EHU, the ability to just arrive and find your ideal spot in the dunes is a fantastic idea, however if like us you arrive in the pouring rain and have to search around the site for a free EHU that is not too close to other units then its not ideal. We ended up in probably the least preferred pitches where the ground was very boggy.
This site is massive, some of the pitches can be quite a trek to the loos but then again that can be a good thing as well.
The advertised wifi does not cover the entire site and we were not far from the buildings. It should also be noted that you won't pick up digital radio either though not everyone will care too much about this.
The campsite shop is the best we've experienced stocking everything from camping essentials, wet suits and body boards to newspapers and fresh bread every day. 10/10 for the shop. The staff are also very helpful.
The play park is located in the center of the dunes and is great for the kids. Emily gives it a 9/10
Gairloch itself is lovely with plenty shops for any supplies not found on site. Check out the local butchers for great BBQ produce! Also the bookshop / cafe for great cakes! Our kids really enjoyed going on the creel fishing trip. It's less expensive than the whale trips and they are pretty sure of not only seeing but handling all kinds of critters brought up from the bottom!
While the location and the remoteness of this site is its biggest asset, it can also be one of its failings. If the weather is good and you get the right pitch then a wonderful holiday awaits. However, if like us you get bad weather, there's not a great deal to do in the area. We were confined to tents on a couple of occasions and ended leaving a day early - a first for us but there's only so much rain you can take!

On our visit we found the campsite to be very relaxed. Tents are able to pitch anywhere on the site so long as they are no closer than 7m to the next tent. The ground was not flat with it being sand dunes but we were able to find a suitable area very quickly.
The play park was great. We hardly saw our kids as they were there all the time - what a shame! The park is suitable for the very young and much older child as well.
The toilets and showers were adequate and there was a larger shower area for taking the kids in which was useful. The only thing that I grumbled was that the staff did not keep to the cleaning times as stated on the door and a few times I found the toilets to be closed - once at lunch time which was not good!
During our visit the weather was dreadful. We had a weather warning for strong winds and lots of heavy rain which made outdoor activities very difficult. With a 3 and 5 year old this was a bit of a problem as we struggled to entertain the kids. This is nothing against the campsite but something to bear in mind when visiting the area.
The campsite shop was fantastic. It was extremely well stocked with food, drinks, papers, toys and a whole camping section! You can even buy a tent in there!
In short a lovely site, by a beautiful beach, which we would definitely visit again providing the weather was good! Seek out Red point beach for a change of beach as it is stunning.

This is a fantastic site for comfortable wilderness! You can camp where you want and it is more than generously spaced out so no need to intrude or be intruded upon by your neighbours. There are lots of sheltered spots. The beach is 30 second walk and although it was a warm evening when we were there there was only 2 other people on the beach.
The shower and toilet block was clean and there is a campers kitchen which only has a hob for £1 for 20mins and the sinks but useful if it's too cold/windy to cook outside. It's not really within walking distance (well we couldn't be bothered anyway) of pubs but I didn't want to leave the site on the evening.
It is also worth going on a whale watching trip with hebridiean whale cruises on orcha 1 (the fun boat), we didn't see any whales but we saw over 80 dolphins with their calves many of which we swimming right next to the boat and everyone who had been onthe trip in the past 2 weeks had seen whales we were just unlucky.

Stayed here on a stop of a west coast of Scotland motorbike tour. Had a great spot camping up in the dunes and we were able to have a campfire on the beach. The site is huge, but was not that busy so it felt more like wild camping, facilities are brilliant and very clean, shop is very very well stocked, was even able to buy an extra sleeping bag as it was much colder that May should have been!
Would recommend this for kids as there are tons of open space and the beach is gorgeous. I will be back

Enjoyed our time at this site which was unfortunately cut short due to the high winds. Lots of room to choose from when pitching/parking up and good site shop.
Good play area for kids and a great beach. There were three toilet blocks all were well maintained as were the laundry rooms. Staff very helpful. Never got the chance to explore the surrounding area but would return to this site in better weather to do so.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at this site. After a friendly check in at the reception, we headed off to find a pitch, big decision there as the place is huge! There's loads of dunes, some with picnic tables, which is great for campers to find a bit of shelter from the really windy weather that was constant while we were there. The on site shop is very well stocked, its also licensed so no need to drive into town if you run out of wine! There's plenty of toilets, good laundry facilities and a motorhome service point. A short walk from any part of the site will take you over the dunes and onto a lovely beach. We found it to be very reasonably priced paying £16.50 for two adults in a camper with EHU in August. We would have stayed longer but the wind and the rain was non stop and showed no sign of letting up. For folks preferring not to brave the winds they rent out Wigwams and statics to. Would definitely use again.

Quite simply an outstanding site. Great location, outstanding views from the spacious dune area, loads of room to pitch, big distances between pitches, excellent and plentiful toilet and shower facilities, very clean, serviced regularly, kids play areas, games room, visiting chippie van, well stocked shop which is open all day, very helpful staff.
The lovely beach is less than 100 metres from the site. The town is a short drive - a couple of miles away and there is plenty to do and explore there too - even a golf course nearby.
This was my first visit and I was very impressed - in fact I have no negatives to say about the place - I will be back.
