Great stopover site if you are heading North or South on the A1.

Facilities are what would appear to be rugby changing rooms but are spotlessly clean and despite the site being fairly busy we didn't have to queue.

The EHU pitches are located round the edge of the field and are pretty limited but as we were only staying one night it wasn't a problem to do without EHU.

Good location for visiting Alnwick - the town centre is only a 20 minute walk away.

Booking was a bit of a problem as we got no response to the on-line booking form we submitted and tried phoning several times before we eventually got an answer.

At £10 per night however, it was excellent value and we would certainly use this site again, if only as a stopover.

Large field with plentiful room, good facilities, lovely welcome in the club house.

This was a last minute stop, We were booked on the pub site on Alnwick moor shepherds pub, not good the field was a mess, toilet etc could do with a good clean. So we came away, went to the town centre, asked around the tourist information told us to go to the Alnwick Rugby club,

What a great time we had, very friendly and helpful. Thanks. : )

This place is a really great surprise. We booked it last minute as we'd needed to change our plans. I must confess when my wife told me we were staying at the Rugby club, my heart did sink a little.

I will be honest. It's a campsite at a Rugby Club, so it's not going to set your world on fire if you stay for a week. There aren't many electrical hookups and the site is quite open if it's windy.

That said the facilities are literally spotless, my wife loved them. It's brilliant. Alnwick town centre is lovely and is a 20 minute walk from the site. There is a supermarket 5-10 minutes walk away.

It was cheap as chips at £10 a night and it's a 5 min drive from the A1 (but you can't hear it when you're there).

In summary I would be an idiot to suggest that everyone books here for their holiday, it's not suitable for that in my opinion. However I can tell you that anytime I'm off to Scotland in the MoHo we'll be calling in here for a stopover on the way.

Located 1 ½ miles outside Almwick and just of the A1 this site provides an ideal location if you do not mind limited site facilities. The site is situated on the boundary of the old rugby pitch adjoining the adjacent cricket ground on grass. Which is fine in dry weather but would cause problems in wet waterlogged conditions especially with a heavy unit/motorhome.

The club has allocated the overflow changing facilities (male and female) for the site use which were spotlessly clean with two toilets and four showers in each. However no wash up area and only one site water tap. The site has room for 16 EHU’s, which provided ideal at the time of stay but the club also allows rallies which would push the limited site facilities. WiFi is available, but only at the clubhouse which is open from 6. 30.

Almwick is a charming town with local shops, pubs, eateries and of course Almwick Castle and Gardens. A Sainsburys supermarket is located just outside the site entrance and Lidl in the town centre.

At £ 15. 00/night with electric overall ideal for short stay.

Arrived on site where we had booked a return visit to a site we know well, not manned but always made welcome by staff when they come on site. If I had been there for first time I would have turned around and left by the rally that was there as they where unpleasant to us a site does not need a rally like that to spoil what is a great site toilets very good and as I say staff and groundsman all make us welcome,

After a little difficulty getting in touch with the place (the phone number listed here is for the club house and never gets answered, at any time of day; and the website link here is defunct) I managed to contact the very lovely and helpful owner (through the booking enquiry link on this web page).

The toilet / shower block is excellent and clearly very new. The site as a whole lacks charm and, parking on the edge of the rugby pitches, is a little windswept - but the location is fairly convenient for Alnwick town centre (15 minute walk) and there's a co-op pretty close to the club. Didn't try the club house as preferred to check the real ale on tap in town. Didn't see a dish wash area. £15 a night including hook up for the two of us; pretty good value.

Stayed at this site October 2013. It is a well equipped site. Toilets and showers newly refurbed. Very pleasant people and were made to feel real welcome. We will be looking forward to revisiting the site again next year. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a few days away, loads to do and see. The pubs in the town centre are nice friendly places and even a late opening night club type place for the younger ones. Shops are very close by also and easy to get to

We have been here before some 5 or 6 years ago and I liked it then. Returning now we can see there have been some improvements made. The club has built an extension with new showers and toilet facilities.

We arrived late on the Friday evening (9pm)and pitched on the bottom ground to the rear of the goal posts. Ground is nice and flat and great for tents. We had good view over the pitch towards the clubhouse. Someone came by on the Saturday afternoon to collect our money. £20 for two nights for 2 adults which I didn't think was bad at all.

We went into the clubhouse on both evenings for a few drinks and were made to feel right at home by everyone there. It was a lovely atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced too.

The facilities at the club are brilliant. Super clean and all brand new with hot showers and plenty of room for changing.

We saw quite a few people having a bar-b-q and I think as long as it is raised from the grass then this is ok.

You can hear some road noise from the A1 but after a while you don't notice this so I wouldn't say this was a negative for us. It didn't keep me awake so I was happy.

There is a Co-op just up the road from the site which might take you ten minutes walk if that and there is lots of choice there.

Alnwick is about fifteen/twenty minutes walk from the site. Plenty to do and see around there and lots of pubs and nice places to eat. We spent most of our day at Amble fishing from the peer and then on the Sunday we went to the market at Amble. We drove to Amble and this took about fifteen minutes but Warkworth and Alnmouth are closer and just as lovely.

Overall a great weekend and two nights stay. Very comfy, good washing facilities, friendly staff and people at the club. A very homely feel and we will definitely come back soon.

Thanks again - Lisa & Richard from Harrogate.

We're a family of 2 adults and 4 children we've been staying here for 7 nights. We love a basic bog standard site that keeps the costs down and is usually quiet. This site fits our bill perfectly.

The facilities at the moment are adequate with the portable loos and portable showers. The rugby club are currently having an extension built and so next year the facilities should be a lot better.

There's a large field for tents which has good drainage. And like the previous review there were two camping club rallies going on but they were mainly caravans and motor homes.

So although there were plenty there there weren't many tents, as such it didn't feel busy. Just a point about bbq's that yes they are allowed but only as long as they are raised off the ground. The lovely lady that collects the money had to come and tell us and that the boss wouldn't be right pleased. She suggested us finding a couple of bricks. There's nothing on the website about it nor any signs up anywhere. Plus the site is unmanned during the day, so there's no-one round to ask.

Will definitely come back. It's a beautiful area and the site is in such easy access to everything. We paid £15 per night and that wasn't per person it was for a large family tent.

Just back from spending 4 days here. The campsite is on a large rugby field with electric hookups down one side (only available if you phone to book 1st), 2nd time we have been. There is loads of space, everyone was friendly (2 caravan rallys on at same time as us, so was pretty full). Only downside is the toilet/shower block. 2 showers & 3 toilets for ladies, communal showers for men - not enough for the site being full. Only cold showers in the mens all the time we were there, although we were assured that the timer was set properly to heat the water. We were there 2 years ago, and the shower block was to be upgraded then, but it was exactly the same this time. 1 tap for drinking water, no where to put waste water and no where to wash dishes, unless you use the sinks in the toilet. Unmanned site, but a very nice woman comes round to collect money at night. Clubhouse is opened every night except Mondays, but is also used for outside activities too. There was a kids party and an End of Season party on while we were there, and you are only allowed into the smaller bar when something else is on. Quite cheap for drinks though. Dogs are allowed on site so long as they are kept on lead, and we didn't come across anyone who didn't comply.

There is a Sainsbury's just 2 mins down the road, beside Argos and Homebase. Also a sports centre with swimming pool beside Sainsburys. Just past there is a 24 hour garage, which is quite expensive though. In the other direction from the campsite, there is a chip shop 2 mins away, which is quite good, but we preferred a chinese takeaway called Hot Wok, which is in the town - delicious and cheap!BBQ's are allowed. Alnwick town is only 10 mins walk. Handy for the A1, as its just beside it, although you don't hear any noise from the cars. It only cost us £10 per night (that covers 2 adults & 2 kids, no matter if you have caravan, small tent or large tent). Electric costs £2 extra per night. Kids have freedom to run about but no play area. Good site if you only want very basic amenities.
