We have just arrived back from a lovely relaxing break here. The pitches were all freshly mown, well laid out and clearly marked.
The brand new toilet block is immaculate always clean and never had to queue.
All the staff were very friendly and always willing to answer any queries.
The site was fairly busy but still had the air of peacefulness. We enjoyed just sitting and listening to the countryside!
The cafe served some gorgeous food, and my daughter agrees that the milkshakes are to die for!
We really loved our holiday here, except for the weather but that is not the sites fault.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable albeit wet and windy week at this great site. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children and found this site perfect for all. The entrance to the site is single track and could cause problems if you are towing but the owners do warn you of this and operate quite a strict arrival time policy.
The tent pitches do vary in size but are clearly marked and all have EHU. There are two toilet blocks, one brand new and one of the best I have seen. They were really warm and always clean with ample showers and toilets. The washing up facilities next to the new block were excellent too & much better than the other one which only has 3 sinks.
The shop and cafe do have limited opening times & the bar only opens in the evening. However, the children's entertainment was really good & kept my 3 kids occupied.
There are a lot of large trees around the perimeter of the site & I was concerned on a couple of nights as we were pitched
Under one & the wind really did get strong. We woke in the morning to find 3 large branches had come down narrowly
Missing the rear of our tent.
My only gripe with this fantastic site is the booking system in operation. If you are a regular you can reserve the same pitch year after year. The owner is reluctant to take new bookings in fear of upsetting the long standing regulars, hence you could possibly never get the pitch you want. However if you don't mind whereabouts you pitch you are fine.
Overall a fantastic site which I would definitely return to.

Another lovely visit to this site. We treated ourselves to two weeks this time and we didn’t want to leave.
Once again we booked the ferry through the site and it was much cheaper than booking direct with Red Funnel.
On arrival we were greeted at reception by a lovely lady who explained that the new amenities block had not been completed, due to the adverse weather earlier that month and the pitch we had selected (17 The Meadow) may be a little bit of a walk to the loos. We were offered a selection of pitches, all more than suitable for us, however we still chose to pitch in The Meadow. It was beautiful and a wonderful pitch for a large tent in a quiet corner of the site.
We were aware upon booking that the pool would not be open until the end of our stay but due to the beautiful weather it was opened earlier than planned and was very welcome. It was wonderful to have a dip in the pool and then chill out on the sun loungers. The shop was open for a couple of hours in the morning for basics and newspapers. It was a wonderful touch having a ‘Good Morning’ written on the newspapers each day. The shop extended its opening times as we were leaving, in line with the start of the high season.
The café / take away was closed for most of our stay but opened near the end and, judging by the menu we saw, offered great value for money and used locally sourced products.
The new amenities block was completed during our stay and is fantastic. 6 new washing up basins outside but under cover. Inside is beautifully tiled throughout with huge mirrors above the sinks. There is a modern hairdryer with large make up mirror in an area set away from the sinks. There were 6 roomy shower cubicles and 1 huge cubicle for family showering and plenty of toilets. There was also a separate disabled shower/toilet room. Both amenities blocks are kept meticulously clean all the time and have sensor lighting for energy saving. Although the new block is large and spacious it is not intrusive and the material used and planting, soften the whole look.
The new terraced pitches look great and make the area much more workable. Each pitch throughout the site now has electric hook up and many pitches have their own water tap and bins close by.
I did wonder if the wildlife on site would be adversely affected by all the work that has been carried out but was pleased to see the bats, red squirrels, rabbits and wild birds are all still there. We spend many a night watching a spectacular display by the bats flying over the tent
We were also amazed to see that the launderette is still £3. 00 per large load. There are washing lines near the reception area.
There is limited free Wifi on site and we did manage to get onto it but only in the reception – bar area.
We only visited the on site club on our final night and the evening’s entertainment of children’s games and a disco was great family fun. The bar offers a great selection of drinks at very competitive prices.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff who made our stay so wonderful. This site is first class and the staff work so hard to make everyone’s holiday special.

Found this site very peaceful. The bar is very small and didn't open till eight o'clock pm
It has a small stream running through it, again very nice
The toilets and showers were kept very clean. The shop was not open for long, shut at ten am.
The site was kept very clean and tidy. May be better in peak season regarding facilities
There was plenty to do around and is lovely place to visit
Everyone was friendly
We went out most days with my disabled mother, we had no trouble at all with wheelchair access
We visited the steam train and the two zoos on the island,
Needles was very good for children and adults
There are lots of things to do

We visited Appuldurcombe as a group of two families in June half term 2010. The site was ideal and we had two large flat pitches next to each other with electric hookup and a nearby water tap.
The swimming pool was open and although a bit chilly for me the children spent ages playing in a safe environment. The playground is also excellent for children.
Toilet facilities were clean with an unlimited hot water supply which we couldn't fault. There is a great on site cafe and shop which we used every day.
For getting around the IOW, the campsite is ideally located for Black Gang and Robin Hill. We spent the day in Ventor which is a lovely Victorian Seaside town.
The campsite staff booked our ferry at a slight discount and made the process of getting to the site easy and hassle free. I've booked to go again in 2012 as we had such a lovely time.

We arrived at the site on the 16th March, the first day of the season.
Directions to the site were followed as the brochure described and not via satnav ( which we don't have) which would take you up a very narrow lane with the entrance to the site at the end via a you turn, not good for long vehicles and as for anyone towing someone would need to be very patient.
Later during our stay we saw two motorhomes negotiating the satnav route, not for me!
We were made welcome and directed to a new hardstanding which had it's own water point and gully making it easier for filling up and emptying, the chemical waste was nearby in a coverd enclosure.
The existing toilets were closeby, the new being built and nearing completion, there was very little noise from this work.
Site facilities such as shop, bar pool etc were out of season but washing up and laundry use was available.
We normally park our MH and just walk and use local transport, this proved to be excellent.
Wildlife in and around the site was plentiful.
Each walk, of which there were many, proved interesting.
We ate at the Four Seasons in Wroxall a short walk from the site which welcomed our dog and served a good meal.
In all a most enjoyable stay with kind weather.
Holiday booked through Red Funnel which offered good discount.
Slight downside being a)showers because of lack of campers took a while to heat up, got used to it b)hardstanding formed from broken down tarmacadam which proved gritty so had to be careful not to take via shoes into van, regime used to offset this, made sure external mat was in place

Booked the site direct with ferry crossing included. Upon booking we were advised clearly not use the sat nav to find our way to the site, we had no problem finding the site via directions given.
We had a fantastic 2 wks staying here. All staff very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. They were keen to make sure everything was ok during our stay. We stayed in the meadow area which was a fully serviced pitch, very nice. Will a good view of the football pitch and the stream at the bottom of the field.
Toilet blocks very clean. Playground and pool area lovely. Very nice bar and club house on an evening. Spent most of our days either at the site pool or Steephill Cove, which was the most beautiful seaside hide away. You could only walk to Steephill, no traffic allowed. Very clean beach and lovely cafe for a milky coffee and generous slice of cake!
Godshill was a favourite place too.
We re-booked for summer 2012 as soon as we got home, this time for 3 weeks.

Another fantastic holiday at Appuldurcombe, re-living childhood holidays with my own children. The improvements made to the site since 2010 are excellent, with a new shower block (that have been told is to be a permanent structure next year, and an extension to the electric and water points into the meadow. Remains very quiet and child friendly, staff happy to help and the cafe again provides excellent meals, served by friendly staff. Only moan was the new shower cubicles, which are temporary. The water was often too hot, and the cubicles, a little on the small side. Have already booked again for next year!

Another excellent holiday spent here at Appuldurcombe Gardens. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The campsite is very clean and tidy. Shower blocks are always clean.
Never had to queue for a shower in the two weeks we were there. The clubhouse was very enjoyable with family entertainment on every night. I have never been to such a relaxed campsite – just what you want for your main holiday.
The whole site is safe, welcoming and addictive – lol – already booked for next year – again! And as for the café – excellent food – and plenty of it!
The staff in the café are always friendly and happy and make you feel really welcome at all times. Overall, I would highly recommend this campsite and look forward to seeing you all next year.

This was the third time we've visited this site and we'll all be very happy to go back again next year.
My wife and I find the site quiet & pleasant (and flat - important if you're in a tent) and our 3 girls love the pool, play area and club house entertainment.
The Shower & toilet facilities are always spotless and a second block should be ready for next year.
The on site cafe is excellent, friendly staff and tasty food.
Within easy reach of Shanklin & Sandown and only a 5 minute walk to the IOW Falconry centre and Appuldurcombe House.
We would heartily recommend this site to all.
