We tend to avoid chain type sites just for personal preference, the Hoburne sites on the other hand are different and we cannot fault them. We stayed at Bashley on a few occasions some years back and decided to go back this year and were not disappointed. The pitch was a nice size and the toilet blocks were kept nice and clean. The site facilities are great and cater for most ages (we had a 9 and 15 year old with us and both were kept occupied). The indoor pool complex is good and we had lovely weather when we were there but they didn't have the manpower to open the outdoor pool even though they said it should be open. The shop is well stocked and has everything you need - I got fleeced in there a fair bit by the children. The crazy golf is always a bit of fun and the play area is a nice big size albeit a bit of a trek from the touring caravan site. As we pretty much had everything on site we didn't feel the need to come off site. I cannot fault this site or the staff and will definitely be paying them another visit.

We returned here, despite previous bad experiences, but having being reassured things had improved we gave it a go.
We booked our unit for the half term week, and had friends join us on the Monday. We soon found a 'few' issues that we worrying.
Pitches have to be vacated by 10am, no excuses. But you can not arrive before 12, this allows for the pitches to be checked etc. All someone seems to do is tick off that it's empty and walks on to the next pitch.
The toilet block is the next issue, yes it's kept clean, however we were there a week, and despite telling them on arrival the chemical waste point was overflowing, on leaving it was still the overflowing, and nothing had been done. Lots of excuses but none acceptable. They didn't even bother locking it off and directing campers to use the one in the adjoining beech touring field. Seems the touring fields are not a priority for them during the busier times.
The clubhouse is great, however there is now more and more statics on this site, and it now clearly shows that the function room could not cope with the numbers. It is standing room only, children can easily be lost in the crowd, and it is naturally noisy. We have 3 young boys, and have been coming here for 5 years, so we have seen the good times here.
Site has the usual shop, laundry etc facility units on sites, nearest shops are about 45 minute walk, best use the car as it's a bit of a walk through the housing estate.
The restaurant and adults bars are fine, still serve lower than pub priced drinks, food is ok, but all junk fast food, pizza, burgers etc, Rising Sun pub a short drive away is simply superb, great food, great New Forest pub atmosphere and great prices. (no I am not on commission)
The sites facilities have had some attention, but as mentioned by other, swimming pool lockers are hit and miss, some work, some have doors missing, and are very short on the number of changing rooms! No family room here, and changing rooms small if you have kids with you.
Amusement arcade has some new machines, they award tickets for winning, but you need to collect 1000 tickets for a cheap football! Lots of cheap £1 machines all around the reception area and bar etc, so you'll be pestered 24/7 there.
The pitches flooded with heavy or persistent rain, despite attempts to stop this (Filling up with more gravel clearly is not going to cure that) and the grass areas easily become boggy and muddy.
Biggest gripe to this layout of pitches is access! Toilet block is in the centre, pitches arrange around the outside, yet there are road ways for cars, but no footpaths. So your children have the option of either cutting through someones pitch or walking around on the roadways, and of course everyone drives at walking pace and is looking out for children aren't they. So hardly surprising people put up line after line of windbreakers to stop the cutting through of campers.
There is a lot going for this site, but at nearly £50 per night, it's falling well short compared to what other commercial sites are able to offer for the same money. It's a pity as our kids loved this site, but we will not be returning next year

We have just returned from our third visit to Hoburne Bashley and were not disappointed.
Generally it isn't the kind of site we would visit as it is large with a lot of static caravans.
However it is split into many different areas and is extremely peaceful and never seems crowded or over busy. It suits us for a short break as there are two swimming pools(indoor and outdoor)and other facilities such as a bar/restaurant, shop etc.
We stayed in Beech, one of two touring fields. The pitches are well maintained with a combination of tarmac and shingle for the units. All pitches have grass and hedging and are therefore quite private. The toilet block is in the middle of the field so easily accessible. It was always clean and never busy. The shower cubicles were spacious but the shower only flowed for 6 seconds per push of the button which was very frustrating! The Wardens were quietly effective helping new arrivals, litter picking and mowing.
The swimming pools were lovely with sitting/sunbathing areas and lifeguards were present. The bar and food prices were reasonable. However the food was quite basic and unimaginative. OK for a lunchtime snack I suppose. There are many other activities to keep the children entertained - tennis, crazy golf, basketball, table tennis, pool, archery, play areas etc.
The New Forest with all it's attractions is easily accessible.
There is a walk through the woods (with bins) which is great for the early morning/evening dog walk.
We visited just out of high season so the pitch fees were reasonable, however in high season it would be too expensive for us (approx £46 per night). The charge is per pitch including up to six people. Well we are a family of three so I feel we are subsidising larger families. In fact there were a lot of extended families in one unit with awning annexes etc - value for money for them, but not for us! We also had to pay £3 per night extra for the dog. The 10 am departure is also a bit early and the Wardens are obviously keen to ensure that everyone leaves by then!
Would we return? Yes but only in low season.

Just arrived home from bank holiday week at this site and my first comment is totally out priced in the market we paid over £50 per night for 2 adults 2 kids a dog and tourer most expensive yet and one that I have least enjoyed.
Very regimented loads of rules and they are enforced. Flat pitches but we were in the middle of the back field and everyone walks over the pitches to get to the shower block 2 days in and nearly every pitch had windbreaks on it to block the lazy ones who couldn't be bothered to use footpath entry to the loos.
Shower blocks ok, floors need a good bleach and scrub possibly the worst push buttons I have ever used literally on for 10 seconds so you need to keep your finger on the button , I am 5ft 4 and had to bend my knees to fit under the fixed shower heads they are extremely low. Very basic feel to them bright blue and yellow formica had a public toilet feel to it, 3 showers for the whole field but I think most people showered in their vans as it wasn't a nice experience to use them.
Grubby pot wash, push button taps with good supply of hot water.
As stated in other reviews you need to be off pitch by 10am and it is enforced I feel they could extend this to 11pm easily. They do not offer late checkout which was crazy with the amount of empty pitches I feel you should be able to check at reception the night before and if the pitch is free be able to stay until 4pm for a nominal charge as nearly all sites I have ever visited use this policy. I find it quite crazy that at 9. 50 you are being told its a definite exit time of 10. 00 am when you are clearly packing away and there are loads of empty pitches !
Didn't use the club as it was packed, nice arcade, well stocked shop, adventure playground alongside the entrance road I feel this would be better sited elsewhere. Large field for ball games ok inside pool very small though.
A very busy sit ein a grat location we visited Lymington, Highcliffe, Milford on sea. Barton on sea, Sandbanks and Bournemouth to name but a few and you are on the doorstep to the New Forest will revist the area again but wouldn't stay here too over priced and regimented for us

We don't normally do big sites but thought as the weather is so bad we would give it a go as at least we could go swimming in the indoor pool
This site was not for us and we found it extremely expensive if you are only going for a weekend. As most normal families don't arrive until after work Friday and then you have to be off your pitch by 10 on Sunday morning all you really have is 1 day.
As the site was less than half full we did enquire with the warden who called to remind us we had to be gone by 10 if we could stay on a bit longer to use the pool etc, but unless we paid another full nights charge this was not possible.
The showers were clean but had the the push button system that you find on most sites but these had the quickest squirt I have ever known before you have to push it again so found them really annoying when you are trying to rinse the shampoo out and you need 2 hands.
They did have a great play park for the children but as it was a wet on the Saturday we couldn't use it and the only day it was dry was the Sunday but we had already, for the second time in 2 days been visited by the warden to tell us we had to be gone by 10, so didn't even have time to try it out.
The pool was warm and the children loved the slide but the changing rooms are very small and if you have young children it is hard work. They could do with a family changing area.
If you are used to paying premium rates for sites then you will enjoy it but we certainly wouldn't go back

Fantastic site and facilities. All the amenities were kept clean by the site wardens, wish the same could be said of the people staying on the site (would they leave toilets and showers in that state at home).
Facilities were great and the kids had the best time ever. Will be back, and it's close enough just to pop down for the weekend.
Small site shop with the essentials, a bit on the expensive side but Tesco just down the road and a Morrisons in New Milton.
Only negative was no designated parking for caravan when booking in.

This was our first visit to bashley and we found it very nice. On driving up the drive there was lots of speed bumps so was happy for our son to explore. The touring pitches have hard standings for the caravan and shingle for the awning with private hedge breaks between pitches.
The toilet blocks were very clean and pretty close to all pitches. There was a huge sports field with a large outdoor play park with mini golf and a nine holer for the adults.
Wardens patrol the area and on arrival they introduced themselves and inform us where things were. Reception was very helpful but there didn't seem anywhere to park up with the caravan on.
There is a costcutter shop on site which is the same price as it would be if it wasn't on site, and it sells most things. The indoor pool is small but nice and very clean, there is also two outdoor pools but we didn't use them due to the weather. We ate in the bar and the food was nice and a fair price. There was kids groups on and the usual night time cabaret with bingo etc.
There wasn't any bad bits really but a few points to note, please plan your route carefully as we followed satnav and ended up down a single track lane. This really bugs me in general, the cash machine charges you £1. 50 for your own money (but you can pay by card in shop and bar) and the entertainment lounge got really busy so if you want a seat go early.
All in all really nice kept site I would go again and are now looking at their other sites for the summer.

We have visited this site many times & enjoy the facilities, cheesy but great entertainment & nice pitches.
But beware when booking a touring pitch as you can no longer book a 2 night weekend-the minimum booking even in term time is 3 nights, so essentially you are being forced to pay for a night that anyone working Mon-Friday, or with school age children cannot use. Apparently they have not had any complaints before about this, although it is a new policy, & the reason for this extra nights fee is that some people like to stay past the 10am time of leaving the pitch, so you can stay all day on the Sunday-but there is no longer any choice in this or the option or facility to pay for a late departure if that is your choice.

Our first visit here and I was a little disappointed with the site itself.
The pitches were fine and the toilet blocks also very good - some of the best showers we've encountered although the blocks are starting to look a little dated.
The problems were with the main site centre - a very tacky amusement arcade and a very shabby bar and restaurant area. It desperately needs an overhaul and the food looked awful (we didn't try it, admittedly, but watched others getting theirs).
The indoor pool is lovely and warm but does get very busy (we were there at half-term, however). The changing area is in dire need of updating, however - half of the lockers are broken and the few changing rooms are tiny and battered.
What can't be faulted is the area - beaches down the road one way and the beautiful New Forest the other - loads to do in every direction. Highly recommend the Hare and Hounds pub about 5 miles down the road in Sway - lovely food and a real fire.
At £35 per night (family of 4), it's reasonable for the facilities, especially when you see that Sandy Balls is almost double that.
We'll go back because the kids love swimming but not as good as I'd hoped.

This was our first camping experience in our old but wonderful caravan. I loved every single minute of our time at Bashley, the site was full to bursting, but quiet, we probably made the most noise having our 15 and 12 year old children with us.
The site was clean, tidy and well maintained. The toilet and shower block was spotless. The entertainment fabulous, the food, swimming pool, everything faultless.
I have seen comments about the arcades 'eating your money', easily solved, either avoid them or limit how much pocket money you give the kids to spend in them.
I think the entertainment team work extremely hard, as I am sure everyone does. The wardens were very helpful and easy to find if you needed them (I didn't let on it was our first time).
We visited Mudeford, New Milton, Lymington and Burley. The forest is just a lovely place to be. We only spent three nights on the site but just can't find anything negative to say about our stay, not even the acorns falling on the caravan roof all night.
