2nd visit and we are planning a 3rd in Oct.

Wonderful place for sight seeing, walking, cycling etc.

Basic facilities but wonderful owner (Julian) always willing to help.

You get a handbook on arrival full of useful info of where to go to eat, drink etc.

Brilliant farm shop nearby at Nyland.

Walking distance to Cheddar town & the Gorge.

Lovely Views

Ideal for visiting Wokey hole, Wells, Glastonbury & its Tor, Street etc.

We had a lovely stay at Petruth Paddocks. We paid a deposit of half of one nights stay and then paid nightly as the weather was up and down. Ended up staying 3 nights.

The views are beautiful. It is a very quiet site seemingly miles from anywhere but walked along cycle track into town centre in just a few minutes.

It was lovely to have fires, flexibility and the kids loved playing on the swing and car.

Downsides - the toilets - only one for men and 2 for women and no showers, neither of which were really a problem to us but did seem a little on the pricey side considering lack of facilities. The only really downside was having to take rubbish away - requested by site owners and no bins on site.

Really laid back but seeing Julian the owner nightly to check anything out and pay was great.

Just got back from a 3 night stay, apart from the weather (it rained for 24 hours on and off, more on then off) we have a great time.

Camp site is in walking distance of cheddar and the gorge. On arrival was given a great little booklet of local pubs and place to eat, even got 10% of our meal at the White Hart when we showed our booklet. Overall a great campsite

We chose pedruth as it was within a reasonable distance for a new comer like me, first time away in the van and all that.

On arrival you have the waste pit and toilet block just inside the site, the toilet blocks are not pristine but I never use the toilets any way so that was not a issue, having said that they were not dirty just in need of a lick of paint and such.

The waste pit is a manhole cover, and below a very big smelly pit, only thing I would advise is:

1 keep hold of your cassette when emptying as you would not want to have to fish it out, perhaps a wire mesh with a larger hole cut in it for emptying

2 more importantly don't let your kids near it

There are only 4 hook ups and they are all in one area quite close to the old barn, long cables required, although Julian has spares if you don't have any long enough.

Your waste water goes in the hedge, no problem with that, don't have to walk far.

What I really like there is that it is a relaxed site, kids can run wild in the field you can have campfires anywhere and leave when you want, no time you have to leave by.

The town is a little walk say 10 mins and another 10 mins to the gorge.

Just up the lane on a Sunday is a huge carboot sale. I can thoroughly recommend the Rodney stoke inn for a nice meal out, but booking is recommended. When you meet Julian he will provide you a where and what for about cheddar, which was fantastic for finding places.

In short if you want a basic campsite with no bells and whistles this is the place to go

I will be going back again for sure

A lovely quite basic site where everyone is made to feel welcome, set in the beautiful Somerset countryside near Cheddar, famous for its gorge & caves.

Only intended to stay 3 nights but extended stay to over a week! Intend to return end of July (so save us a pitch please Julian as we still need to book!)

On arrival we recieved a warm welcome from Julian (owner) and introduced to the site, he presented us with a very proffesionally produced handbook all about the site and local facilities (worth its weight in gold).

Facilities: Toilet block (don't forget your toilet rolls), water taps, fire wood for camp fires (small fee) a couple of elec hook ups. No showers on site (but available at nearby leisure centre) within walking distance of Cheddar which has supermarkets, cash machines etc.

Idealy situated for visiting the nearby small city of Wells and towns of Glastonbury & Street, also nearby is wookey hole a very good farm shop nearby at Nylands for local meat & veg etc, Hunters lodge inn near Priddy is worth a visit if you like unspoilt pubs with good beer and basic proper good cheap pub food for lunch.

Lovely pubs, food etc witin walking distance at Cheddar all mentioned in the handbook, Do try the local Legbender scrumpy aboout £7 for 5 litres!

Great site, basic toilets, no showers, open fields, camp fires allowed, great views, owners very friendly. Good base for exploring the Gorge and surrounding areas.

Quite open so not much protection from the wind so don't forget your windbreaks! Difficult to find but the owner comes and meets you.

Good place for sitting round a fire with your mates and chilling.

Lovely site with lots of space and great owners. Feels really away from it all but you are really close to everything you might need. Many things in walking distance of the campsite.

A bit expensive considering the facilities (£20 per night for 2 adults and a child with no hook up) which are toilets and cold water. There are no facilities for waste disposal, you have to take it home with you.

However it is lovely to be able to make campfires (firewood sold on site) and feel so at one with nature!

There is a tyre swing and an old land rover for the kids to play on and the windy field was perfect for flying our sons kite!

The night we stayed there was a party going on down at the other end of the field and sadly they did not respect the owners rules of quiet after 11pm so we had a very disturbed night's sleep. Julian (the owner) was incredibly apologetic the next day and gave us a bottle of wine and free camping but even so we moved on the following day as we didn't want to risk it happening again.

We would go back though as we had such a lovely evening beforehand and it seems this is not usual.

Also Julian has a mobile phone which you can call if there are any problems- we just felt it was too late to ring him after midnight but I am sure had we done so he would have come out and sorted the problem out at that point.

This is proper camping as it should be and we will go back and try again!

A group of friends first came here in 2010 and were greeted with a warm welcome! The owner brought us fire wood within minutes of us pitching and enjoyed a beer with us!

The campsite itself is very basic; two huge fields and a small toilet block. Taps were dotted around too, with electric hook ups if required.

We had a lovely couple of days with an open fire (which they have made make-shift fire pits for) and as there weren't many people there, we had free range of volume and space.

We returned the same time of year in 2011 and had the same experience.

Went into Cheddar village everyday as only 20 minutes away (walking). Always a lovely place to walk around. We found a lovely café that does an amazing full breakfast (yellow building opposite the cheese store), which I always suggest to people!

There was a camper van rally going on this time, and a man almost crashed into me because I was 'driving too fast' (i was doing 5mph which is the limit when campers are there) and he drove right in front of me, I even swerved and he did too - bit of a jerk! But the owner; Julian is a great guy!

We will be returning again this year (2012), bringing my puppy too - I'm sure she'd love this place just as much as we do!

Perfect for large groups for a short weekend away; there are no showers though so beware!

Large tent x2 adult x1 dog:

Petruth Paddocks is a lovely campsite!

We arrived a lot later than planned at 21:45 but were still greeted with great warmth by Julian, having phoned ahead, as planned to give our ETA.

We pitched in car headlights & had a lovely fireside evening having purchased logs & kindling lasting both nights for approx £7.

The views in the morning (over the Mendips?) were fantastic, even looked beautiful with grey sky & drizzle!

There is one block of toilets at the entrance & no showers (on site but available locally), however if this is not an obstacle, you will as we did find Petruth Paddocks a memorable & wonderful back to basics campsite, with oodles of room & with a wonderfully relaxing feeling. Highly recommended & many thanks to Jules & Sandra for running such a great campsite! :-)

Fantastic camp site. Just what we've been looking for. A group of us stayed here at the weekend and had a great time.

Julian was lovely and made us feel very welcome. He was helpful and knowledgeable and provided us with a brilliant little guide for the area and the campsite.

We were able to have a fire and talk late without having to worry. There is no curfew, just underlying respect all round which is very refreshing. The site is so big, you're unlikely to bother anyone anyway.

The toilets were fine, a bit of a walk but camping isn't about facilities for me. The site was beautiful and great value for money. Julian couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful and we got to have a very merry night without having to worry about being labelled hooligans or whatever.

If you want a relaxed atmosphere, gorgeous surroundings, easy access to Cheddar and a place to have a good time with friends, pay a visit.

We will be going back, as soon as we can.
