Second visit to The orchard (1st visit april 08) cant fault the site or facilities.Everything you need as a camper is there to make it as comfortable as possible.
Site staff are great , group of unaccompanied teenagers on site when we arrived and alan (siteowner) and warden kept them in check all week.
We had another great visit and well be going back again.
Only bad points to site is slight road noise from the A12 but its not a real issue - only advise we give is take the mozzie spray- there`s plenty of them

We visited The Orchard last weekend with 4 adults 4 dogs and a 16 year old and it was great! The site is lovely and we had lots of choices for walks. The facilities are basic, but no queues. The site was fully booked but did not feel crowded.
Mainly tents on site, groups of young adults and young families but no disturbance from anyone, even though there is a very relaxed attitude to noise and music. There was a private function in the marquee on Saturday with a big bonfire and glow sticks which even my 16 year old daughter enjoyed!
The camp fire was the attraction for us, and I agree that £15 was a bit pricey for the logs, but it had to be done, and it was great, sat out 'til midnight just watching it.
It is a nice walk into the village, noticed Indian takeaway and pubs but did not try them out. We will certainly be returning.

We stayed here for three nights and had a very pleasant time. The camping field is very attractive and there are a few picnic tables dotted about, one of which we found useful for our party of three tents. The site does have a 'party' feel to it - at least on Friday & Saturday nights. It was much quieter on Sunday night. The glow sticks on Saturday were enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
The shower/washing up area is adequate - hot water was plentiful. It seemed quite a busy weekend but we did not have to queue for a shower. Additional facilites include kettle, microwave, fridge and freezer. There are two washing up sinks and some BBQs for your use (need to provide own charcoal). Useful shop on site selling basics - including chocolate! Hook-up available. Nice dog-walking area.
The possibility of having a camp fire was the draw of this site for us and we had one on two nights. The wood was not cheap (£15 for a barrowload) but it's worth it for the pleasure of an open fire.
Staff were friendly (do they ever sleep?) and helpful when we ran out of Gas which was available in Wickham Market - useful little town.
Great site for exploring local area. Woodbridge and Aldeburgh are worth a visit - we had a nice meal at The Mill Inn in Aldeburgh. Sutton Hoo is also nearby. We went to Bawdsey and took the ferry across the River Deben (dogs allowed) just for the fun of it. You can buy crab lines and bait and go crabbing there, too. A visit to Snape Maltings is also recommended - especially for the cream teas. We even went to Sizewell nuclear power station out of curiosity - it looks very grim but the beach is good for walking the dogs. Nobody was swimming!

Had a lovely 3 night mid-week stay here.(£20 for 3 nights special offer )
Campsite very pretty.Close to A12 with slight road noise but nothing to bad. Dawn chorus from the local wildlife makes you feel like your in the middle of nowhere.
Toilets/showers simple but adequate plenty of hot water.Microwave fridge and kettle all at hand for you to use
The owner has a little shop that sells just about anything you might have forgotten
Tea,coffee.Tent! and you can even have your t shirts printed while you wait.
Didn't have one but you can buy your firewood and have an openfire to sit round to make your stay even more rustic.
Short drive to snape maltings well worth the effort for cream teas, craft shops etc.Only 3 miles from the Shire Horse Centre in Easton.
Will be back at the end of the year.

We spent a couple of nights at the Orchard campsite midweek last week. I can't complain about this site it was a beautiful little site with more than helpful staff. The campsite warden was fantastic in teaching my husband how to start a proper campfire, and how to look after your fire dogs, he made sure that we knew how to keep it going and to our surprise it was still smoldering the next morning. This was even handier as we could restart it the next evening just by adding some kindling and blowing on it. The fire was much needed as it was freezing that week. The facilities are basic but all that you need, loo's showers, microwave, fridge. There is even pleanty of bbq's to use if you forget your own. The local village is small and not the main attraction, the local pub is not too great but you don't need it with such a great campsite (However there is a great house and garden shop thats like Aladdin's cave that has some camping equipment) Why leave the comfort of your campfire and bbq when you've got the sunset and stars to watch. However, if you do want to leave the site nearby Framlingham has pleanty of pubs, a castle, a few shops, and Indian restaurant, pharmacy etc. There are loads of farm shops and vineyards nearby also. Brilliant to get your fresh steak for the bbq - never eaten better. Aldeburgh on the coast is well worth a visit, and I can recommend the Mill Inn. Woodbridge is beautiful and especially the Cherry Tree Inn, shame taxi's are so costly back to The Orchard.I have to say I've never felt so welcome at a campsite but I think at the weekends this site will be packed as there are no marked out pitches and its already fully booked for most of the year.

What a fantastic site.
Staff on hand at all times and very, very helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
We had trouble getting our bonfire going and help was at hand straight away, thanks to Barry!
The kids loved it as when it got dark the owner throws glo sticks in the air for the kids to scramble for It was a fantastic first time camping adventure with a few mishaps along the way, like our ehu blowing but the staff again were fantastic and come to our assistance.
All I can say is we are going back in May so thumbs up for Orchard its great.

Just back from 2 nights at orchard campsite. On arrival was welcomed by the resident warden who was very helpful and said if we needed anything to go and see him. Warden always on site. Some people had problems getting the bonfires going, cos of wood damp, so he sorted them out. A young man from the site came round at dusk to make sure everyone was ok, nice touch.
Site under going refurbishment, but this didn't cause any problem.
Clean site and good tidy facilities. Everyone to do with the site that we met was friendly, welcoming and helpful.
We are looking at going back for main holidays and looking forward to it.

We visited the Orchards over the Easter bank holiday weekend, and whilst I accept that the owner can not be held responsible for the weather I now strongly believe that it would have been better for everyone if he had cancelled everyone. Initially on our arrival we had to be taken onto the site even though the staff had made every attempt to put down hard core and sand. The staff were extremely helpful but it appeared that they hadn't realised that Easter had fallen early, there were no signs up showing where to put rubbish, empty the loo's and there were no doors on the toilets due to the toilet block floor being tiled. I know that this site only costs £12 per night and yes I did get what I paid for and yes you can have open fires. A word of warning to all dog owners, both my dogs went in the stream at the bottom of the campsite, and appeared to be irritated by something in the water and had to showered to stop them being distressed, one staff member said it could have been lime off the fields.
Wickham Market is a lovely little town with coop, fish and chip shop etc we also went on to visit Aldeburgh and also felixstowe both again within easy driving distance.
Notes from the site owner:
All campers were given the opportunity to abort their weekend - including refund of deposits where taken. The ground was simply wet - and for health and safety reasons we restrict vehicular access such that we tow on and off to avoid the in-experienced sliding into other vehicles and other units / tents etc. Weather warnings were issued for most of the UK and the site applied local controls to reflect that. Perhaps the reviewer herself had forgotten how early easter was and was wrong footed by the wet, cold, inclement weather and the need for special arrangements. At all times at least 3 showers and 4 WCs plus disabled were open - doors were off to indicate re-furbishment work was underway in those rooms The hardcore and sand were nothing to do with the weather - it is normal annual maintenance at site entrance Rubbish signs are clearly displayed Waste emptying point is clearly signed also The stream is actually the river Deben - if the dogs were distressed at all it was probably because the water is very cold! Dogs and humans use the river all year round with no ill effects. Perhaps the dog should have been kept on a lead as per the rules?

Me and 5 others stayed at the Orchard Campsite for a weekend in February and I had a brilliant time, it seems crazy to want to go camping in the cold: On our last night the weather was -6c, but once we got our campfire going we kept nice and toasty. We where looked after real well, very friendly enviroment. The showers were warm and clean. Prices very cheap only £12.00 per night with electrical hook up including everyone in our tent. We camped by the pond, which is a nice area-quite secluded. There is a kitchen area that is free to use, we only used kettle, it took ages to boil though. The town was just 5 mins away, it had fish n chips, chinese, indian, pub and a co-op. We tried the indian restaurant out, it was very nice food, but. Took a long time till food came out.
Thank you everyone at campsite we will hopefully return again-maybe in the summer time.

We stayed here for two nights in January (yes January!) and we loved it! We had the whole place to ourselves except for one other caravan. Where else can you go for 12 quid a night, have electrical hook up, great views to wake up to, hot showers, clean loos, a washing up area, a microwave and fridge, and real camp fires (additional charge for wood for fire but well worth it, our barrow load lasted all weekend)! everyone should try camping in january, just take thermals! We had a great time and will be back soon!
There are pubs nearby ish but its not worth the hassle when you have somewhere like this to stay. Just light the fire and pop open a bottle or two and enjoy!
