We received a great welcome when we arrived here. Jules and his team checked every now and agian to check everyone was OK.
Here is an amazing uninterrupted almost 180 degree view of the Mendip Hills. Stunning.
The toilets and showers are brand new and worked well. The cleaning team worked relentlessly, constantly cleaning them as well as the water taps around the field.
There were the ubiquitous dos and don't signs but all were written in a friendly matter with cartoons.
There is the Cheddar Ales Tap Rooms just 600 yards from the reception area, serving some 13 or so different ales served in 1/3 pint glasses so you can try different ales.
Cheddar town centre is only few minutes walk from site were there are a number of bubs, restaurants and tea rooms not to mention the famous Cheddar Caves though these were closed when we visited due to Covid 19.

Our experience differed from other recent ones. Huge site but not packed out due to Covid but we were positioned close to other units. Not sure about allowing dogs to run free - never known this anywhere else. Riley's dish was upturned and raided while we were out! Also a large dog bounded out snarling to us as we walked back into the site, presumably from reception.
The portacabin toilets weren't open while we were there - just the new pods which were awful in our opinion. Not designed with females in mind. Awkward door that causes you to set off hand-dryer, tiny washhand basin that is not big enough for night-time routine. No-where to put anything.
The gorge walk was fab but strenuous on a hot day. Expensive site - will not be back.

Stayed here a couple of times when our favourite campsite in Cheddar (Cheddar Bridge) had been closed or full.
It's a pleasant enough site only a short walk into Cheddar, I remember in the past it not being the cheapest site, especially when you consider it's just a large farmers field with some porta cabin toilets and a few rough gravel hardstandings.
Went to rebook today 3 people for 2 nights - total cost £96!
More expensive most other sites we've stayed at with better facilities and landscaping.
What a joke, I thought camping was supposed to be a budget friendly way to holiday, we might as well have booked the comfort of a B&B for that price.
Will look elsewhere if our first choice in Cheddar is full in future.

Easy to find but avoid Banwell if towing or motorhome as extremely narrow.
Having chosen a really wet week my 5 year old grandson still had a great time playing with Jules's son. Henry had a ride on the quad bike and loved the animals.
We visited the caves and resevoir with skate park next door. Heney took his bike. Ocean Adventures was great for indoor play
O - 12yrs.
We look forward to returning in better weather and having a firepit with marshmallows.
Didn't use the facilities so can't coment on those.

Here for a large family gathering, 3 generations, 12 units - tents, a caravan and a campervan.
Absolutely perfect site for us, facilities fairly basic but clean and sufficient.
Fire pits provided were amazing, children loved toasting marshmallows and toasting popcorn.
Location excellent, just a short walk on a footpath/cycleway from Cheddar village and on to the gorge.

Stayed here in early March for two nights. The site was pretty quiet, not surprising considering the time of year and storm Gareth wreaking havoc!
Very friendly welcome and helpful service from the owner and staff. Very chilled out and relaxed atmosphere, I'm sure it makes a good party site in the summer particularly. Was given a VERY comprehensive welcome pack containing every bit of information about the site and area that anyone is likely to need. Impressed.
Location is great, about a 15 minute walk into the centre of Cheddar, where you'll find Tesco, Sainsbury, all manner of pubs and shops and of course the Gorge itself. There's a cyclepath leading from the site entrance which makes it easy. There are also lots of fab walks direct from site, you can walk for miles along the droves and alongside the waterways, and indeed I did.
Facilities were fine, everything you would need, fairly basic but perfectly serviceable. Portacabins housing the showers and loos. Good recycling. Washing up sinks. Free wifi on the pitch, although I didn't use it, found my 4G was pretty fast so stuck with that.
Looks like a lot of work has been done and is continuing to improve the site even more. A lot of trees being planted between the pitches and around the fields - when they grow it'll look very nice. It's a very big site with various camping areas / fields.
I stayed for 2 nights, one person, dog and EHU and paid £15 a night. Was offered the choice of hardstanding or grass - took grass as I hate hardstanding and it was fine despite the torrential rain.
Would definitely return!

It was a great stay the staff was extremely friendly. One of the team supplied me with a shoreline which I did not have and dry firewood with drum.
Very understanding with my reactive dog. (akita) lol
It's only 10 minute walk to Sainsbury's or Tesco's just follow the cycle route.
I will definitely be returning hopefully I have the same good experience.

Brilliant site! staff very friendly and welcoming. Nice to have the owner pop by and say hello one evening.
Good location, easy to walk into Cheddar.
We were a group of 6 adults in a mixture of tents and campervan who were pitched in a good location, loved the fact we could have a fire and even better it was delivered to our van!
Toilet blocks & showers were clean. Like the attitude to recycling and were more than happy to sort our rubbish before depositing into the bins provided.
Would fully recommend this site to anyone from families to groups to couples.
We shall certainly be back.
Thanks for a great stay

Quiet and peaceful. Level field with fantastic views. Toilets clean and showers hot.
It is back to basics so don't expect 5 star accommodation, but if relaxing and chilled is what you are after then this is it.
There is a small shop for essentials and you can have your own fire.
We will be back.

Fantastic! Everyone we came across was really helpful. It was our first time staying at Petruth, but I'm sure we'll be back. The laid back atmosphere is great. Lots of space and the freedom to have a log fire to sit round during the evening was a real treat.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
