Just spent the bank hol weekend, what can I say, it was brill, been to a few campsites and this beats them all hands down. Great area for the kids to play and plenty of walks for the dogs. Very quiet area on a working lock, very friendly people that run the campsite. Clean toilets and showers, not many of them but they are waiting planning permission to build more (work in progress). Very good site for tents , flat ground and sheltered and great views. Also has a cafe that does good food and home baked cakes and buns and a small bar. The nearest shop is about 1/2 mile away and stocks everything you could need but is a little pricey, but easy enough to drive to nearest supermarket about 15 mins away. Lovely to sit and watch the boats going through the locks and having a beer on a sunny day, booked again for the next 2 bank hols

This is a lovely site, very relaxing and the owners very nice. Food at the lockhouse was good and reasonably priced. It was great watching the boats going through the lock. There's a bus picks up just near the camp takes you into York. The only downside to our visit was when we visited the College Arms up the road from the camp which was fine if you don't mind being ignored by the landlady when waiting to be served[not so if your one of the squaddies from the raf base] then not good for families when the men from the base decide to go naked only to the landladys amusement. However don't let this put you off the site as it is well worth a visit

We only stayed at this site for 2 nights. The welcome was warm and friendly and our pitch was well placed and level. On site bar and restaurant was reasonably priced and food was great. Our only gripe was the age and condition of the shower and toilet facilities and the fact we had to pay to use the showers! We will probably visit this site again as we enjoyed our stay.

March 2005 Visited Linton Lock over Easter 2005. The owner (Ian) and his wife who run the site are top class and very friendly. The weather wasn't the best and it rained so heavilly that Ian asked one of his friends with a 4x4 Shogun to come and help get some of the vans off the field on Easter Monday.
The food in the cafe/restaurant was extremely good and not very expensive.
Whilst the showers were newly installed the toliet block could do with some upgrading.
Ideally located for York, I would utilise this site again without hesitation.

Sept '03 Husband is a fisherman so we love this site, he fishes while I chill out for the weekend. Showers are £1.00 but last for ages and are reasonably clean. The owners are very helpful and being able to have your Sunday dinner before leaving to go home is a blessing. We will be going again for definate...

Aug 2003 Visited this site 1st week in Aug 2003 during the heatwave.Campsite small (10-15 pitches) but level and grass cut short. Limited No's of hookups available. No shop on site, but well stocked shop in village (10 min walk, 5 in car). Pub and resturant situated in lockhouse, both small and a bit expensive for us, 2 portions of haddock and chips, 2 small dishes of vanilla ice cream and 2 pints £28-50. But we did use the bar most nights at £2-50 a pint, but enjoyed sitting at the tables outside watching the narrow boats and cruisers navigating the lockgates.
Toilets situated behind pub were small (1 shower cubicle £1 for use of), 2 small sinks with hot water supplied by small heaters. They were cleanish but needed work doing on them.
Landlord and owner friendly and easygoing Re pitching times and payment, quoted £140 for the week for T/Tent (with E/hookup) and small 2 man tent(no charge) Paid £40 to reserve pitch, when I went to pay balance on monday night, showed me receipt for £85 and poured me a pint, came back to accept my payment for pitch, told me to give him £60, total of £100 for the week. Charged £5 per day to fish in the River Ouse (campsite right on bank of river) Went to pay him on the friday for weeks fishing and he told me not to bother as we had been good guests and caused no trouble on site. As said the site was small and quiet 4-6 tents at any time on site, but if you want a small rural quiet site, can ignore toilets/showers and resturant prices, I would, on the whole, recommend this site as my family enjoyed the scenery, location, hospitality and quietness.
We will probably use this site next year as we will be in the area again.
