A very nice site, with a fire pit and picnic table at each area (£9 for a bag of 'logs' from the owner, but it did last us 3 nights).
A pleasant walk to the beach about 10 mins.
Freezer block facility for a donation to charity.
The toilet blocks were excellent but a little crowded for the showers at peak times.
But I would never return because there is no shop on site selling basics, meaning a minimum 10 minute drive, one way for a pint of milk.
But if you can live without a shop, well worth a visit.

We have just returned from a wonderful week spent here at Solway view. From the minute we arrived, to the minute we left, Neil and Patricia could not be more helpful. They are always around to provide as much or as little assistance is required. The site is fabulous. It is well spaced with generous pitch sizes and you have your own good sized space. Also included is a picnic bench and a fire pit, which we used every night with firewood bought for a very reasonable price from Neil (They can even deliver this to you, to save your back). The site facilities are excellent. They include a brand new toilet block in the middle of the site, with showers and washing up facilities, and a cookhouse which is ideal if the weather is not great (beats cooking in a tent hands down every time!) There is also a children's play park, which my kids absolutely love! There is plenty to do for all in the surrounding countryside. Kirkcudbright is about 6 miles away and has a tesco and plenty of shops. Try Polarbites near the harbour for fresh cooked fish and chips. It is in a wonderful setting, overlooking the Solway firth just below. In all, this is a fabulous site, quite probably the best I have ever visited. This is the 2nd time I have been here and will certainly not be the last. Is this the best kept secret? I fear so, but I doubt it will be for long. Congratulations to Neil and Patricia on all that they have done to make this such a fantastic site. Hope to see you again soon.

One of the best sites I have ever visited in my ten years of touring. Hard standing, electric and facilities all at hand and also our own picnic bench and BBQ with logs from the farm.
There are also lovely walks and a lovely little cove within 5 mins` walking distance where on two occasions, we collected mussels at low tide which were delicious when cooked.
The site is kept in pristine condition by the owners without being aware that the are there. I cant recommend this site highly enough and with very fair prices.
I`ve paid a lot more for a lot less.

Lovely site, views amazing. Toilet block superb.
Owners very helpful. Site (caravan) provided with hard standing and grass area with a picnic bench and fire pit/barbecue (wood for sale at farm), very good idea. It was quiet in the week, busier at weekend (Jubilee weekend, so not surprising).
Walk to beach from site, farm walks and woodland walks part of site.
Surrounding countryside beautiful, so quiet for walking.
Kircudbright nearby with shops and amazing fish and fish and chip shop.
If you are looking for a site in this area, this is it.

Nothing new to add to what others have commented on. This site is a gem and within two hours of being there, OH wanted to book for the May half term next year. The owners are brilliant and very helpful.
The big thing for us was having campfires and Neil (or his boys) come round in the early evening to sell logs and firelighting kits. The new toilet block is not up and running yet in the bottom field due to delays by the supplier, but will hopefully be ready soon. We were there over the jubilee weekend and didn't queue for showers/toilets.
The cookhouse was very popular providing two four ring burners for campers to use. The local area is lovely, with plenty to see and do and lots of lovely little bays to wander along. The cocoabean factory is well worth a visit if you have children. Our little one loved it and they get to keep the chocolate they make. The showers are a good size and have plenty of pegs to hang clothes on and a seat, as well as somewhere to hang coats and put shoes just outside the showers.
The tents are not pitched ontop of each other and each pitch has its own fire pit and picnic bench/table. There is a small park for the children and plenty of space for them to play ball games. There are several walks from the site, but my little one was sad he never saw a haggis running around.
We are definitely returning next year and would strongly recommend this site.

We stayed at this site for 8 nights in may and were very fortunate in having brilliant weather all week !
The site is interesting with 3 separate area, s, one for tents, one for wigwams and one for 5 caravans, we were in the latter.
Our pich was very spacious, hard standing with a nice area of grass surrounding it, with good views over the estuary. The shower block seemed very new and was excellent, our only complaint was the shower water flow being on a timer push button ( 12 second flow aprox ).
The site is about 5 mile from kirkcudbright, a nice town by the river, with shops, cafe, s, a few pubs and a tesco.
We had some nice days out in the area with some good walks ( our favorite being kippford and rockcliffe } about 20 mile away from the site. The only thing we struggled to get used to was the opening hours of the pubs. After a nice 5 mile walk we like to have a cold drink and a bit of a snack and we found this a problem because the pubs are closed in the afternoon which surprised us for a tourist area. But we were impressed with the free parking everywhere and also lots of free public conveniences. Made a nice change from England !

We have stayed twice now at this lovely wee site. It is situated on a working farm.
Last October we stayed in one of the 3 wigwams they had at that time and had a great time.
This May bank holiday weekend we stayed in one of the 2 new en-suite Wigwams, they are such a good addition to the original wigwams.
In these wigwams you have a double bed, double sofabed and a single bed, the best part is having your own small bathroom (toilet and wash-hand basin) and also a kitchen sink and draining board.
It is great for when you have children with you as you do not need to venture out to the shower/toilet block at night. The toilet block is well kept and I think it was only built last year shortly before we went in October.
Also you have your own picnic table/bench so after cooking in the cook house or on the barbecue provided in the evening you can come back and eat outside your wigwam.
They also have a wind turbine (Tina the Turner) which supplies power to the site and recycling is encouraged as they have bins and containers for various disposable items (Glass, plastic and cardboard etc).
Great fun had by the whole family not just the kids.

This is the best camp site we have been to so far, a beautiful location and fantastic facilities, there are no negatives.
The site is perfect for families with children we visited for 3 nights with a 5 yr old, 3 yrd old and 9 month old.
The play park is great and the site is so safe, which meant we could relax knowing they were having a great time.
The kitchen and dining area are great, 2 hobs and 2 sinks and even a high chair. The showers were hot and no additional costs and the toilets were always clean.
We had a camp fire every night and it really added to the whole fantastic experience, the boys just loved it. EHU is easily available and the pitch site for our 8 man tent was huge and flat.
The beach was a short 5 min walk through the woods and there was space to play with the football. The wigwams looked great too.
Nearby there is lots to do. The cream of galloway icecream place is close and lots to do, cycle paths, walks, adventure play park, indoor play area, and of course icecream ! The chocolate bean factory is close too and a great day out as well. Kirkcudbright is handy for shopping, there is a tesco and other shops.
Our sons gave it 134 out of 10 and at night round the campfire my oldest son said while roasting a marshmallow 'this is the best day of my life', you cant get a better testimony than that:-). Going back in August and can't wait !

We stayed here over the May bank holiday for 3 nights and were not disappointed!
The site itself was easy enough to find using sat nav and then signage as you approach it.
As an earlier review has mentioned, reception is at the farmhouse before the actual site, where we were greeted by Neil who told us a bit about our pitch, where it was, the facilities, etc.
We also took the opportunity whilst there to purchase wood for the campfire (wheel rims provided)at a cost of either £4, £6 or £8. Neil also came onto the campsite later that night to check everything was ok, which was a really nice touch.
We found our pitch without problem (numbered boards displayed) and have to say that the pitch size is one of the largest I have come across and include the campfire area with wheel rim, wooden picnic table and benches, ehu (where requested).
What I thought was also good was that the pitches were set out around the outskirts of the camping area and most had either fencing/farm buildings/etc to the rear of them offering some form of screening. There is an area in the middle of the camping area for ball games also.
Facilities are also spot on. Nice, clean loos and showers (ladies 2 loos, 2 showers plus disabled), hot water in abundance and a hanging rail/shoe stand for your gear to save dragging it into shower with you.
There is also a kids play area with usual slide/swings/climbing and a rope type swing secured to a big old tree, which went down a storm with the kids.
There is also a campers kitchen where you can cook and eat inside when weather not too good, and notably the owners have filled it with local/site info, magazines through to cutlery, crockery and even cereals, tins of food items in case us campers forget anything - such a thoughtful touch.
I wasn't too sure if there was a fridge though, so may be worth checking if you need to swap ice blocks over or need to keep stuff cool for a couple of days.
Views were fab looking down towards the solway firth and a lovely walk is down through the bottom end of site through the woodland and bluebells which take you to White Bay, itself picture perfect and a hit with young ones equipped with a fishing net!
Whilst there we had a trip to Cream o Galloway to sample the fab ice cream and explore the walks (a nice one too where you can let your dog off lead) as well as outdoor play area for children.
Kircudbright itself has everything you may need from a Tesco, petrol station, post office and takeaways (incl award winning Polar Bites fish and chips!)
We had a great time here, despite our first night hitting lows of -2, the weather was good to us and we would definitely love to return at some point later in year. One point to mention is we had to use some rock pegs as found our pitch to be quite stony/rocks.
A gem of a place and very very reasonable rates too.

Loved this site! Unfortunately we left after 3 nights instead of the 5 we were booked for but this was due to the wind rather than anything wrong with the site. Also thought the £18 a night for 7 man tent, ehu, 2 adults and 2 children was great price!
Pitches are huge, each with picnic bench and fire pit. Arranged in a large semi-circle with a playing field in the middle for kids. Caravans and campervans are in their own area just as you enter the site. Toilets were really clean and the showers were great! There's even a thoughtful clothes hanging area to leave your jacket and shoes on to save filling up the shower space! My children, 9 and 6, enjoyed the small play park to make friends with others. Great walks from the campsite itself and lots to do in the local area, can recommend the smokehouses, yum!
As others have said, a very warm welcome from Patricia on arrival, even though we were later than expected. Neil handed out small chocolate eggs to the children on Easter Sunday, very nice touch.
Can't rate this site highly enough and will definitely be returning, just need to keep fingers crossed for better weather!
