If you like a campsite having a pool, club house, restaurant, entertainment and kids clubs then this is not the site for you! Just before you reach this peaceful site there is the Haven site with lots of statics and some camping – turn into here and enjoy.
This was our first family camping holiday and our smallest was only 1 ½ and slept in a cot-bed at home so we strangely thought that camping would be a good holiday. Well they all slept well after days outside.
This is an amazing family run campsite. They were very helpful when booking and answered my many questions. We only got a pitch on a cancellation as in the peak school holiday time most people are repeat bookings. We found that lots of people knew/recognised each other from previous years but this did not make it clique-y. We had been told by many people that they come from ‘up north’ and scoop up the children in their PJ’s in the very early hours and the children sleep in the car until breakfast time. Then get dressed and continue their journey. It has become a tradition for quite a few families for this long journey. Ours was only about 4 hours.
This is a campsite of 2 halves being divided into 2 by a small country lane. We were on the larger side with the play park, play field, animals and the bigger and more modern wash block. The other side had the shop/reception and the cafe. The shop was great for small bits and pieces and of course sweets. They also had an ice block freezer and charged mobile devices for a donation to the air ambulance. The staff were great in suggesting outings to us and even advising where to park and which beaches were not family friendly so avoid them and try another one.
Pitches: They are green and on the gentle hills are terraced. We had an EHU pitch but were not using electric. It was pitch 65. Some pitches were EHU, some were not and some were hardstanding. There was a good mix of tents and campers with a few caravans and NO statics. There were however a few wooden camping pods for 4 people. This would not have suited us being 5, but there is no tent to put up and take down. They were about the size of my garden shed!
Playpark: The play park was small-ish with a large mown grass playing field. There was an animal area where several days a week at 10am you could go and wash your hands and hold an animal or two. Our children went here by themselves when one of us was washing up and could look over and see them.
Wash block: The bigger wash block was more modern than the other one and had gentle music playing whilst you wee or shower. The showers had scrapers so that you could scrape after showering and leave the showers as you would wish to find them. They were not very large so I tended to use the family shower room or shower them all in the family shower room and then nip off and shower in the block. The family shower room was a wet room with a shower and a baby bath. At the basins there were J-cloths to enable you to clean up after yourself. You know how annoying it is to put your wash bag down and find out it’s sitting in a puddle or there’s a tooth paste blob snarling at you.
Visits: to Perranporth town which is a lovely seaside resort. You can walk to the beach over the dunes and the golf course. You can also get down through the Haven holiday park. We crabbed on the beach. Also visited Lappa Valley the train place.
Beware: If you are organised like me and leave the rubbish bag out so that you can pop it out when you go out there are seagulls who will peck at the bag and leave your rubbish all around for you to pick up- yuk! There are dogs allowed and there is no mess left around. However one dog being walked on a lead managed to wander into our tent and eat our breakfast. It was more of a nose and a lick but we still had to bin the food from a ‘too inquisitive’ dog.

Would love to give this campsite a bad review to stop everyone going but I can't. It's amazing so book early to avoid disappointment.
The owners are fun, relaxed and maintain the site beautifully. They understand their guests and have amazing customer service.
Location - fantastic to visit other areas in Cornwall and a lovely if not steep walk to the beach. Be warned if you have young children with a pushchair it is doable but hard work.
Negatives:
I cannot think of any!
Positives:
(1) Fantastic location
(2) friendly
(3) Lovely spacious pitches
(4) Fantastic farm for the children
(5) Fab play area
(6) Clean facilities and the toilets have a mop for you to clean out after use (or before) perfect!
(7) Well stocked shop
Would we visit again? Yes - fab campsite!

Great campsite, highly recommended. Very clean and tidy. The play area was huge, they clearly love their animals as they are well looked after, and our dog was made very welcome.
Lots of waking locally for the dog great beach with lots of space and waves to body surf on, and the shop sells local cold beer!
Finally I must mention the on site farm kitchen food, almost 30% was vegetarian which was fantastic for us.
Will go again:-)

Just returned from spending 2 weeks at Tollgate with my family. We had 3 elec hookup pitches in Perran.
The site was tidy and facilities lovely and clean. The only thing I would say was the shower block in the perran field could do with modernising, Also the basins in the mens are too close to each other making it difficult for men when they are trying to shave.
The pitches are on a slight slope which is not great problem until you come to bedtime, we had to tuck something under our airbed to try and make it level.
The play park was fab for my granddaughter as was the farm. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
Not far from Perranporth which is a nice little town with a massive beach, and loads of takeaways.
Overall we had a great holiday and would recommend the site.

Another year at tollgate and still love the place and will be back next year.
They are always friendly and helpful.
They have made improvements from last year by levelling out some of the pitches in perran and they have some lovely signs out mapping the campsite and surrounding areas on walls near the loos/ potwash areas.
When the gales came we went to find out how bad it would get and they where very up to date with the information and they where going out to peg peoples tents down who were out for the day and their tent where coming loose.
This is the type of service you get at tollgate.
If you visit check out the weather board.

WOW - what a wonderful family owned and run campsite. Very friendly and helpful. Shower blocks were spot on, clean and modern. Play area excellent, animal area, very nice, children can help feed some of the animals at 10am each morning.
Food bar, we had tea there one night and breakfast there on our last day. Both times food was very good. Also a lady from a local strawberry farm comes round to the camping fields with her freshly picked strawberries to sell and can say they were very good.
We walked onto Perran sands (haven group) which is next door to Tolgate Farm and used there crazy golf, arcade for bowling etc, we went to there reception as we understood we would have to pay for a day pass of £4 for all four of us, but was told at Haven reception that we did nt need to pay as no one checked. Although we did have to pay £15 for four of as to play crazy golf.
Perranporth we had been many times before and we like the place a lot, lovely beach and fine sand and some nice holiday shops. Good place to visit would be Perran Diary who make there own ice creams on site also nice food at The Watering hole on the beach.
So Tolgate farm was most excellent, would defo go back again. 10 out of 10

Stayed here for six nights with wife and young child in a folding camper with hook up. The facilities were well provided being clean, tidy and modern. The site was well managed with plenty of bins and the grass mowed twice in our stay.
The swings & slides were good but more suited to 5 yrs plus. The animals were a great addition and were fun to see a couple of times.
There were a few things that niggled slightly though: didn't see anything of the owners except when in the shop so there were no walk-by check up's or any personal touches. The shop was open 9-4 which was a bit limiting and they had problems with their bread deliveries.
Wifi is £15 for a week, which is far too expensive considering a lot of sites provide it for free. The on site cafe is not open every day and only for limited hours, the food was ok, somewhere between a kebab shop and Wetherspoons, but is overpriced.
There is nothing 'close' to the site in terms of a quick walk with a pushchair. I would not attempt the walk to the town with a pram unless you are quite fit or have stayed off the beer for the return journey. The nearest place for a quick pint is the Park Resort nearby, however this lacks any local charm.
The location is good for a quick drive to the main attractions in Cornwall and P'porth is a nice town and lovely beach. The site is on top of the town and for our stay was exposed to a strong prevailing wind.
In short, nice site and amenities but disappointed with it's immediate location and indifferent & expensive atmosphere.

We stayed here at whitsun and thought it was a very nice site.
Pitches are spacious and level.
Toilet block is spotless at all times plenty of showers and sinks water always hot family bathroom.
Small shop with just the basics.
Cabin that sells hot meals and drinks very good food but there are places in perranporth that are more reasonably priced.
Huge playing field with everything a child could want.
Very nice views across the country side.
The walk into perranporth is not that far but its a steep hill most of the way back or there's a large car park in town.
Enclosed washing up area.
Can get windy but there are sheltered areas.
In all a pleasant site would go back there again although a little expensive.

Just had 15 days here in Sep with a group of bearded collie owners, we had 12 days last year same time and are hoping to book for a same fortnight next year, we were on willow field this year and perran last.
It is an excellent dog friendly site next to sand dunes for walking the mutts.
The site is great with very clean, very good shower/toilet blocks, willow being the newer of the two blocks,
The site has a playground and animals for the kids as well, but for us we are two adults with one dog and the site couldn't be better.
In our opinion.

We thought this site was excellent and the best we've stayed at with children. The play park is great and the animal corner is really popular. Our children (6, 3 & 10 months) were there every day!
We were having doubts about the 6 hour journey to Cornwall but we're glad we took the chance. Despite not having a hook up available for us, we read all the reviews/looked at the website and decided to stick with it. We're really glad we did as we had a lovely holiday.
The family showers are great - baby bath, baby seat, plenty of room - made it possible to shower and have 1/2/3 children with me if nec. The toilets are spotless and always smelt fresh. The washing up facilities are clean and tidy too.
The staff are brilliant and really helpful. Our tent was destroyed and they very kindly phoned us while we were on a day out and rescued all our belongings. Nothing seemed too much trouble. They also gave good advice about where to go and suggested 'Springfields' which our children absolutely loved - good if rain or sun. There's pony rides, boat rides, play centre, farm/feeding animals, train ride, slides, trampolines etc. We paid for 1 day (family ticket around £30)and got the next 6 days free if we wanted to return (which we did!).
Lovely beach (but quite a walk with little ones), Perranporth was just big enough for our children to spend their holiday money at without it costing a fortune, Co-op was good, lots of food places - we felt is was an ideal place for families.
We'd definitely return to Tollgate Farm.
