My wife and I have just spent a week at hidden valley, and overall we were very disappointed with it. We arrived approx at 4pm on a Saturday, we were handed a site map and informed that we were on pitch 6 on oak, no one showed us where to go or anything about the facilities. We found the pitch but the road was so narrow I had to use my motor mover to access the pitch (I would have been in trouble without one)the pitch was low down below a high bank with twenty steps that lead up to the toilet block which was clean and warm. Every time you tried to leave or enter the park, using the barrier code it did not work without entering it two or three times or having to either go to the office or get out of the car and enter the code on the opposite fob. The site overall was pleasant and well maintained apart from the roads which were all patched and bumpy. On the day of departure I was ready to leave at 7am but was unable to get past the car and caravan next to mine due to the narrow road and I had to leave the site by driving against the one way system. Taking everything into account we did not enjoy our stay and will not be returning, which is unfortunate as it is a beautiful part of the country

My wife and I stayed at this site for 5 days in June and was very impressed by the camp site and its facilities. Lovely showers with underfloor heating and plenty of hot water, staff were friendly and helpful. Bus service to ilfracombe stops right outside the camp so easy to get bus to locations along the coast. Croyde bay is beautiful and well worth a visit. The site has a well stocked shop and small cafe for food and drinks. Lovely walks around campsite. Main road outside site is slightly noisy if you are on that side of site.

Family of 4: 2 adults and 2 children in touring caravan
I use the UKCampsite.co.uk reviews a lot to decide where to go and so having just returned from a fabulous week away at hidden valley I thought I really must let others know that not only is this a beautifully scenic and exceptionally clean site it's in such a great location for exploring the immediate and surrounding area in north Devon.
The site positives ; friendly, helpful staff and owners. We had a hard standing large pitch overlooking the park which was ideal to watch our 2 children playing. The kids loved the stream, bridge and zip wire. Obviously smaller children would need greater supervision (ours are aged 10 and 7). Showers and loos always clean and not overly busy even though this was spring bank holiday week. Lovely green site.
Excellent location to explore surrounding area.
Site negatives; I didn't have any as such and didn't notice any particular road noise as detailed in some of the other reviews. As we were on the hard standing side of the park (where we asked to be) not a lot of room for football and ball games but there was a large field near the kingfisher meadow area- we just went to the beach instead. Maybe the shop could have been better stocked but not a deal breaker.
Surrounding area plus points:
Absolutely amazing large sandy beaches at woollacombe and saunton. Lots of space and good body boarding- hire a wet suit. Ilfracombe harbour and tunnel beach. Exmoor zoo was surprisingly well stocked for its size including some big cats but don't expect lions and elephants etc- certainly worth a visit though. Cooks island pub on the a371 to woollacombe do a great daily carvery and family friendly. Braunton town quaint but busy for traffic: good co-op for provisions but we discovered a couple of petrol station shops that were much closer : spar on the woollacombe rd and a londis on the main a371 on the way to braunton. Also some excellent coastal path walks.
We've had a fab holiday would defo recommend this site: hope this review helps and you do too.

Just spent 2 weeks at Hidden Valley and on the whole it's a lovely site. We had a premier pitch, which had water, electric hook-up, tv ariel point and picnic bench on Kingfisher Meadow and the pitches are huge. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we were shown to our pitch by one of the wardens who explained how we were to pitch and where everything was.
WiFi is available with a package to suit most and the coverage seems to be excellent. We paid £12 for a week and didn't consider it to be extortionate as have paid almost as much for one day on another site when we had very bad weather.
I can't comment on the play areas as we no longer have young children, but from the laughter and shrieks we could hear from children playing they seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.
The laundry facilities were good and at £3 per load seems average with £1 for 20 mins tumble drying.
Now to the negative comments - the toilet and shower block has definitely seen better days! It was cold as there is no form of heating in the block on this side of the site and there are signs of mould. There are hooks on the backs of the doors and a stool is provided but the floor remains wet so completely drying and dressing is difficult so I resorted to drying and dressing in the tent! However that said they were thoroughly cleaned every day and there was always adequate toilet paper and hand soap in the dispensers.
The road running through the site has also seen better days and is full of pot holes and repairs.
There is also a lot of road noise, though to be honest we did get used to that and it didn't stop us from sleeping and the sound of the water from the stream was lovely.
I'm not sure if I would return here again with the shower block as it is ( good toilet and shower facilities with underfloor heating is essential for me really - just call me soft, but I only do glamping!) but should they be refurbished to a really good standard then I would come back as the setting is lovely.

We recently decided to store our caravan at Hidden Valley and we made the right decision. Hidden Valley is ideally situated for exploring North Devon. The site is very well maintained and the shower blocks are spotlessly clean. The Owners and Wardens are extremely helpful and very friendly and the ducks are quackers. We have spent 7 long weekends here this year already and look forward to many more. Competitive prices for such a high quality site. Highly recommended 10/10

I have holidayed in this part of Devon for 25 years since being a child and now go with my kids.
Croyde is where my heart is but with a Vermont xl I truly believe there is not a site here that can accommodate my tent and give me a bit of space around it. They all say they can when you ask but a quick look at the pitches in school holidays tells me otherwise unless I want to be on top of my neighbour.
Hidden valley have premier pitches in kingfisher meadow and these were huge. We love our pitch. There was a stream at the bottom which the kids played in for hours. I love this aspect as it really felt back to nature for them. And I think this sums up why we enjoyed this site. Lots of space, lots of trees, woodland walks, pretty gardens. The facilities were ok. Hot showers, we never queued in August. Cleaned regularly. Very friendly and helpful wardens. We don't camp for prepaid entertainment and hotel standard facilities. Clean and warm is fine.
The only downside was the road noise. Sometimes we forgot about it, sometimes it crept in.
The location is great for seeing what the area has to offer.
But, before we booked for next year we had a good look around many other sites in the area based on reviews from campsite uk just to make sure we weren't missing a gem.
To better hidden valley my criteria was to be able to walk to a beach (easily with kids and beach kit) and take our tent with plenty of space. We went as far as ilfracombe on our search. I don't believe you can walk easily to a beach unless you're in croyde and I already said none of them were suitable and those set back did not offer the size or tranquillity of hidden valley.
If you could pick it up and place it in croyde I would be in heaven!

I stayed hear in September & had a fantastic time. I was very late arriving after a very long journey & the staff could not have been more helpful. I have a small van & was traveling alone, each day or evening the wardens would pass my van & chat with me, giving me advice on places to visit. The toilet & showers were good. I also used the laundry facilities which were very good. The cafe is a really good idea & it was lovely to stroll around the sight each evening. I never did use the bus, but chose instead to take the van out, there is so much to do in the area & will definitely return. It's was a lovely site & will return

Just returned from a one week stay at Hidden Valley. This is quite a large site well located for North Devon's attractions about halfway between Braunton and Ilfracombe and close to Croyde Bay and Saunton beaches. Easy to find as the site is directly off the main A391, although Braunton is a bit of a pain to get through as it it quite a bottleneck. We heard a bit of noise from the main road but it wasn't intrusive.
On arrival, the site looks nice with some well kept, mature flower beds and shrubbery. Good sized arrivals area where you can wait for your pitch if necessary. The entry road is a bit rough and looks like it has had some fairly major potholes recently filled in, shouldn't be a problem if you're driving at an appropriate speed though.
Nice reception area with leaflets for local attractions and pleasant, helpful staff. There is a small shop (very, very basic though) and a cafe which does snacks and meals. We only used the cafe once and the food was nice, but a little slow arriving and a bit on the pricey side.
Wardens showed us to our pitch and helped with the awning which was appreciated after a six hour drive! The wardens really do this place credit, they were always smiling and nothing was too much trouble - an absolute credit to the site!
So, onto the nitty gritty. Firstly, I have to say that we were a little dissappointed with the site overall. Considering the boasts on the website and some of the reviews, we were expecting much more. We had booked a 'large' pitch and were located in the 'Oak' area. The pitch did have a drainage point, light, hook up, tv point and fresh water connection as promised, but I would question the description of 'large'.
There was just enough room for the caravan and awning, then a narrow grass space before the next unit. Cars had to be parked along the front of the units, not a problem in itself but we did feel the pitches were a bit tight. That said, it was adequate but no more than that.
Personally I would say they have tried to cram on 2-3 more pitches than they should have on this row. Roads around the site were generally ok although as you would expect (being in a valley) there are some fairly steep inclines. Our pitch drained well during the one night of heavy rain we had. Levelling ramps/blocks would be a good idea for this site as a number of the pitches were sloping to various degrees.
Amenities block was up a steep flight of steps. Again, considering the website descriptions we were again a bit dissapointed. There were only 3 toilets and 3 showers. For the size of the site, I don't feel this is enough and several times we had to queue (although it was high season. ).
The block has underfloor heating but as we always use flip flops it made no difference to us. I would say cleanliness standards are OK, certainly not immaculate but reasonable and acceptable. The blocks are in need of a fresh coat of paint though - fair bit of mould on the ceilings etc.
The block also has a laundry (£3 per wash, £1. 20 for 20 mins drying), covered washing up area, chemical disposal point and a wetsuit wash area. The showers themselves are good - not the pain in the bum push buttons that so many sites are installing now, but a proper shower with plenty of free hot water in good sized cubicles.
There was a shallow stream running through the park behind out unit. There were a couple of places where it was accessible for the kids to have a paddle and build dams etc but obviously could be of concern to those with young children - some of the banks were very steep and very close to the pitches (especially the 'Premier' pitches).
Kids play area was good with swings, slides, climbing frames and a zip wire, but it is very, very muddy so wellies are an absolute must on this site. Being in a valley it doesn't get a great deal of sun and is mostly shaded by the surrounding forest so it never dries out!
Not a lot for younger children as due to the layout of the pitches it is difficult to keep an eye on them if they wander away from the unit.
The top meadow area (mainly hardstanding) has a barrier access. The access code is unique to your pitch to prevent unauthorised visitors which I thought was a good idea.
Up near the reception is a lake which again has a nice mature garden area. Very pretty for a walk or just to sit in the evening but no fencing around the lake again means younger children need to be watched.
We had a drive around the camping area on the other side of the site where the grass pitch's are located and this seems a more social layout, although pitch sizes appeared similar.
All of this site is either up, or down hill. The clue is in the name I guess but it wouldn't be suitable for those with mobility issues.
The surrounding area is lovely. We love this part of Devon and it never fails to impress. Plenty to do for all age groups and a number of excellent beaches all within a ten minutes drive (Croyde, Braunton, Putsborough being three crackers).
Braunton, about 4 miles from the site is a nice little town with a good selection of take-aways, shops and suchlike. There is a co-op and a tesco in Braunton too.
Several pubs are all within a few minutes drive and we would recommend the Ebrington Arms in nearby Knowle. Charming place with good food, although try and avoid it when football is on TV as it got a bit loud and the landlord didn't do much about the swearing! Fish and Chips has to be Squires in Braunton, very nice indeed although be prepared to queue and part with £20+
A little further afield is Ilfracombe with it's pretty harbour and seaside feel. Great days out for the kids would include The Big Sheep, Watermouth Castle, Exmoor Zoo, Combe Martin Dinosaur park, Quince Honey Farm and many others. All within easy reach. Horse riding and Quad biking is also available nearby.
Overall I would say:
Great Location
Great Staff
Average Facilities & Pitches
Don't believe all that you read on the website
Would I go again. ? I wouldn't say no, but I would look around first. Would I recommend. ? Yes, but tentatively.

Beautiful site in a well laid out and mature site with a beautiful lake at its centre. Central location for the surrounding beaches and within a short distance from the Tarka Trail.
Amenities very good and staff very friendly and helpful. Cafe does a lovely breakfast and traditional afternoon cream tea.
Wi-fi and tv coverage very good where we were camped. Showers always hot and clean. Local pubs very good for meals etc.

We have just returned from 9 days at the hidden Valley site and felt we had to leave a review as we have had the most amazing time.
This is the first time in a caravan for our family, we usually have a cottage.
The site is clean and in an amazing location. The staff cannot do enough for you and your children, they are friendly and approachable.
The Warden and his wife are a wonderful asset to the site, even on their days off they still say hello and take time to chat to you.
We needed to use the computer whilst at the site and found it easy to purchase a ticket to do so and was assisted in connecting to the internet. (nothing is to much trouble in this busy world that we live in. )
The facilities are clean and well maintained.
There are lots of nooks and cranny's to explore, round every corner there is something interesting to find.
The team work so well together it and enjoy their work that it rubs off onto the atmosphere of the site in general.
We will be returning for sure. Thanks Lisa Tim Ella and Charlie.
