We camped for the local Glasgow September weekend for 3 nights Friday to Monday when we arrived in the autumn sunshine Neil the owner showed us to our pitch which had a fantastic view of the Solway. The site was really quiet and peaceful we could not believe the size of our pitch-huge with picnic table and fire pit. We were glad we had stocked up on food etc in Castle Douglas as Kirkcudbright is nearest town about a 10-15 min drive, but that wasn't a problem at all.
We bought the logs from reception at the farmhouse and used our fire pit every night we loved this! Our 11 and 8 year old boys were kept amused by the tree swing and just had fun playing in general. On Saturday we went to Cream O' Galloway for the day again our boys loved this and want to go back a must if you have young kids fortunately the weather was beautiful.
I would definitely return to this site, I know it gets busy in the summer months but the pitches are the best we've ever been to. The wee cookhouse to do your dishes was excellent with just having to boil the kettle for water, showers etc were excellent being warm and clean. Great value for money and with EHU too.
Plenty of walk to do around the site with clearly marked trails with lovely views.

A lovely small campsite with great views. Pitches are spacious, toilet facilities modern and clean. Some nice strolls direct from site. Nearest shop and pub about a mile and a half away so stock up before you arrive. A great site for families with younger children and couples, perhaps a bit too quiet for families with teenagers. Small playpark. Ideal for us and a site we will definitely return to with our grandson.

Me, my daughter and a friend with her son camped here for 3 nights, absolutely stunning views, catching a glimpse of dolphins too one morning which was amazing, the campsite has amazing facilities, the shower blocks were very clean and very nice, campsite extremely well looked after, beautifully situated getting a glimpse of the vast greenery and unspoilt surroundings.
Also whether its a walk to the beach close by or a quick drive to Brighouse Bay you will definitely enjoy the break-taking surroundings. I would definitely recommend this site for families as it is so safe and the children's play area is amazing and we got a lot of peace with the kids being entertained. Will definitely be going back. Very impressed. Oh and the value for money is outstanding.

We stayed here twice last year and loved it. Came back this year wondering how we would feel and if it would come up to our expectations. Well it did and more. This site is so special, superb views, excellent facilities and the owners have to be the most welcoming and friendly owners you could hope to meet. We loved the new pitches
The provided BBQ was used a couple of times, we did sit at the provided picnic table a few evenings. A lot of sites could learn from this one. Loved the fact that the owners came round most evenings with firewood to buy for bbqs. We were fortunate to see a school of dolphins one morning, so special. Also saw couple of buzzards. Can't wait to return next year
Only downside for us is children's play area but we are getting on in years and have no kids of our own so found play area bit too noisy,

As I said to my wife on the first day there, if I was going to plan my ideal camp-site from scratch, this would pretty much be it. I've not much to add to the recent reviews other than to whole-heartedly agree.
It's clear that the owners have put a lot of thought and care into setting the site up and providing what you need without overly sanitising the whole experience.
The washing facilities were always immaculate, even in the worst weather, and the site is very well drained. Yes it's a trek to the nearest shop, but you just make sure you're organised, and there is plenty to do in the local area without having to spend a fortune.
Highly recommended and we're trying to arrange a longer visit next year

We booked for six nights at Solway View with our two kids aged 7 &8 and our dog. We didn't have hook up and were given a pitch on Summer field which had stunning views over the coastline.
The pitch was a great size and included a fire pit and picnic bench which was a brilliant addition!
The ground was pretty hard when we pitched and the pegs that came with our Vango Maritsa were bending for fun! We will be investing in some better pegs!
Around teatime Neil came round selling varying size bags for fires. We got a £9 bag the first night which turned out so be reconstituted sawdustblocks. These took a while to get going but gave off plenty of heat. To be honest though I do prefer a good wood fire!
There are two toilet blocks on site. One is by the main gate and the other was on summer field next to our pitch. They were both nice and clean with hot water on a push button system. The only complaint I had was in the showers on summerfield there was no holder for your bottles and another hook would have been handy.
Our kids loved the playground and had soon befriended the other kids on site and would play happily as long as you let them get away with!
In the local area we visited The Cocoa Bean Factory and Cream o Galloway Ice cream factory and our two (and us) enjoyed these.
As with most tourist places food and drink can be pricey but I found the admission prices to be worth what you got.
We also had our boxer with us and there were plenty of places to walk him. We did have a bit of a challenge as there were plenty of sheep which he would love to chase given the chance!
Worth a walk were White Bay and Senwick graveyard. Both only 5-10 mins away. We had a whole variety of weather while away from lovely warm sunshine to high winds and torrential rain.
After 6 hours of solid torrential rain Neil did a round of the campsite to check everyone was ok.
On the Wednesday night we had a very windy night during which two tents were flattened and we were grateful for our steel poles. Again next morning Neil drove round to check on everyone. Our tent was dry and at this point with only one night left and more heavy rain and wind forecast we made the decision to pack up early as did some others due to leave the next day.
We had a fab time at Solway View and would definitely go back for another visit!

Nice site in nice location, reasonably priced, toilets excellent.
Several decent beaches in area one being just off site 5 mins walk & brighouse bay 5 min drive away.
Hard standing a little too hard & had some trouble getting pegs in.
Nice big pitches.
Probably not enough to do / see in area for us to return but a must see is the David Coulthard Museum at Twynholm.
Access via road to site good.

Just arrived back from seven day stay at this campsite. It is a very spacious campsite with very clean facilities and huge pitches.
There is a good play area and a cookhouse which can be used in inclement weather. It is situated with a nice view and is quite sheltered.
When we stayed there were a lot of families with younger children and understandably the play area could get quite noisy. As our family is now a bit older if we stayed again we would probably ask for a pitch a bit further away from the play area.
There is a washing machine available at the farmhouse and we were charged £5 to use it and then had to dry the clothes afterwards. Personally we found this a bit steep! I would suggest that the launderette in Kirkcudbright would be a better option.

We have just spent eleven nights at Solway View. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. The site owners were most welcoming and helpful and took the time to speak with us each time we met during our stay. Nothing was to much trouble. The pitches were huge and each had its own picnic table and fire pit enabling us to enjoy several evenings around a camp fire. A new facilities block had been open just before we arrived and we found everything to be top class. There was always plenty of hot water.
Although we don't have children of our own it was great to see space for them to play and an adventure playground, which we noted was in use each time we went pass.
Security was good with a gate onto the site which was kept shut at all times when not coming and going.
There was a sink available for dishwashing with hot water next to the new facility. For those rainy days there was also an indoor place available.
The location was simply beautiful with amazing views of the local coast line. The local town was around 5 miles away and provided all the necessary shops.
We will certainly be recommending this site and hope that we ourselves will be able to return some time in the future. It was simply the best location for a quiet, relaxing, restful holiday. WE LOVED IT and wish we could have stayed longer! It is one of the best C&CC sites that we have stayed on

We loved this site. It was well off the beaten track tho' busy so we were able to stay only 1 night. It's a lovely site with great facilities - a new block opened whilst we were there! The views are spectacular, the owners are very friendly & helpful. Each pitch has its own picnic table & fire area - the farmer (owner) comes along with wood to buy to make a fire every evening. We'll definitely be back!
