This site is for quiet campers only as they DO mean NO noise after 10.30pm. We were told the site was for couples or families, they do not allow people to group together as this had the tendency to be noisy. We have camped at both the sites at Castlerigg and although both sites can be very busy we have found the farm site to be the quieter of the two.

The facilities were excellent and regularly cleaned, the views were spectacular and the staff very friendly and helpful. The site shop sold milk, newspapers and most of what you would need, we were surprised they even had air bed plugs as we lost ours, what a life saver.

The location of the site is idea for walking and once we parked the car on Friday evening we didn't use it again until we left the following Tuesday. The service for filling flasks and freezing freezer blocks is very handy and the money they charge for freezing the blocks goes to the Air Ambulance which I think is a fantastic way to raise money for a good cause.

A handy coffee/tea machine is available if you cant be bothered to make your own and a cold drinks machine is available 24/7. We enjoyed the very tasty bacon and egg sandwiches which were made to order every morning and we were told that next year they are opening a cafe to provide breakfasts and evening meals which will be very handy.

We are planning a return visit at the end of this month and would happily recommend this very well run site to anyone

Overall the site was excellent, it was quiet even with kids on! No noise after 10.30pm and there was no noise, dogs are allowed on site too. The toilet and washing facilities were very clean. The shop on site sold a variety of products from papers to biscuits to meat for BBQs. There is a nice pub about 5 mins walk from the site. Keswick is just 30 mins walk through the woods. We caught a taxi back from Kewsick at just £3.00.

Only one fault, there was no hot water on one of the mornings so no shower or no washing the pots!

We will be visiting the site again, it was great!

Our second visit to Castlerigg Farm and probably not our last.
We arrived about 3pm Friday of the Bank Holiday weekend and were lucky the site full sign was not displayed. We found a pitch against the wall adjoining the public footpath - this offers some shelter and fantastic views.
Fortunately Friday and Saturday the weather was glorious with excellent visibility. Friday we ate in a cafe in Keswick - sorry I have forgotten the name but on the row where George Fisher is - but I wouldn't recommended it anyway.
The Bank Tavern does fantastic hot chocolate with cream and a flake for £1.75 much cheaper than Bryson's Tea Rooms. Just the thing when you have been out on the fells.
The 10.30pm noise cut off does work, it is almost like someone has flicked a switch! The showers were as clean as can be expected after just having the grass cut however there was a toilet without paper both days and a terrible smell in the ladies. It smelt like a really dirty nappy - I didn't investigate! No queueing for the showers when I went and loads of hot water.
We just had two nights due to the poor weather forecast but I am sure we will return.
We had a sneaky peak at Castlerigg Hall and decided their views weren't as good and the tents were all squashed in together.

We had a wonderful couple of nights at this site during the Easter weekend.

We arrived on spec on Thursday afternoon (as you aren't allowed to book), and there was still plenty of space left on the site. We got pitched at the top of the tent field, which is on quite a slope but there are plenty of flat places.

I really liked this site, the wash facilities are clean and 50p in the shower gets you 31/2 minutes. There are laundry facilities and a shop that opens twice a day, once in the morning for breakfast and once at tea time.

At £10.70 for two adults, one car and one tent I thought it was very reasonable and not being able to book means that if you want to go away last minute and haven't booked anywhere, you've as much chance as the next person.

We told the warden on Friday morning that we wanted to stay a second night and it was a good job we got to him early (8am) as the site closed sign was on the gate as we went out at 12pm! It was Good Friday though!

Just out of the gate and turn right and you get to a pub. It is the bar for the Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Campsite. Quite cosy and very warm, with an all vegetarian menu for those that want food.

The campsite is about a 10 minute drive from centre of Keswick or a good 30 minute walk (downhill on way there, up hill on way back!)

Not a noisy site and no problems with children. The views of the hills are spectacular. I didn't realise there were that many stars in the sky!

We will definitely be going back.

Just got back from castlerigg farm, again, visit every year, so thought we should put our bit in. It's a great site, leaning to tents, has 2 fields, the main one is sloping towards the showers, but if you want a flat pitch go to the top of the field, it's a little exposed but some brill views and if you use your guys, no probs.
The shower block is fine, 50p and lovely hot water, this was Easter an we didn't queue. The no noise rule works well and the owners do enforce it which is good, it's a friendly efficient site
Shower block well cleaned each day and you can get hot bacon rolls if you cant be bothered to cook in the morning. Be aware the crag bar across the lane is expensive and poor, so leg it into town, pubs are brill, the George Hotel and the Dog and Gun and the chippy. The Old Keswickian is the BEST! Booths the supermarket on the road to the lake is very good and open late too.
Overall if there wasn't so much to see in the lakes we would go here every time, if you love walking then you will love Castlerigg Farm, go there!

We've visited Castlerigg farm a few times over the past few years, the last time at the end of September 2006, what can I say? It's a small very friendly campsite which is not far from Keswick (about a mile and a half). There are fantastic views all around and fields for the kids to play in so they are away from the tent field.
Castlerigg stone circle is a short walk away from the site and Castlerigg hall campsite which has a pub on site is directly across the lane. The only downside (if you can call it that) is the tent field is on a slight slope and the ground is hard in some places so spare pegs are advised.
Overall a friendly well run site ideal base for touring the north lake district and like I said we've visited a few times and will be going back this year.

Truly wonderful setting. We pitched halfway up the field against the boundary wall and had a 360 degree view of sky and hills. Helpful staff always about. Useful ice-block freezing facility available in reception office - separate from site shop. Found the shower-time perfectly adequate. Site had a good client mix of recreational campers (such as ourselves) and functional campers (camping strictly second fiddle to preferred activity - hiking, cycling, sailing, paragliding etc).

Easy 20-min level walk to Castlerigg Stone Circle - we dropped down from there to the River Greta and followed the old railway line back to town. Lake District walking doesn't have to be arduous! The path down to Keswick was a little more tricky - stout shoes definitely required and we didn't attempt it after dark.

Definitely recommend The Puzzling Place in the town centre - illogical pictures, optical illusions, holograms and an anti-gravity room. Not just for a wet day! Booths supermarket is good - amazing selection of bottled beers. Food in the cycle shop organic cafe was nice but not cheap - welcome to touristville!

Local hotel bar along from the site was fine - comfortable but never too throng and I particularly enjoyed Jennings' seasonal beer Fish King (named for the ospreys on Bassenthwaite).

Great area - great site. Hope to return PDQ.

Arrived early and secured a nice slot on bank holiday weekend. Campsite was easy to find just outside Keswick which for the outdoorsy types as we are was full of great camping/hiking etc shops.

Site was clean. Shop well stocked with most of the essentials if a little on the dear side however, an alternative is the Co_op in town.

That said, the slightly over priced bread and perhaps the wait for the showers (is was bank hols so we can forgive them for that) were the only criticisms we can find.

Site was immaculately clean, toilet (including urinal) and shower blocks were perfectly satisfactory and although not spotless, we are in the middle of a field so a little mud here and there is rather expected; not to mention the fact that we are in walkers paradise. Kids had great fun. Friendly, informative staff. Surroundings spectacular. We wanted a quiet but not too quiet site - requirements met.

Apart from the abysmal weather, a great long weekend had by wife and two kiddies and will not hesitate in recommending this site and returning again.

This is a great site, with lovely lakeland views. The shop is small but adequate. The field we were in had a slight slope. It is a very quiet site after 10.30 at night. I would recommend this site.

I found Castlerigg Farm through UKCampsite.co.uk, my family and I have been regular visitors to the site over the last 2 years. We have just returned from another wonderful stay and I thought it was time to add our comments and tell everyone about this quiet, well run family site.
After reading some of the latest comments about this site I'm wondering if we have all been to the same place. One of the reviews stated there were no urinals, I have never been in the men's toilets but have it on good authority from my husband and son that there are definitely urinals, apparently they even provide a step for smaller children who cant reach. Another review said there was a fair bit of queueing. We have visited Castlerigg farm at different times of the season and at busy time there can be people waiting for showers (depends if everyone wants a shower at the same time) but nothing major and nothing more than you find on other sites, there are also more than 2 showers as was stated. It was also stated it was a 5 min walk to the toilet block, I am not the fastest walker but I can walk from the toilets to the furthest end of the camp fields in 2 minutes, if you walk for 5 minutes you end up at the site across the road.
The site has all the facilities you need and they are always clean. This is a quiet site, there are no club houses or climbing apparatus for children but children do congregate to play cricket and football.
The location of the site is more for couples and families  who like to walk, have peace and quiet and entertain themselves, not for families who like to be entertained.
Our last visit was in the school holidays, obviously there were plenty of children around and late at night we did hear the lady warden ask one family to keep their voices down and by the response she got I'm glad I don't have her job. The family were very vocal and kept repeating "Were on holiday, were only talking. The warden tried to explain the whole field of campers were also on holiday and didn't want to hear the noise coming from this one tent. Needless to say the family were asked to leave the next day, apart from that every time we have been to the site the 10.30pm No Noise rule has been followed.
Prices are clearly displayed in Reception window and as one review stated about being charged less than she thought, £16.80 instead of £22.00, maybe if they checked they would find £22.00 is the cost of the other site across the road, you pay more at the other site as the site is bigger and has a bathroom and TV room.
We have always found the staff friendly and very helpful, maybe at busy times it isn't possible for staff to chat as much with customers as they would normally but even so the atmosphere is always pleasant and happy.
We will definitely return and can recommend this site to anyone.
