Booked 3 nights, stayed 2. Photos were taken when the campsite had grass, which from the state of the place was a while ago. What grass there was is the victim of too many tent footprints.
Probably not one pitch that doesn't have at least 4 burn marks. Surely a firepit / altar would work better. As with previous posts, burned out tins and glass abound.
Counted 3 pitches that pass for level. We were in hammocks so it was less of a problem for us, but tent dwellers be warned. Or bring camp beds.
Loos and showers were adequate on our visit, but except for one family we had the place to ourselves, so can't comment.
Owner's response:
Suffolk had less than 4% its normal rainfall between May and end of September - of course there was no grass! Tent foot prints are unavoidable unless we inconvenience campers by excluding sewn in ground sheets - which we will not do. Of course there are multiple fire pits - we operate free pitching and a camp fire for all campers. Firepits are cleared at the end of each weekend - there is no glass. We do not offer level pitches - some are partly level - this is clear on the website. We have had over 1200 different camping families here this year - not one has mentioned the lack of flat pitches. If they make a complaint that is accepted they receive a refund or free stay later.

Excellent atmosphere. Never been to a site where there so much sense of a group of people camping together even though they didn't know each other; this was helped by the glo-sticks for the kids and added to by the 'girls' vs 'boys' rounders match. Great fun. Facilities basic but adequate. Lots of walks and great pubs in the area.
The only problem is, as the name of the lane suggests is that it can suffer from flooding down by the stream, but the good news is that the stream is great fun for the kids.

We went to this campsite, weekend of the British grand prix, booked in, 6 families.
This campsite is easy to sum up as follows:
Facilities (loo`s, showers etc) Poor. Campsite itself, good`ish.
I think 4 or 5 loo`s. Each with a tiny sink in, and 3 showers if I remember right. No other sinks for personal use. Loo`s got dirty quickly and weren't cleaned very often. Nothing worse than cleaning your teeth in a sink that is 'bubbling' where the last person has 'visited'. Long queues formed for all, especially in the eve and mornings. (ps. On the day all of us were leaving, someone cleaned the loo`s but locked 2 of them to keep us out which was cheeky.!).
Washing up sink area good, enough space.
More and more people were arriving all through the weekend which made the site feel cramped. Campsite - hook ups were on a sloping area so it was quite tricky, but we coped.
Campfire was excellent.
The field at the bottom with the trees was superb to set up a large game of football, dads v kids, be aware of a small river running around the edge, and a pond on site.
Management excellent, very laid back, very good with the kids, very helpful with hook up extensions etc all at no extra cost.
Kids loved the glo stix.
A pleasant ish experience for 2 nights

We loved this site, mainly because we could have an open fire and rules were few. Our 4 children could run around freely, the play area was small but that didn't seem to matter to them. One evening the owners gathered all the kids together and threw lots of glowsticks in the air for the children to collect and play with. Maybe my 13 year old wasn't too impressed but it kept the younger 3 amused for a few hours! There is a camp kitchen with a fridge, microwave and electric kettle (great for the early morning brew) and the toilets and showers were clean enough. The logs were a bit expensive; £15.00 for a barrow load but we stayed an extra night and they let us have a few more free. The owners are friendly and the guy that seems to manage the site has a wicked sense of humour.
The price is per pitch, £15.00 per night, none of that silly extra for dog/gazeebo/pup tent/children/car/hamster nonsense. For our family of 6 plus dog this is fantastic value.
Nearby is Southwold/Walberswicke (excellent crabbing) Aldeburgh (all loved the Benjamin Britten sculpture) and the norfolk broads.
Wickham Market is a short walk across a meadow and has shops, a cafe and chip shop, we didn't use the pub as it didn't allow childrem, a shame really.
In summary if you want to escape the rules and restrictions of the rat race for a while and enjoy that back to nature feeling, this is the site for you. Space, freedom and open fires, wonderful.

I just wanted to add to the other reviews here - which are pretty spot on.
We have just come back from two nights stay. If you want a relaxed campsite as an 'experience' I would recommend this one.
The site itself is very bumpy terrain - no flat pitches. The grass - due to campfires - is very burnt in areas - making it hard to find a decent pitch. We found glass in burnt embers for example.
The grass isn't well kept - there was lots of debris/litter.
Four toilets and three showers for the whole site. Every time we went to either there was a queue. They were cleaned every day to be fair but with no soap, and small sinks. There was nowhere to hang your wash bag and couldn't clean your teeth in the size sink. Our whole party felt this. There was no loo roll by the evening as well.
Lots of large parties means that it is noisy into the night but if you are in one of those parties then it's great. We sang (quietly) around the campfire until after eleven.
The play facilities for children is one unit with a slide and two swings - not enough for the site.
The benefits:
If you want a colourful experience then it's great! The campfires are lovely. The glowsticks for the children was a real treat for them. It is very relaxed so you don't have a campsite owner asking you to move your tent ten cms to the right for health and safety reasons.
The children did love the woods at the back and were making dens for ages.
Would I go back - no! The quality of the pitches, and the facilities just weren't up to my standards. I think if you have older children who know about hygiene then it's ok - they can hover! - but my lot just would roll around on the floor in the loos - gross! as they were always wet and muddy with loo roll over the floor. Dark and smelly too.
That said, if you are not bothered by this, and want the more relaxed site with the campfires then it's for you!

Just returned from a 2 night break at The Orchards campsite.
A great informal campsite, able to have your own proper campfire. A barrow load of logs & kindling cost £18.50, just enough for 2 nights.
There is a fridge & freezer by the washing up sinks and a kettle & microwave for everyone to use.
The toilets & showers are unisex, and queues formed in the morning. The toilets & showers weren't cleaned on Saturday, and toilet paper & mud soon built up on the floor.
The children's play area is very small, just a swing & a slide. But there's plenty of field & woods for them to run about in.
The shop was open until the owner went to bed - past midnight on Friday & Saturday - Fantastic!
We will definitely be returning - my kids declared it 'the best campsite we've ever been too' !

We visited this site on a sunny weekend in June with some friends. The site was full for the weekend and there quite a few large groups already on site. (One large birthday party of around 40 people, I think we were told) and also two separate other large groups of around 10 and 13 tents each.
As with most other people, we were pleased to be able to have a fire and there was also the added bonus of a picnic bench, of which there seemed to be a few dotted around the site. We used the fire for cooking in both the morning and the evening for two nights and got through two barrows of firewood at £15 each.
However, the main disappointment for me was the toilet facilities and it is the only reason why I would not return to the site. As stated in previous emails, the toilets and showers are unisex and there are no separate urinals for the men (meaning that they must also queue in the morning when lots of people are using the cubicles for the purposes of cleaning their teeth.
There are lots of great places to visit in the vicinity and the co-op in the village is like a tardis and is more than ample for most supplies.

I would definitely recommend this campsite for the following reasons:
* Allows campfires
* Site owners very friendly and welcoming
* Clean and modern toilet and shower facilities
* Plug sockets for hairdryers (with no extra cost)
* Mini kitchen area with fridge/freezer, sink and mircowave
* Quiet site
A very pleasant relaxing stay. Not too far from Great Yarmouth which has many attractions and beaches. There are also local supermarkets nearby too.

Overall an enjoyable experience, partly because of the 'novelty' value of being able to a have fire where we pitched our tents.
Also the site is fairly laid back - I asked 'what are the rules and regulations', and the reply was 'ensure you have fun and don't eat any other campers'. So you get the idea.
Other info - the cost of firewood on site is £15 for a barrow load and this lasted us for a couple of nights.
The main negative in my view is the shower block/facilities.
There were 3 (hot) showers and 5 (normal) toilets /1 disabled. However when the site is busy a queue easily forms as there no separate sinks for folks who prefer a quick wash / freshen up / clean teeth. The only sinks are in the toilets, which also don't have soap dispensers so be prepared!

We went as a weekend campout with Herts VW club.
What a glorious place for a weekend chillout!
Such a laid back site and owners.
Everybody had a great time including the kids, they especially liked the glostiks and the campfire.
We are planning another trip in September for the Alien weekend!
