Nice site but not perfect.
Toilet block is generally clean and in good condition but washhand basin mirrors are too low for most men.
Pitches are nicely laid out but many are on a slope and some pitches slope quite badly.
Playing field for the kids is a great asset and really well used. If going in school holidays expect lots of children. Unfortunately many of children use the sloping drive of the site to the Rose/Willow field as a cycling/skateboard park. Avoid pitch 78 on Rose field. This is the skateboard 'run-off' area. But generally the kids on the site a really well-behaved and mean no harm.
Walk to the beach is a bit of a trek so if carrying lots of gear, take the car. Plenty of places to eat in Perranporth - recommend the Pickwick or Browns chip shop not the Haddocks End chippy though (chips were lousy)
Truro (about 20 mins away) good place for grocery shopping with Aldi, Tesco and big Sainsbury with hot food counter (two 14' pizzas for £9). Holywell park is only 10 mins away and is good for a day out.
Suggestions for improvement would be to put a small skateboard park in and ban skateboards from the drive, add a goal net opposite to the other one (this won't increase the risk of a ball going over the hedge as the kids already use one of the wooden frames as a makeshift goal), level off some more of the pitches.

As has been said before this is a great friendly site, very clean and well laid out. We choose this area as we could take the dog on the beach. The area next to the site is also great for walking the dog. Cannot fault the team at the site and we will be back. The toilets and showers are clean and free. Buses stop just outside the site.

We stayed at tollgate for 3 nights, we stayed in one of the camping pods. It was very last minute but they found a spot for us. The pod was clean and tidy and well stocked, excellent little things! The site is dog friendly with plenty of space, it's a well looked after place, the toilets and showers are excellent and clean, staff were friendly and helpful, it's only a very short drive into perranporth and not much further to beautiful st Agnes, if you head down the lane you come to the smugglers den inn which is nice.
In my opinion this is a proper campsite, with excellent value and everything you need to enjoy your break so don't hesitate to stay here!
Happy camping

The only place we've ever been to twice in our lives - says it all. Glad to see the boys are maintaining their high standards. Everything from previous review stands again. We did make use of the food hut this time around and I can recommend it. Pity the goats were on holiday this year although the guinea pig population continues to expand.

Stayed in one of 5 new log pods on this site for 2013. The Pods are a great alternative to your tent for when the weather is not likely to be so good. Bring most of your camping gear without the tent and settle down in a comfy well insulated Pod. The pods are supplied with a panel heater - didn't need it due to the superb insulation. Also a mains socket, microwave, tv with dvd, cups, kettle and a starter pack of tea/coffee etc, and a futon. Outside is supplied a picnic bench, a chimnea with a starter supply of logs, and an outside store. There is plenty of room around and the 5 pods are not crowded together. The site has plenty of shower/loo facilities all kept clean with piped music and heated. There is a play area for those with kids and space for ball games with supplied goal net etc. The site has a small farm/pets area that visitors are able to visit. Also a small shop, and a café (during peak). Tollgate Farm accommodates tents/caravans and motorhomes with hook-ups, plenty of water stand pipes and waste disposal facilities. The site is well kept and not overcrowded. The site is up the hill from Perranporth, there are several walking routes to the town or beach, parking is easy though in the Perranporth area with multiple car parks.

This was the third year we have stayed at Tollgate Farm in August. Once again we found the campsite friendly and the on site Restaurant to be recommended. We stayed on the smaller field but the facilities on both sites are excellent. We are a retired couple but despite it being in the middle of the main school holidays the site was still relaxing. The on site facilities for recharging electrical items and freezing ice blocks is great too with a donation to the Air Ambulance or Life Guards the only charge. We're sure to be back next year.

Booked last minute as their web page offered a next day cancellation. Rang up and booked. Guy on the phone (Kevin) was very happy to book me in. We arrived on site and the welcome was fantastic, quick check-in great local knowledge and information. Pitch was a good size and clearly marked. Campsite clean and green. Toilets, showers and washing areas very clean with little flowers in the rest rooms. Showers are very warm and free. Walked around the whole site, very friendly, clean and organised. Camp shop small but prices are very good. Camp take-away food & breakfast is good as are the prices. Large selection and freshly cooked to the time you want to collect. Perranporth beach walkable but hill back up can be tiring but parking all day at the bottom only £4 which is three minutes from the beach, great value. Beach is cleaned daily with a machine, lifeguards are plentiful. Beach great for swimming, body boarding and surfing. Waterhole pub on beach does great food but it's not cheap.
Only negative is there is only 3 washing machines and 3 tumble dryers which can get busy. Didn't bother us as we were only there a week. My tip would be to go to another campsite locally (just to do your washing)which has about 10 washers and dryers and no queues ??
All in all, a fantastic and friendly campsite. We will be returning !

This campsite is immaculate and the facilities offered suit all types of traveller. The owners and staff are incredibly helpful, polite and wonderful hosts. The facilities for children include safe and well maintained play parks and sports fields. The camp shop was really useful as was the small cafe which allowed you to pre order food for evening meals if you didn't fancy cooking. The proximity to the beach and surrounding attractions was also ideal. This is a hidden gem of a site and we will definitely be going back next year. The site also has some animals which are fed with the help of the children every morning, something our boys really enjoyed. On the whole a wonderfully run site in which our children felt safe and we had a lovely relaxing time in a stunning setting. Well done guys you are top draw. But don't tell everyone!

Fantastic campsite. Have stayed here many times over the last 10 years. Pitches are a really decent size, facilities are good, clean and well kept. Shop and cafe on site. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Campsite is in a lovely location, and its possible to walk to Perranporth over the sand dunes (around 20 mins).
Added bonus for us is the fact that they have a field set aside for couples (ie no children) outside of the peak periods.
Just returned from another fantastic week at Tollgate, and will definitely return next year.

First the good points, nicely laid out units, sectioned off for tents, caravans they also had few mobile homes. We did not have a choice of where to pitch so we always seemed to be in shadow, we seemed to attract noisy neighbours, there was also no eating facility, showers needed good clean or new ones put in also you had to keep pressing the button for steady stream of lukewarm water. I'm afraid all in all this was a very disappointing site also the track you had to drive on didn't help the car suspension so we would not come here again.
