This site is delightful, it's what camping is all about, stunning views and a good base on which to visit surrounding areas. Very well run family site that is extremely welcoming. It is a small site and pets and children made welcome. The surrounding area is stunning, well worth a visit to Gatehouse of fleet, free parking in the town. Kirkcudbright nearby has everything you need including some wonderful fish suppers! What appealed to me was the lack of commercialism it reminded me of camping when I was a child, very carefree and relaxing and in a nutshell a rare find indeed and will definitely put it on my list of must have holidays again:) I would love my grandchildren to experience this type of camping.

This site has scenery that I would be happy to wake up to every morning. The site has basic but very clean facilities, new loo block hopefully being installed in the near future. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The area offers some fantastic walks and lovely little bays.
The site is dog friendly. The town of Kirkcudbright has most of the shops you need for shopping during your stay.
All in all a lovely place to stay.

We think the last reviewer described the site perfectly! A quiet site with really friendly owners who try to be as helpful as they can!
The wheel rims as fire pits is a great idea and having a picnic table with each pitch is good too.
The toilet and showers are basic but clean, but we could of used the posh block on the van pitches if we had wanted!
The cook house however was a godsend as the weather was terrible for the first couple of days so it gave us some much needed dry space1 and free gas too!
Would return without any hesitation!

A lovely unpretentious site in a beautiful location. Stayed with a small group of friends and their children. Kids had a brilliant time, it was very windy but fortunately very dry, and the farmer provides cut down oil drums in which to have a fire which is what camping is all about. The farmer and his wife couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant, really nice people. They gave us a box to borrow which had all sorts of information about the area together with OS maps and wildlife books, an excellent touch. We also had a nightly show from the local barn owls.
There are two sets of toilets and showers, one set is a run down portakabin which we used the most since it was nearer to our tents, the other is fairly new which I can't comment on. The showers were hot and free, but you have to be Houdini to get your clothes off in the small space. The farmer was concerned that we were ok with them. To be honest a long as these things work we're not really bothered about the condition. Kirkcudbright is only 20 mins drive away.
There is a great walk along the coast line through the woods which is a must when you're here.
If you're the simple type of camper that doesn't need loads of amenities on site and just likes savouring the views and soaking up the peace this is definitely the place for you!

We have just come back from a midweek break. It is a lovely peaceful campsite in a beautiful location with stupendous views over the bay. Warm welcome on arrival. Although most of the site is on reasonably level mown grass you may need your levelers. Toilets and showers, which are free, were immaculately clean and water was always hot. A picnic bench and brick barbeque are provided with each good sized pitch. A good capacity electric hookup and chemical disposal just about complete the site facilities. There is no children's play area
We went for a short walk across the farm fields down to the mostly rocky shoreline via an historic graveyard (lookout for the hidden pirate’s grave with the skull and crossbones) which took about 5 minutes from the van. We then wandered along through the woods to the small sandy beach. I’m also scouting out the area for a future fishing trip which is looking promising. During this walk we saw deer, buzzards, pheasants and numerous birds without really trying.
If you want entertainment or a pub within walking distance don’t come here. If you want peace and tranquility this is perfect. Having said that it is only a short car ride to Kirkudbright if you want a meal or an evening in the pub. It is also a good base for exploring the Galloway forest and the Solway coast.
We will return in the near future (with fishing rods)

Totally relaxing site to visit. Superb views down to Kirkcudbright Bay, in a very pretty part of Galloway. Very quiet, on a dead end road and no children's playground noise. Widely spaced almost level pitches on mown grass, each with electric hook-up, a picnic table and BBQ. Spotless unisex toilet block with free showers, one of them accessible for wheelchair users - deposit for key, which prevents passing tourists using the facilities. Although the site is for 5 units, the next door field has several little timber 'wigwams' and these visitors use the same toilet block. Spaniel heaven - off-lead walks over fields (without stock in August) to woods and a beautiful little beach. Owner has also waymarked a pleasant nature trail around his farm.
Surrounding area is a lovely area to visit: Kirkcudbright (Artists Town) nearby has several excellent galleries, pretty fishing harbour and castle; Town Hall puts on excellent exhibitions. Castle Douglas is the Food Town. Gatehouse of Fleet has many walks around the Cally Palace estate. Also worth visiting is the excellent Cream O'Galloway organic icecream farm east of Gatehouse that uses Ayrshire cows' milk. Red Kite trail - guaranteed sightings of dozens of these beautiful birds wheeling above the feeding station near Laurieston.
