Stayed for 3 nights midweek and had plenty of room, there is a big empty field for the kids to play ball games in safely and without disturbing other campers.

Excellent location for exploring the Gorge and Cheddar Village on foot, plus a good base for exploring further a field by car.

The site was clean and tidy and the toilets, shower cubicles and washing up area were clean, plus there were coffee and breakfast huts open when we needed them (not exactly sure of the opening times).

A bit over the top with the recycling

Of rubbish but apart from that it was a good experience and a nice site.

The staff were all friendly and happy to please.

We only stayed one night as we were on route somewhere but were very impressed. It was lovely to be able to get a decent coffee & pastry in the pouring rain in the morning.

Our young dog had never camped before & he was in heaven. I was expecting a lot of noise as it was a big campsite & peak season. We went on the Quiet Field which was. Quiet!

We will definitely return

I stayed here as part of a group of women with children.

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome and there was nothing the staff and owners could not do to help us.

Throughout our stay everyone was very helpful and friendly.

The children were allowed to play and relax at their own leisure

Overall this one one of the best camping experience I have had! Thank you

Finding the site proved easier than I anticipate, the greeting on arrival was very welcoming by the family, who proved to be very helpful for local information. We were directed to a field on our own for two nights but were told come the weekend the whole site would fill up, which it did. The bathrooms, showers and loos were kept clean throughout our stay even though the amount of other users. We were in the quite area which it was with only a short walk to the loos. We asked about the cycling routes which are easy to find. The open area of the site proved to be welcome as we had very little breeze and hot sunny weather with very little natural shelter. Cheddar Gorge is an easy cycle ride as the village with a supermarket close by. A very enjoyable stay. Thank you.

Stayed here for 10 nights. Chose here mainly due to location, but doubt I will return. Having to pay £2 per night for a fire pit, and if you want one you need to pay for your full stay so this was £20 + they try to sell you paper and kindling separate, (glad I know how to light a fire so I did not buy this) then £5 for bag of logs which is about bog standard for campsites so not complaining about that. If it had rained for the 10 nights the fire pit would have been a waste of money.

As for toilets and Shower facilities, they are a joke. Although kept fairly clean, there are not enough for the amount of people this site takes. If you wanted a shower in the morning, forget it unless you want to queue.

I know they warn you about this on web site but for the money this site takes in on a daily basis I am sure they could improve the facilities to accommodate the amount of people they have. I have been to a lot of sites which are cheaper and have much better facilities.

If someone is using washing up area, the shower pressure reduces. One of the signs on the site by chemical waste asked that you only use 1 litre of water to clean out your chemical toilet to keep their charges down! I am sure the flush in toilets was more than this and much less in these than a chemical toilet that a family has been using for a day or two.

Pot holes could do with filling in with some hardcore at entrance to 2nd field as they were huge and when raining causes so much mud getting trailed into shower areas as well as tents etc.

All in all probably a good site for large parties or young families but it is not a site for chilling out and have a relaxing holiday. Staff were all pleasant. Pitch sizes with EHU were good size, but this site is just a money grabber in my view.

Great site, clean, spacious and very friendly.

Great facilities, toilets and wash area were clean whenever I used them. The site had everything we needed a small shop, fresh coffee in the morning, somewhere to freeze ice blocks. The fire drums were great.

Does exactly what it says on the tin 'Free Range Camping'.

Brilliant site! We arrived midweek for a short 3 night break with our two children - 9 year old and 20 month old - and it was ideal for them. My eldest really enjoyed climbing/playing with the land rover in the middle of the site. It became the hub of activity for all the children throughout our stay! He made new friends every day and was out exploring or playing different games with his new friends. My 20 month old also enjoyed playing on the landrover, looking at the animals and running around the field. She made friends with some younger children in the tent next door to us.

Staff- The staff were fantastic and very helpful! As soon as we are arrived we were greeted and shown the site. The staff also told us about the area and the way you can walk into Cheddar from the site.

Food - in the mornings midweek there would be a food van selling basic breakfast baps (vegetarian options available) and there is also a Sainsbury’s not too far from the site. On the Friday night/Saturday morning there was another pop up food van that sold burgers and chips on the evening and breakfast baps in the morning. The coffee hut was also open on Saturday morning which was nice!

Facilities - The toilets and showers were always clean and well maintained. I didn’t have to wait to use any of them. There are a couple of basins to brush your teeth and there is somewhere to wash up your plates. They also have a freezer and a charging point for phones! This is the first time I’ve seen a charging area in a campsite and it was a welcome addition!

Cheddar is just a short walk from site and we explored the caves there. They were amazing and we had a fantastic day out. As we’re local we used our longleat passes to get 50% off the tickets! We also went to Shepton Mallet Lido which is only about 20/30 minutes drive away from the site.

All in all it was a fantastic few days. We spent our days exploring and our evenings sat around a fire pit (you can rent one) toasting marshmallows. We were recommended this site by a friend and we will definitely be passing on that recommendation to others! Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back!

This was me and my sons first camp this year and I couldn't of picked a better site although the weather could of been a little better. The site had everything you'd need for a short break. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing seemed to much trouble.

The toilet, shower blocks and wash up facilities were more than adequate and always kept very clean, the morning grill (although a little pricey in my opinion) was a godsend on the morning we were packing up as you could get yourself a sausage sandwich whilst you packed everything away. All amenities are a short walk away and plenty to see and do only a short drive. Would definitely come here again and would recommend it to anybody looking for a quite no frills camp site for a short break.

First ever trip away in a motorhome and it was perfect for that. Easy access from M5, friendly welcome and flat ground.

Flexibility in check in and out was a major draw for us this weekend, as we were meeting my brother abd and nephew for just two days/ one night. We wanted to get there Sat morning and not leave until after lunch Sunday. We've two vans between two adults and two children their pricing worked out better than it would for some sites, for us too.

Several large groups there this weekend, but somehow it all seems to work.

We did the 'meet the animals' tour which seems to be on a couple of times most days, and the children really enjoyed it.

Great family friendly cycling straight from the site. We had a picnic at Cheddar reservoir the first day and lunch in a nice cafe in Axebridge the second.

I am almost embarrassed to say I went to this campsite because it seemed to be my idea of a campsite from hell. Campfires encouraged and wood sold, groups encouraged, free range kids and free range dogs. However, I thought in midweek there would be no kids and the dogs would be in control of responsible owners, and that turned out to be the case.

It is one of only two campsites within easy walking distance of Cheddar (about 15 minutes) and the other one seemed more geared up for wheeled units. There is a safe tarmac footpath/cyclepath with lighting leading directly from the entrance of the campsite to the village.

They advertise it as a 'free range' campsite with few rules although once you start reading the nitty gritty they have quite a few rules, but they are sensible ones like no music after 11pm but you can still sit round a campfire and talk.

There can't have been more than a dozen units on the site while I was there which was probably a good thing because with just two toilet cubicles for men if the site was full I would imagine there would be a long queue. There were two small hand basins in the toilet portacabin but only cold water. There were, however, plenty of showers with hot water but if you simply want a hot water wash you will need to boil a kettle in your tent…so take a bowl. There is hot water in the washing up area. There are separate rooms for cleaning teeth etc; but these consist of cold water taps over a long trough where everybody has to stand alongside each other, cleaning their teeth and spitting in the same trough. These were in an open ended barn so pretty cold in winter I would imagine. The thing is, that's what made it a unique site and brought a smile to my face. It was kept clean and tidy but I wouldn't want to go on a weekend or during school holidays.

The camping fields themselves are kept well mown. They are totally flat, open, and featureless apart from a hedge separating them so no shade from the sun and no protection from the wind. There is a small industrial site next to the campsite which does create some noise from about 0830 in the morning, certainly during the week anyway.

I had booked two nights but packed up and came home on the second day for no other reason than I was bored and the weather wasn’t ideal. I decided to pack up before the threatened rain arrived.

Cheddar seems quite run down compared to the last time I went there some years ago. Many empty shops and a huge hotel at the start of the Gorge lying empty and derelict…a bit of a carbuncle on the surrounding scenery. Nevertheless I did have a pleasant evening in the White Swan pub where the natives were friendly and the barman actually spoke to the customers. I didn’t eat there but a fellow camper told me the food was good.

A nice enough campsite and I am sure ideal for those who like fairly basic facilities, free range kids and dogs and campfires. I am a solo camper and would go again if I wanted to visit Cheddar but I would pick the time and weather wisely.
