Myself and my wife stayed at the site at the beginning of May, although I thought it was the monsoon season.
On arrival all the staff were very friendly especially the staff who took us to our pitch, although it was another 3 hours before we could hook up up due to heavy rain.
The site is situated in a nice quiet area, although on our 1st morning I was awoken by the traffic just a short distance from the pitch.
We were informed that there was no chef on site, so we did not go to the cafe/ restaurant area.
When the sun did come out it was quite warm and sheltered.
Amenities were very good, especially the underfloor heating in the showers.

We had a wonderful, really relaxing 9 nights at this site, not only is it picturesque, but the wardens and owners were so helpful and pleasant, we stayed on a small pitch quite near the spotless Toilet and Shower block (with under floor heating. There was a little bit of road noise, but it certainly didn't bother us.
There is a small river which runs though the site and makes a wonderful dog walk, the lake and surrounding area is beautiful. We were very lucky with the weather too, which always helps.
We would defiatly return, especially in April/May again when the cost was just £9 per night for 2 adults, our dog and a porch awning

We have just spent Easter at Hidden Valley and It was wonderful.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and gave us local information about dog walks and dog friendly pubs.
The site was lovely, with a lake, gardens and the woodland trails to walk around, we had a choice of dog walks.
As we sat outside in the evening, wine in hand, dinner cooking and the stream running past our pitch, we agreed it was the nicest site we have been to and we will definitely go back.
Braunton Burrows was a hit with us and the dog and is highly recommended for a walk.

EXCELLENT !
We agree with many of the other reviews, wonderful location, great walks, friendly and helpful staff, well managed site with good public transport links. This site is well laid out with excellent facilities, always clean and well cared for. If the shop does not stock what you seek they offer to order it for you. The site is hidden away and quiet, it has good children's facilities with adventure playgrounds and woodland walks as well as a stream and lake. Great location for the non beach seekers, dogs loved it.
We will certainly be visiting again.

If you like a well run, friendly, clean, peaceful campsite then look no further!.
Our visit was so good that we didn't what to go home, and we felt like the owners and staff were friends,
They were always on call at any time for what ever problem we had, like when we had problems with our motor
Mover so they pushed the van onto the pitch for us and helped to set us up,
And when we had a problem with our TV they came straight up and fixed it for us.
All the facilities were kept very clean, the play area is great for kids, the shop is well stocked, and the cooked food in the cafe is yummy.
The site is very flat which is great for anyone with walking difficulties, or kids on bikes.
The site is well maintained, dog friendly, safe, very attractive, quiet, set in woodlands with lovely walks and lots for wild life to see,
At night we could hear Owls hooting, and there was a lovely pond there that is so peaceful which is fed by a stream that flows through the site.
Every one of the staff always had a smile, to greet you with, and to share their extensive knowledge of the area with you if you needed it.
All in all, its the best in the west, go there and give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Have just returned from an excellent stay at this very beautiful site. We were on a large pitch as our motorhome is approx. 28ft long. We had hardstand, electricity, water, waste and tv hookup all available on the pitch. We thought we could have had slightly more room between vans but it was adequate.
Being in a motorhome we like to leave our van on site and either walk, bus or train to various places to visit. Ideal here - the bus stops are right outside to Ilfracombe or Barnstaple and from Barnstaple other buses can be caught to many other places. It was a very good service and we were delighted with it.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the footpaths well worth trudging over.
We did not try the cafe but it seemed very nice with a comfortable lounge (with tv) as well as tables and chairs to eat/drink at.
Not having children with us(being 'golden oldies') we were not aware what the playground was like but it certainly seemed good with pipes to crawl through and slides and zip wires.
We intend to return very soon.

We arrived on site and were greeted by very friendly and helpful reception staff, and given some very helpful local information.
We were then guided to our allocated pitch by the 2 wardens (husband and wife) who were once again very helpful and very friendly and always had time to chat to you.
The woodland walk and the on site lake area is stunning. Wellies needed if raining as its very muddy!
On the downside, it is situated in a valley, and it did rain heavily during our visit, but the drainage is horrendous! We practically lived in a swamp, and mud was absolutely everywhere.
I know we can't blame the site for the weather but whilst there everyone was complaining about the same problem, and we were told that 'it is always a problem on this site, they need to look at an aeration system'. Possibly an ongoing issue. Shame cos its a beautiful site but just to messy.

This site was only Ok - not perfect - not worthy of all these awards - the eastern valley slopes pitches (formally the Illfracombe-Barnstaple railway line and sidings until 1967) were very wet and waterlogged and they were mostly small pitches which were all sloping not at all level side to side even though hard-standing - the toilets/showers were not plentiful enough but relatively clean and not fully working during our visit - something to do with the hot water boiler which lasted a whole 8 days. Would go back but not to those row of waterlogged pitches. Hopefully the newer paved ones on the western side of the valley. Good location for north-west Devon though.

We have now been several times, and enjoyed our stay on each occasion. On our last visit in August 2011, I got the dates mixed up, and arrived a day early, with my partner, youngest daughter, and one of my grandsons in tow! Staff were brilliant! the owner arranged free tea/coffee/squash for us, were very patient, and put us on 'Owl' pitch. After some further 'shuffling' by the owners, we were able to spend our whole stay on 'Owl'. I cannot praise the staff enough! We like this site, we tour regularly and this is, in our opinion, one of the better sites

Beautiful site. Facilities were excellent. We stayed in Kingfisher Meadow which was very flat and the pitches were well spaced out. The site were very accommodating to us pitching beside our friends, even though we arrived on different days.
Although the site doesn't allow camp fires there is a fire pit beside the stream and away from all pitches that can be booked for an evening. We did this and invited other campers and it ended up being a very social, enjoyable evening.
Each pitch has it's own tap, which was excellent. You also have the option of sky/cable TV connection, which we didn't use, but the the tent beside us with huge flat screen TV did!
The staff at the sight were all very friendly and appeared to keep a tight ship. The site was immaculate and facilities very clean.
Our only negative is the children's playground in Kingfisher Meadow. This is in the woods up a steep, muddy bank. It had rained a lot prior to our arrival and the children got filthy. It is also out of sight.
The location of the site is perfect for many lovely beaches. However, Braunton seems to be quite a bottle-neck if you have to drive through it so be prepared to be so close but still have 20 minutes to go to get to the site if you have to go through that way.
All in all, we would certainly return again.
