We arrived at the site and despite directions being given we ended on an adjacent factory site and had a great deal of difficulty turning the outfit round. Finally arrived on site and met by proprietor. He then asked for the balance of payment before setting up the electric hookup. This required both our cables plus an additional cable to reach the power source in a barn. This meant that the cable lay across a road over which all traffic to the site passed.
The toilet block is 400 metres away and available to tent campers. The water and toilet disposal are also at this point. Instruction for waste water are 'dispose of at the edge of field. '
The charge is £7. 50 per person per night plus £2. 50 per night for electric hook up. We were kept awake the first night until 12 midnight by a loud band situated in the tent area.
The good thing is the closeness to Cheddar and the gorge.

Management response: We provide the same directions on our website to everyone - no one else have ever had this problem. We ask every visitor to call us 20 minutes before they arrive so that we can confirm they have a good understanding of the directions and so that one of us can be here to welcome them - we received no call.
Both he and his wife received the usual friendly greeting you will see mentioned in all our other reviews - it's our trademark - how we stand out from the rest - we are genuinely pleased to see people and everyone gets the same warm welcome. We then give them a booklet we have had specially printed that answers all the questions we have ever been asked and discount off local restaurants and pubs.
They had not booked electric - hence the need to run two (not three) cables to them - that was when the fun really started! Their electrics did not appear to have been touched since installation and each time we connected them they took out the whole site! After an hour of my time we traced the fault to a loose wall light in their caravan - in fact all of them were loose!
I could not have been more accommodating. Of course I asked for payment and of course that was before they hooked up - that is normal practice. Having said that, I often have people arrive without cash and I'm always happy to hook them up and settle up later - this was not even raised as an issue in this case though - we just settled up in the usual way.
Every new arrival is told verbally and in the first few pages of our brochure: "Please call or text me if you are troubled by any campers especially after 11pm when all music should be turned down". In addition to that I patrol the site at 11am to ensure this request is adhered to. No text or call or later comment was made about and noise disturbance." I have since offered to refund the cost of their stay in full. |

This was our second visit and we arrived along with 30 others to celebrate a 40th Birthday. Once again Jules provided a warm welcome and was helpful with everything we requested. We had a big area of flat ground so we all camped together and erected a marquee in the center. Jules provided plenty of firewood and kindling to keep us warm at night at a reasonable £5 per bag. The toilets were kept clean and although basic they are all you require. We all had a great weekend and will definitely be returning next year to do the same! Thanks Jules.

Only stayed 1 night clean toilets field great as we could have a camp fire plenty of wood supplied
Sunday car boot near by.
Very friendly staff able to take dogs.
I would highly recommend this site.
It was our first time camping and the staff were very helpful in putting up our tent.
The fields were cut very well so the grass was not to long.
It was very easy to find the site.
It was very busy but there was lots of room.
There was a lot going on for the young children to do.
It was set in a nice location not to near the roads.

I ran a rally at Petruth Paddocks for 30 motorhomes in August this year.
It was made so easy by all the help Julian gave to me. He replied promptly to all my questions and was always available when we were on-site.
It is a great site for motorhomes as the field is so flat and the ground firm. Even after heavy rain one night, water drained quickly and we had no problems driving heavy vehicles off the field. The lane to the site did have a lot of large potholes though and could do with a bit of re-surfacing or hole filling.
We didn't use the toilet facilities as we all had our own, but they were kept clean and tidy all the time we were there. Having to take our rubbish home was a bit of a pain, but ok for a weekend.
It is an easy walk to Cheddar from the site and the car boot on Sunday is also easily accessible, all essential if you have a motorhome and don't want try to park a large vehicle in the towns carparks.
We had a really enjoyable weekend there and I have no doubt we will be returning.

We stayed here in June. Loved the site, very quiet. Julian was very helpful, met us on arrival. Could park our caravan where we wanted.
Not worried about the facilities, we have our own in our caravan. No close neighbours, so didn't worry that we were early risers.
Our dogs could run in the lower field, plenty of freedom which we all enjoyed. Probably the best site we have stayed on.
We love the peace and quiet. Shops a few minutes walk from the site, also pubs were close by.
Good value for money.
Plenty of walks for my partner and the dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our three days and will be returning again and again.
Oh and we loved the boot sale.

We stayed here for the last May Bank holiday weekend.
Had a fantastic stay!
The site has ample flat pitching space (we took a 9 man Colemans Exponent + Windbreak and 2 Cars and had no one pitch to close) When we arrived at midday we had our pick of the field.
We were a little lost when we arrived but were directed to the camping field by friendly caravanners and soon greeted by Steven who was very helpful and handed us a local guide and explained things. (which is very handy) (As well as being contacted by Jules to make sure we were ok)
The site was quiet with just the normal campsite fireside chatter after dark.
We purchased fire wood from Jules for a reasonable £7.50 which included a bag of kindling and a bag of logs.
Our pitch was £7.50 per person per night at the time of our stay.
But this seems comparable with most camp sites rates these days.
Though there are limited facilities toilets, (male & female toilets with small wash basins- Do remember toilet roll just in case there is none, but there was a nice handwash in there when we stayed). This did not bother us as it is clearly stated that there are no showers and we used the local swimming pools facilities down the road when we needed a shower.
In addition there are drinking water facilities at various locations around the site.
I can understand peoples issues with Rubbish but there is a rubbish site down the road which takes very little effort to go to before you leave or during your stay.
We do not have children but I could see how it would be a lovely place to stay with children, with Horses and an old Jeep in the field to play with.
On leaving it is very relaxed with no specific pack up time which was a nice end to our stay.
The site is relaxed but efficient - Jules made sure we were ok and was thoughtful leaving us wood in case we needed it when he missed us one evening and Steven was also around to help.
We stayed here as it is so close to Cheddar Gorge and we were Caving and Rock Climbing at the Gorge.
The little booklet gives you directions by foot or there is limited parking (though we found it not that busy and could always park) Parking in Cheddar Gorge was £3 all day at the top of the Gorge and at the bottom near the Riverside Inn was £1 an hour or £3 all day.
We enjoyed the local area but more for the Walks and Scenery, as adults with no children Wookey Hole was ok, very Child Friendly but we would have preferred more of a tour based on the geological view point rather than the Wookey Witch and Lots of Crying Scared Children.
But we can recommend our Caving and Rock Climbing at Cheddar Gorge. We had great fun! and the staff at the Gorge were really helpful and good at their jobs.
The Gorge walk has AMAZING VIEWS worth the uphill hike!
We also enjoyed a stroll around Wells - view the Cathedral Clock on the hour as this is when it is most interesting!
Longleat is also not very far away and well worth the visit but do start out early it took us a whole day 11-7pm without all the children's attractions there.
There is a Very Small Tesco express in Cheddar and a Larger Budgens.
We ate at numerous places all were friendly but differed on the quality and style of food.
We were not overly impressed by the Chinese RiverCottage (can not remember if this is the correct name) Staff Nice - Food not so.
Fish and Chips were reasonable and good especially their lunch time snack deal.
Pub wise we were not that overly struck with the ones in Cheddar we visited most over our stay and the best for us in Cheddar was the Riverside Inn.
BUT WE CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE RODNEY STOKE INN (but it does get VERY busy, we booked tables) its is a clean modern but inviting Pub.
GREAT FOOD - LOTS OF FRESH CHOICE - GOOD COOKING - HELPFUL WITH FOOD ALLERGIES - GREAT AND FRIENDLY STAFF. The Rodney Stoke also has a bar with a pool table good for those rainier evenings.
(Turn Right out onto main road of campsite and stay on the road until you get to the village Rodney Stoke and you will see the Pub on the right)
All in All we would return.

There is lots of space at this site (no worries about being close to others) and Jules is regularly around, always friendly and happy to provide helpful advice about the site and surrounding area.
He also sells wood, comes to you to supply it and open fires (directly on the ground) are no problem at all.
Beautiful views of the surrounding Mendip escarpment and only a short walk to the pubs and shops in Cheddar.
Very big car boot sale just down the road every Sunday. This is now a regular site for us as a relaxing way to get away from it all.

We spent one night at Petruth Paddocks. Julian met us and accompanied us to the campsite. he was really friendly and helpful. Later he brought some kindling and firewood for us and it was nice that he spent some time chatting but not in an intrusive way.
The site seems to attract a really nice genuine type of camper. It's basic but really friendly.
There are no showers and the toilets are small and as others have said, a long way from the camping area. They're adequate but basic. Fine for us and we had no complaints about the facilities themselves they're just not what some may expect.
We really enjoyed our stay in terms of getting back to basics but would seek out better facilities if we needed to stay longer just from a practical point of view. Would be nice to have somewhere to get rid of rubbish as we were motorcycling and it was difficult to carry it from the site.

Just got back from an over night camping at Petruth Paddocks. Had a brilliant time. After an afternoons ramble around Chedder Gorge and wetting of our whistles in one of the local pubs we headed back to camp for bbq and campfire.
It's a really nice relaxed site, great for large groups of people. Jules is a really top bloke, very welcoming. The site is very basic with just toilets and water taps but for a short stay it's all you need.
The toilets were clean (remember your own loo roll!) but a little far away from the camping field. It would be nice to have somewhere to dispose of rubbish, as it is you are required to take it home with you.
Good local cider and a massive Carboot on the Sunday. Couldn't ask for more from a weekend camping. Would recommend this site for large groups of friends looking for a short camping trip. I will certainly be going back.

Have just returned from 3 nights camping at this site and had a great time.
The site itself has plenty of space and is in a nice quiet location 10mins walk from Cheddar town, another 5 mins or so to the Gorge. The toilets were cleaned most mornings (only 3 groups on the site, so they didn't get messy) and my only complaint about the toilets would be the distance from the camping field as you have to walk through the caravan field.
Owners were very friendly and they checked in with us every so often. Each time we were promised a booklet about the area but never seemed to get it, although we were out a lot.
There is plenty to do in the area, our prefered cider came from 'the cider shop' just before entering the Gorge.
