The road to the site was single track but had lots of 'Passing places' so was never really an issue.

The tent pitches were generous and the fire pits and picnic bench were a very nice touch. There were no laundry facilities but sure there was a launderette in the nearest town.

The toilet block was clean with 2 toilets and 2 showers for each male & females but as the showers had 'wet' floors you had to hang your clean clothes up or they would get soaking so a small stool would have been a good idea, there was also a notice asking you to use the mop after the shower which we didn't mind.

The campers kitchen was also a nice touch but there wasn't any hot water.

The beach was more of a hike to get to, over a field full of sheep, through a woods and down a steep hill but it was a nice bay, but there were lots of little bays and beaches more accessible along the road to the site. The views were amazing and a very relaxing place to stay and would definitely go back for a longer stay

We really enjoyed our visit to this site. For our very first camping holiday, this was great. The toilet blocks have recently been updated, plenty free hot water in the showers. Although it is quite secluded, there is plenty to do, we went for walks in the morning and ventured out in the afternoons to Dumfries, Kircudbright and the surrounding villages.
At night we were happy to sit around the camp fire, as there is a fire pit and picnic table included in the pitch. There is no play area, but plenty of space to run around and play.
There seemed to be plenty of pubs in Kircudbright. We loved the small beaches in the area, and the site had a walk which led to a cove, although we never went to look for it. If you're looking for good scenery in a nice quiet location, this is it.
There was electric hook up available, but we didn't need it. Also provided was a handy kitchen area, which we found really useful quite a few times. We will definitely be back, as for £15 a night, for a family of 4, it was worth it. We had booked for 3 nights, but ended up staying 4, we liked it so much.

Only booked the site at the last minute for one night, but managed to get in. The site is really well laid out, with numbered pitches, and they are huge. Each pitch has a picnic table and a fire pit (with chopped logs available from the farm), and still loads of room for a very big tent.
Facilities on site are very good - the Toilet/Shower block is great - wet room style, and spotlessly clean. Washing up facilities in 'the shed' also included two full size gas hobs, in case the weather was too bad to cook at your tent, or for people using the Wigwams - had a look in one of these, and although small, would be great for winter camping! Fitted with a microwave kettle and toaster, and seating that converts to a large double - something we would definitely consider.
The views over the Solway Firth are really nice, and the shore is about a 10 minute walk - a nice sandy cove and rockpools for the kids.Best entertainment of the weekend though was watching the farmer trying to catch the Clydesdale stallion in the field opposite at 7 in the morning!
A really pleasant quiet site run by a very friendly couple, and a great base for exploring the Southwest of Scotland - we've booked again for the August bank holiday.

Very spacious pitches with picnic table and brick barbie. The toilet block was very clean even though they were having trouble with the showers in the ladies (the men's and ladies toilets / showers were swapped around while we were there, with the men using the disabled shower facilities.)
Great recycling and composting facilities. Chemical disposal lid rather heavy but clean and didn't smell. The site is set by a quiet no-through road leading down to Ross Bay. You can walk through the field down to some secluded bays and watch the boats go by. The sandy beach bay is wonderful for a picnic and a paddle - our dog spent ages barking at the small waves coming in!

Kirkudbright is about 6 miles away and has a supermarket, coffee shops, museum and other shops of interest as well as a small harbour. Cream of Galloway is well worth a visit - it has fab ice cream and great activities for all the family and even a walk area for the dog!Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart, Dalbeatie and Dumfries all in drivng distance with more shops for those who need their fix.

Neil and Patricia were very helpful and ensured you had everything you needed. Great views, peaceful and relaxing site. Definitely worth another visit.

I genuinely cannot think of a negative thing to say about this great little site. It gives you a real feel of camping. Fires, fun, peace and quiet with no fancy frills; just camping.

The views, if you get one, (most do) are stunning and the walk to the secluded beach is an easy and lovely one through the forest.

As for facilities, do not worry about the new shower/toilet block. It is now finished and it is superb. My mother would happily use them and that's telling you something.

There is no shop or bar as the site itself is out of town a few miles, but Kirkcudbright is a short car journey and has all you need. Plus it is a great wee town itself.

Patricia and her family could not be more accommodating. Her sister and the family kids came down with their new puppy to see my 3yr old daughter. A simple thing you might say, but it shows the nature of the owners and their family. They enjoy making people feel welcome.

We loved it!

We visited this lovely camp site and had a great time.

It's quite basic in terms of facilities but rich in scenery, walks etc. The whole site is absolutely immaculate - clean toilet / shower block, perfect cooking / dining facility, open fires, lovely atmosphere, family friendly, no loud beer-swilling yobs and brilliant location.

The owners are really friendly and helpful - you can buy fresh eggs, wood etc from the farm - the farmer's son cuts about on his mini quadbike delivering wood and supplies that you've ordered in the shop.

We stayed in a tent one night and then into a wigwam and this was easily the cleanest and best stocked wigwam we've been in - great attention to detail - tea towel, washing up liquid etc and they didn't chase us out when we were a little tardy on the day of leaving.

Really first class - will def be visiting this year!

We visited with a large family group in June. Adults and five kids in 2 wigwams. The setting is absolutely stunning and the wigwams had all mod cons including microwave, toaster and kettle. Each unit has its own picnic table, barbeque and fire pit (ingeniously made from a recycled lorry wheel).
I have to disagree with previous reviewers who remarked on the lack of facilities for kids. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the rope swing and gathering wood in the nearby woods was an especially popular pastime.
The toilet block was excellent - brand new and always spotlessly clean. We didn't have any problems with water being too hot - although the security code on the door gave us a few problems on night trips to the loo!

The campers kitchen was a special bonus with two gas hobs, loads of equipment and a huge table and benches to accommodate over 10 people. We seemed to have exclusive use of the kitchen during the whole weekend - I wonder if the other campers knew it was there? (Or maybe we were just hogging it!).
Loads to do in nearby Kirkudbright - the Jazz Festival was on while we were there, very easy going and non commercial. We just spread our picnic matt in front of one of the bands and enjoyed the music.

All in all, an excellent site - we'll definitely be back. In fact it was such a gentle introduction to camping in wigwams that we're no hooked and will return with our tent before the summer's out.

This is a lovely site about 4 miles from Kirkudbright. It has lovely views of the Solway coast. Each pitch has a picnic table and a small area for a campfire. The toilet and showers are spotless and the owners are very helpful. I loved this site and can't wait to go back.

We stayed at this campsite for 5 nights over the late May Bank holiday in a tent with the added bonus of an electric hook-up.

As other reviewers have said this site is in a truly beautiful location and aside from the early dawn chorus of twittering birds and bleating lambs, due to the limited number of pitches, (about 20 campers / caravans in total whilst we were there), this site is also very peaceful, with the tent pitches well spaced, (at least 15 to 25m apart), so that you hear hardly any noise from other campers.

The camping pitch sizes are also very generous; we easily managed to fit both a 5m metre bell tent and a gazebo / day tent on the pitch with there still being plenty of room for the fire pit, BBQ and picnic bench that were already there as part of the pitch.

The 16amp electric hook-up worked well, although as the point was quite far away from the pitch I was relieved that we’d bought a 20m cable rather than a 15m one.

In addition to the pitch there was also designated parking right next to the pitch, which was easily accessed via a slate track so we had no concerns about getting bogged down in a muddy field (Caravans and Motorhomes are higher up the site on hard standing).

The views from the pitch we were on were truly stunning – sitting in the tent facing out to the Solway Firth we were able to look out onto a field of lambs and sheep that fell away to a small wood and the sea beyond. This view then finished with the hazy outline of the North Lake District Mountains during the day and twinkling lights at night.

We fortunately had five days of brilliant sunshine, although when the wind got up one evening, we did end up taking down the day tent just to be safe, as due to the campsites’ natural location on a promontory, parts of the site can get a bit gusty.

In terms of amenities, again as others have said, this is not an all singing and all dancing campsite. The ‘entertainment’ for children comes in the form of a knotted rope swinging from a huge old tree or signposted walks to either a 17th Century graveyard or a walk through the bluebell wood to the Farm’s private beach.

There’s no shop, no bar and the only swimming pool is the sea! There is however a brilliant Camping Kitchen hut, which had two proper gas hobs and a sink for washing up. There’s also a large table in the middle with benches all around it. This camping kitchen was mainly used by the people in tents and also by the people staying in the three wooden wigwams that are also on the site.

Another bonus of this site is that they allow campfires in the fire pit provided and it’s possible to have a large bag of chopped logs expertly delivered to your pitch for £5 by the son of the owners.

Shortly before we arrived, the brand new loo and shower block, (two of each for gents and the same again for the ladies), had just been finished, however a few teething problems with the showers meant that all but one of the new showers were out of action for part of the weekend. The site owner, Patricia, was extremely apologetic about the problems and got the plumbers back on site early on the Monday morning to fix the problems, but there still seemed to be some difficulties with getting the shower water temperature right, (too hot for the first few showers and then too cold for the rest).

As these new showers were problematic for most of our stay, we ended up mainly using the more ‘basic’ tin hut showering facilities on the other side of the campsite. These facilities had normal electric showers and although the showering / dressing space was a bit constricted, (you have a choice between wet trouser legs, or a risky drying/dressing session in the open air), they were perfectly adequate, and like the main shower / toilet block, were free of charge which is a great bonus.

All in all, if you’re after a peaceful, low hassle camping experience, (with the added benefit of electric hook-up for tents if you want it), in a stunning location situated in a beautiful and interesting part of the Scotland, with extremely friendly and helpful owners, you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere better and we’re certainly planning upon returning.

Stayed the May BH weekend. Only £12 for 2 adults and 2 kids! A lovely farm site in a beautiful peaceful situation - views over the estuary. No light pollution.

The toilets were brand new and gleaming. The owners/farmers worked very hard to make sure everything was right for everyone. A nice mix of caravans, camper vans and tents. There is a non EHU tenting area with loads of room and the owner made sure we were very well spaced. The land is well drained. A picnic table and fire-bowl was provided. Can buy a big bag of wood for £5. Used the fire to cook every meal on. There is a handy covered campers' kitchen, too.

The kids all congregated at the rope-swing. They all had the best time playing in this natural area.

Kirkcudbright is a lovely small town with an interesting museum, harbour, art galleries and a swimming pool.

There are disabled facilities at the campsite.

A very well thought out natural site with everything you need. Wish every site was like this!
