Excellent site with excellent weather ! How lucky we were!
We are used to regimented sites however at The Sands, you decide where to pitch as long as you are 7 metres away from the next camper. After a tour around the site, we pitched near the top, with fantastic views of the bay and surrounding area over the top of the dunes
The toilet block near our pitch had been refurbished last year, which now matched the other toilet blocks. It was spotlessly clean at all times and had family shower facility as well as another room with a bath.
The Barn cafe was open, although still some joinery work going ahead, this did not impact us at all. Great choice of food at all times, breakfast, lunch and evening meals, great chef. Takeaway on offer and lots of cakes on view.
Shop was well stocked and you could avoid going to the local supermarket as everything on site. Can hire canoes etc. Lots of information on the board- walk highlands website info for the area laminated and weather information
Dog walking facilities on site - enclosed area and very clean. It would be great to have a dog bin specifically next to the dog walking area instead of us using the refuse bins.
There is also a 2km circular walk across from the site, again enclosed, so could let off the dogs as sheep in another field. Great views from the top of the hill, halfway mark.
Although we did not have any children with us, there is a large play area near the tenting area which was well used.
Beach was amazing. Clean, clear water and plenty of space for everyone
Highland Wifi is available but I felt this was a bit expensive i. E £2. 99 for one hour and goes up in increments
Very friendly place with all caravan and campers ready for a chat or a hello
Overall a great site, to suit all ages and abilities. Dogs loved it and we loved the easy going and relaxed atmosphere and will be back.

A wonderful site with immaculate facilities in three blocks spaced throughout the large site. Free hardryer in ladies, or sockets for your own. Laundry facilities in one block. The block nearest the area probably most favoured by tents has a campers kitchen and 'relax in the dry' area with a great communal feel. Ehus randomly dotted about the grassy areas, no regimented feel to this site at all. Even hardstanding pitches not too regimented. Non ehu could pitch up anywhere - and it is mainly level. Excellent well stocked shop at reception entrance, not overpriced at all, the cafe was closed for refurb. Lovely beach just over the dunes, which do act as a windbreak. Also good children's play area. Gairloch has good facilities, with excellent coffee and plum scones to die for at Coffee Mountain. Sadly, we only had one night, could have stayed longer.

This is an excellent site where they have spent a considerable sum of money to provide a campsite with very good facilities.
Clean beach and good walking in surrounding areas. The campsite restaurant was not open due to refurbishment but I hear it is of a very high standard.

Fantastic site, beautiful location, loads of room and top class facilities - the best I have seen.
Firstly the site - after checking in we were invited to choose our own spot within the several acres available. Soon found a level spot with a commanding view over the dunes to the sea, with Skye beyond. A good level pitch with electric hook up on firm sandy soil which didn't get muddy despite some rain.
We were spoilt for choice with the facilities; all of the blocks were open. The nearest (at the top of the site) was very roomy, warm and immaculately clean, with a choice of showers and baths. No piped music thankfully. Quite simply the best facilities that I have used on a campsite.
A very child and dog friendly site; loads of room, and a beautiful beach just beyond the dunes. Good play area.
Gairloch is just a couple of miles down the road, with quite a selection of shops. The heritage museum is well worth a look.

This site has it all - great facilities, amazing beach, a cafe and a shop. Myself and my 8 year old love this site, we will be back soon!
The ground held up well on a night of really heavy rain, I had been a bit worried about parking on grass when we arrived in torrential rain but it drained away really quickly. There is a big room for campers to shelter and cook in bad weather. The dunes shelter the campsite very well though.

What a great location! The only thing that separates you from the beach is the sand dunes - which do offer a bit of shelter from the wind!
Unlike others sites its a bit of a free parking set-up, which can work well. The shop is well stocked and the cafe was good (we only used it once for evening meals).
Site was clean and a perfect place to let the children run free. Good play area, no main roads, beach is safe, etc. Beach was clean and even the dog walking area was kept clean by everyone. The newly refurbished (?) toilet block is a standard for others to meet - open, clean and various shower options from singles to bath to multi / family areas.
We had a really good time here (weather was cack!) and would certainly come back. Kids just loved it!

Third visit to Sands Caravan and Camping and as in previous years the site lived up to expectations. The toilets are always clean and tidy, shop is always well stocked and reasonably priced, staff are cheerful and helpful. We were delighted to find that The Barn Cafe on site catered well for people with dietary allergies, for our daughter who is wheat intolerant, there was plenty of choice and they were only to happy to sell us Gluten free bread rolls for our lunches as well. We will be back again in future years although probably less of us as the kids are all leaving home to do their own thing but they will probably return themselves in years to come.

Sands is amazing.
A lovely beach front location, on a couple of miles to charming gairloch.
There is so much space, and you park where you want! It's quite a sporadic set up- which I like!
The facilities are the best I've used, spotless, ever flowing hot water and a great littleshop.
I stayed for two nights with the aim of going on a whale watching tour. Sadly these were fully booked, so I left but was so happy to return a few days later!
The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
A very fair price too. Gairlochs well worth a stay and the beach at sands is beautiful.
The only downside was my poor phone reception- not the campsites fault and this is advantageous to most!

This is a great campsite, absolutely perfect for kids. There is a good playground and the beach is right next door - even in bad weather the kids will love it. The water is shallow so swimming is definitely an option. A nice touch in the bathrooms is that both the mens and ladies have one cubicle with a small bath, rather than shower. This is ideal if you have smaller kids that need a wash! The on site restaurant has improved significantly in the past two years. As a result we enjoyed two meals there - I'd highly recommend it. Pitches near the dunes are more sheltered but also suffer more from midges. Staff are very friendly.

This is a huge site 3 miles out of Gairloch. Tent pitches are spread out over the dunes. You get to choose your own space. Staff were very friendly. Shower and loos are second to none. Beautifully clean. Everything thought of. Hair dryer and straighteners in the ladies. There's a decent size shop which sells absolutely everything you could need. Kids are catered for with an adventure playground right on the middle of the site. There's a nice cafe doing breakfasts, lunches and evening meals. Only had Toast and Coffee in the morning, so can't vouch for anything else. Reasonable priced. Good fish and chips can be had at the Beachcomber chippie in Gairloch itself. Really friendly young lad serving, and good value. There's not a lot in Gairloch, but plenty of nice walks, and the scenery in that part of Scotland is absolutely stunning. Will definitely be back.
