We spent 5 nights here as part of a package with Red Funnel ferries.
The welcome was very friendly and detailed although there was some confusion about our booking.
We chose the Meadow Bluebell hardstanding area as one tree there gave us a bit of welcome shade in the hot sunny weather and it was also more secluded and quieter.
The outdoor pool was an absolute delight and though busy on our first day, we virtually had it to ourselves on subsequent days, even though the site was almost full.
We ate in the cafe on our first evening and although basic, the food was tasty and good value. The bar wasn't too busy and we enjoyed one drink there, although the background music was slightly intrusive.
Both shower blocks were open and were absolutely spotless.
As a base for cycling, Wroxhall was fine and we rode easily to Godshill, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor.
We were a bit disappointed with the Botanical Gardens, expecting much more colour, but the Pavilion Cafe was excellent.
We used the local bus to get to Osborne House. It turned up over half an hour late and packed solid, only letting a few of us on. Additionally, the driver didn't advise us of the offer for 24 hour group ticket and we paid £11 too much. However, the driver of the second bus, from Newport, told us we had been ripped off and advised us to complain back at the bus station. After a bit of a fuss, we were given a refund, which we spent in the Griffin pub in Godshill on the way home.
Altogether this is an excellent site and we would certainly revisit if ever we went back to the IOW.

Great staff in the reception and very helpful. We had a grass pitch which was slightly undulating and some are sloping, there are flat pitches both on grass and hard standing. Cafè was closed whilst we were there and the bar stank of cigarette smoke on our first visit to it but was fine a couple of nights later. Pool looked very good although we didn't use it. The showers in the old block were closed and in the new block they get a 2 out of 10, push button lasting a few seconds and no pressure at all, why do sites insist on push buttons?
20p hairdryer in the Ladies did not work! Lots of stuff to do around the island.
Will return if it remains open to tourers, a static caravan dweller was telling us the site was up for sale and an offer was on the table, she suspected a vast majority of the site would be used for chalets as some of the statics had already been taken over by a holiday company, not sure how true it all was but there was also the same conversation going on in the bar a few days later!

A really lovely site with great facilities and beautiful location. Lots of walks nearby and half hourly bus service to other towns closeby. Dog friendly, staff very pleasant and helpful. An easy recommendation.

Absolutely our favourite campsite. Cannot fault it. We have have been every year for 5 years and book the following year before we leave. The staff are accommodating and friendly and the facilities are clean and well maintained. The site is ideal for families. It is safe, contained and has a play park and playing field. Our children (15, 13 and 10) have the freedom to roam and make friends. They all look forward to returning each year and catching up with friends from previous years, such is the obvious level of repeat business. The evening entertainment is totally centred around families and has a fantastic ‘one big family’ feel to it. The location is great with easy access to the whole of the island, great beaches nearby, idyllic villages, good pubs, and fantastic walks to Godshill and Old Shanklin. The pool has recently been refurbished and the on site cafe serves good food. Give it a try! You won’t regret it!

Booked 7 nights Spring Bank Holiday week. Site organised Red Funnel ferry tickets at discounted price. When booking, we were advised there were only 2 pitches available. On arrival, there were plenty available so we moved to a lighter, sunnier pitch at the bottom section of the site (backing on to residential houses). This was a good move. Two shower blocks - one newer. Older block had better showers (constant hot water) whereas the more modern block was push button and dribbled out (difficult to rinse hair properly). 20p coin operated hair dryer (didn't work in older block). Good takeaway pizza, with picnic benches next to outdoor pool area. Didn't use entertainment and it was not intrusive if you didn't want it. Great location for walks - multitude of footpaths. No shops in easy walk. Short walk to Appuldurcombe House (empty shell). Longer walk to Godshill which is a pretty village but gets very busy. Old railway line walk to Shanklin (took us an hour) and longer walk to Ventnor across the Downs. Both lovely seaside towns - don't miss Shanklin's old village for picture postcard cottages and the Chine (wooded gorge with waterfall). Next to Ventnor is Steephill Cove which is worth a visit - picturesque and good seafood eating opportunities. Ventnor botanic gardens are huge. Ate in Cantini (Italian bakery/bistro) in Shanklin, Fisherman's Cottage Shanklin, Spy Glass Inn Ventnor - all recommended. Loved the nearby donkey sanctuary (free). Used No 3 bus a few times to and from Ventnor. Also used Island Coaster to The Needles (extremely busy) and other bays along the way. We loved the site and our holiday in Isle of Wight. Great weather helped. Suggestion: If you're not happy with the pitch allocated, have a look round to see what's available and ask to move. Not sure why they don't let you choose if there's plenty of space.

Only intended to stay for a couple of nights but in the end we stayed for 7 as it was so good.
Very quite this time of year as only a few others on site but grounds and especially the facilities were immaculate with very friendly staff/owners(?) on hand.
Lots of wild life on site (red squirrels, woodpeckers, buzzards, jays etc) and seen from the campervan window.
We will definitely use this wonderful site again when we return next time.

Our first time of camping on the Island, as normally the cost of the ferry has put us off. We got a deal through Red Funnel ferries for 3 nights including Ferry at £130 for 2 adults and three children.
The site is nicely appointed and we were told we could pick from any of the available pitches that were circled on the map that they gave us. The pitch was big enough to accommodate our 6 man tunnel tent and our car, and still had room to site our table and chairs outside. The Facilities block on the camping field was very modern and very clean. The on site shop was modestly priced, there was also a cafe which was good. The free swimming pool was very popular with our kids, and a nice addition to the site. The on site staff were all very helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay at this site again.

On arrival to Appuldurcombe Gardens, we were greeted by a very friendly Lady ( I believe the owner), who showed us the our caravan in the Orchard, who showed us around the caravan, explaining where everything was kept & stored.
Should we need any help she said just come to the office & she would be pleased to help.
The caravans were laid out with plenty of space between, the grass & gardens were extremely well kept has was the whole site & the whole area was well eliminated.
The site has a swimming pool, licensed bar & restaurant, that served quality food at a very reasonable price.
The site also accommodates touring caravans & tents, all the pitches have EHU, with really good size pitches & the facilities block, was better than you would find at most hotels.
I am a camper of 30 years experience & would have loved to have camped, but was recovering from major surgery.
We were a party of four, my wife & I along with my brother & his wife visiting from Australia, they had never visited the Isle of Wight, they enjoyed all the places we visited during the week of our stay & commented on the quality & cleanliness of Appuldurcombe Gardens.
I would recommend this site for either statics or touring, every one was friendly & the site was excellent value for money.
May I wish your site every success for the future & may I thank you for a very pleasant week at Appuldurcombe.

A lovely, quiet site with views across open fields and big skies. Superb shower block, lovely staff, great location. Plenty of advice from the warden about local attractions and superb places to eat offsite. We were there out of season, before all facilities opened, but they looked good.

This was our first visit to the IOW for 24yrs, and we couldn't remember much about it, but what a lovely island, and so much to see and do. We had a lovely holiday with the weather being quite decent.
The site is brilliant, it offers everything from being a nice quite site with plenty to offer. Toilet blocks were super and kept very clean and tidy, large pitches, the grass and flowers were kept tidy and neat, Heated swimming pool very nice but on a sunny day at times a lot of the younger generation broke the rules, but other than that very pleasant. Would like to of seen the bar open around 5ish instead of 7pm but the bar was friendly and lots of entertainment for those that wanted it, we prefer early doors after a full day out and before we eat, our personal choice. But all in all a very good Caravan park. Would we go back 100% yes, and would recommend it.
