I love this site, it was busy but plenty of room and some very good natured campers. The facilities weren't bad but not the best I've ever seen.
The only down side with this site is you cannot book in advance, so if you are like us and have to travel 2.5 hours to get there make sure you have the details of some alternative sites just in case you can't get in. They do however let you arrive from 8am so that is a bonus to get the most from your day.
Whilst we were there I asked the question that they must get asked all the time - why is the drinking water and toilet water yellow - they have advised they aren't on mains water supplies if they have had a lot or rain etc the water can be yellow /brown but it is treated and safe to drink.
This site has a great location - there are two sites here Castelrigg and Castlerigg /Farm - would definitely go again and check out the site opposite as well as it looked good too. The views on all four sides at this site are amazing

This was our second time camping and we thought it was a great site. Its in a fantastic location up above Keswick, with the town centre 30 minutes walk away. The views are great over towards Skiddaw, Blencathra and Cat Bells etc. Its not a remote site but feels out of the way which was great. The site was very well drained and the ground was firm despite all the recent rain.
There was plenty or room to get pitched up and by the end of Saturday when the site was full, it wasn't cramped at all.
Toilets and showers were clean and well maintained. The showers were hot and powerful and at 50p worth it. When we used them they weren't busy but that was late in the afternoon after being out all day.
The silence rule after 10.30pm was welcome especially after a hard days fell walking and the need for a decent kip.
We will go back, no doubt.

My husband and I and 2 children have just returned from a wonderful holiday at this site. Our first visit to the Lake District, what a beautiful place it is. The fabulous view from our caravan was the icing on the cake.
All pitches were on grass but the ground was firm even though the weather was mixed, one particular day after several heavy thundery downpours the ground did feel soft but the land must drain well as within a couple of hours everything was dry and back to normal.
The toilets and showers were kept wonderfully clean, it seemed there was one main clean around lunch time and several other cleans during the day. The wardens did a good job keeping the silence rule and by 10.30pm the site was exceptionally quiet.
We had 2 meals at the Hayloft Cafe and 2 takeaways, the food was to a very good standard, a lot better than we imagined for a camp site and we would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone.
The on site shop was small but seemed to have everything we wanted and the staff were very friendly and helpful giving us information about walks and supplying tickets for the launch ride around Derwent Water at a reduced rate.
The walk down through the wood to Keswick took 30 minutes but we never rushed and could have don't it quicker, the walk to the Castlerigg Stone Circle took about the same time. To anyone using this site a walk to the top of Walla Crag is a must as the scenery of Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake is breathtaking.
We had a wonderful stay at a very well run site which we can happily recommend.

We have just come back from this site.Views where great of the fells and plenty of walks starting from around the site the walk back from keswick town is all up hill and can take a good 30 mins.
All staff very friendly we ate at the hayloft cafe twice one a main meal and the other a full English breakfast both where very nice.
Our only fault was the shower and toilet block was always very busy and we had to go back a few times before we could get a shower at a cost of 50p for 3 mins also a last note the pitch was a little uneven.

What a beatiful site, fells on all sides.
Clean and tidy and well run, very friendly staff. 50p for the showers, kept the queue down, well worth it for the extra, hot, power shower.
Great location for small walks or the big ones like skidall. Dogs enjoyed it too.
I love the 10:30 silence rule. Lots of children around probably not much for them to do on site.
Easy to get there only one small lane to negotiate.Lots of room for everyone and can park your car next to the tent.
Will definitely go again

This campsite was wonderfully quiet after 10.30pm (despite us visiting in the school holidays)- this was just what we needed after a hard days fell walking. The campsite was full but there was plenty of room between outfits and staff were friendly and helpful.
The toilet facilities were very clean but only 3 showers which could have been a bind so we used our own in the van. Didn't enjoy our meal at the hayloft, prices were quite high, staff disorganised and food not great which was a shame as this would be a fantastic bonus to our stay.
Overall I would highly recommend this site - beautiful setting very well run and handy walk down into Keswick.

Stayed here for a weekend with the family.
The location is stunning, surrounded by fells, racing clouds and lakes. It got fairly windy on one night and a few tents struggled.
The camping field is fairly field like, sure it is used for sheep etc in the quieter times. It is exposed.
It is too far from Keswick to walk to with young children.
Services OK.

Very lovely site. Lovely views, lots of walks to do. Not far from Keswick town if you like walking that is.
Stone circle only a short walk away.
Toilets excellent very clean, lots of room in washing up room.
They do stick by the rules of no noise after 10.30pm.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here at end of July. Although the site had many amenities, such as cafe etc we were not impressed
People were allowed to pitch too close to one another, we struggled to park our car somewhere after we came back from the day out and found a couple with a baby under a year old had just pitched up just a few feet away. I know this is a family site, but a little baby screaming all night right next to us wasn't my idea of the relaxing weekend I was hoping for.
Too many children, too many amenities for me. Just simply too busy.
Weather was pap too ! haha, although that wasn't the campsites fault!
The location is on a bit of a hill walk from keswick so hopefully you are a decent walker to walk to and from keswick

We arrived at the site just before 7pm and were able to get a pitch without any problems, although not near a wall as we'd hoped and it became clear that it's a popular site.
It's within walking distance to Keswick, though the walk back wiped me out on the way back- I'm not the fittest person around and it's all uphill - but there is a bus service to and from Keswick.
The field was on a slight slope but flat and we had no problems getting the tent up.
The toilets are clean and we had no problems with them. The staff are very helpful.
We saw the Wardens walking around on the first evening but not the second - the fresh air had wiped up out so we holed up in the tent from about 9pm!
Loved the 'silence after 10.30' rule - which is why we booked it. Some other campers didn't seem to realise the time but it was completely quiet not long after 11pm. One camper that was pitched behind us and to the left used his car to go to the toilet block less than two minutes away - not great when you are about to drop off and he decides to return by driving right next to the tent with headlights blinding you! We decided not to mention anything unless he did it again and I'm not aware that he did (fell asleep before 10 on Saturday!)
That was the only problem with this site - an inconsiderate camper. The site was fab - very picturesque with good walks around it and well maintained. The weather wasn't the best - on Sunday while having breakfast, the wind blew so hard that one of our poles bent and touched my head but I can't fault the site at all!
Can't wait to go back. Hopefully a bit fitter because the area is gorgeous and I want to be able to explore it better!
