First visit, and overall a good clean, well organised site, friendly staff, First time used a fire basket, and enjoyed the experience, so bought my own for future use. Nice 20 min walk to the bull pub, found a lovely beer there called Chatsworth Gold, there's 5or 6 other pubs in short driving times, as the lovely barmaid at the Duke of York told me. The prices are about right and reasonable, except the bag of logs for £4, you don, t get much wood. The weather was bad on Sunday so drove to Buxton and used the Panda Chinese at dinner, not expensive, and at night had a indian at the Tah Mayhall, lovely food. About 6ml to Buxton, the kids wanted a cinema but nearest I think is Stockport, We also drove to Hadfield, where they fimed the BBC comedy 'the league of gentlemen'. This was for the kids so for myself I carried on to Stockport to visit one of my favourite pubs in Britain, The Crown, which is under the massive viaduct. The weather was too bad for walking but we still managed to enjoy our weekend as best we could. Will definitely come again.

Spent three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of the campsite. It has five different fields - not all level - but we found a great spot in the LIMES where we were only 5 yds from the Limestone Way footpath but 100 yds from the toilet block! Our choice. The toilet block was warm, welcoming and very clean. I managed a shower inc hairwash for 40p- my wife had six minutes worth (60p).

Loved being able to walk to Monyash, nice pub, the Bulls Head. We also managed two great walks, North to Millers Dale and Ashford, South to Youlgreave and Alport.

There was some aircraft noise at night which surprised us as we were over 20 miles from Manchester Airport and these planes were on their descent, but we were also in the middle of a National Park so in that respect it was very peaceful. Owners gave us a very useful printout of what was available in the area plus directions and distances.

We had not visited this site before and booked it after reading the reviews on UK campsite site, The site was easy to find and accessable down a newish concrete track. The site was larger than expected and was split up into several fields, we worked it out that the big field that you first drive through is for adults and the big field past the farm on the right seems to be for families, as it was only my wife and I on this occasion we chose to pitch on the Left hand side as you enter the first field which was pretty flat, a lot of the site is on sloping ground. The site and facilities were very clean and tidy, Its a shame other sites were not all like this one, my only bit of a gripe is with the showers. 20p for 2 minutes, it took 30 seconds to run hot, I put another 20p in while it was still running but still only got 2 minutes, if you want a 4 minute shower you have to put 2 x 20p coins into the machine at the start of the shower, although you can order breakfast sandwiches and pizzas a small shop counter would go down well possibly selling essentials as there is no shop nearby. The location is very good it is only about a brisk 15 minute walk to the pub in Monyash which was well worth the walk, excellent food and beer. We will use this site again.

Just returned from yet another lovely weekend at this beautiful site. Location is perfect for us for a quick weekend retreat. First time using the EHU and had no problems at all. I love the fire buckets that you can hire for a fiver a night, you can even buy marshmallows and skewers, lovely :) there's no playground for kids but to be honest they seem to prefer the freedom and using their bikes etc. ( and the fire buckets at night if course )

Monyash is a short walk across fields and the bulls head pub serves great food and has a lovely beer garden. Pub is dog friendly too. Nice ice cream shop next door.

The Monsal trail is 10 mins drive away and well worth cycling or walking for stunning scenery.

The only slight negative is the drain smell in the campsite loos. They are spotlessly clean though I just think it must be a drain issue. Other than that, perfect. We will certainly return soon.

I visited this campsite again in May 2014 after a first visit 12 months ago. I am pleased to say it has not changed, It is still a great site. I visited bank holiday weekend and the washing facilities were always spotless along with the pot wash area.

The site is in a good location, just 10 minutes from Buxton

I will certainly be returning - especially at just £7 per person per night!

Can not express how disappointed we are with this site. We are experienced campers and this is the first time we have ever left any site early. We didn't ask for a reduction so have no axe to grind, just want to make sure campers are aware of the facts.

Firstly the good bits, the shower block is clean and warm, the grass is cut

The reality

The web site advertisers 16A EHU it's only 6A the owners assured us that it had been improved but it only had a 6A trip.

The view from the site was dismal, a metal barn, a hedge, the rest of the field and little huts with a back drop of nothing worth noting.

At night there was a constant drone, which wasn't loud but once you heard it (we think campers will hear it more than caravanners) you couldn't stop hearing it, if that makes sense, not sure what it was perhaps a local factory or the fact that planes heading for Manchester Airport regularly overhead.

It's not all that close to either Buxton or Bakewell so you're not paying for location or the view.

£20 a night plus then extra £5 per child for the kids (which we didn't take) no play ground for them if we had makes this site really expensive and certainly not value for money.

Showers appeared clean but 20p for a shower when you are paying over the odds just beggars belief.

In summary if we hadn't booked and arrived later than we hoped we would have found (and there are plenty of them near as we later found out) a better site and paid less for it.

Management response: Thank you for the review and we would like to comment on a few points raised:

The amps on all our hook-ups are 16A as stated on our website and not 6A as the reviewer has stated.

The shed is not a metal one but concrete with wooden Yorkshire boarding and is the arena as shown on our website.

The "little huts" are actually 4 yurts and very popular with those who do not wish to camp in a tent.

We are in the middle of the Peak District countryside here and have never stated that we are any closer than approx. 6 miles to nearest town.

The prices we charge for camping and showers are clearly shown and at no time have we hidden them so that when guests book onto our campsite they know exactly what to expect.

We are nowhere near to a factory so what the drone they heard was, we have no idea. Planes do pass over from time to time. We are 1 hours drive away from Manchester airport.

This couple left one day early without even seeing us to give us the opportunity to explain the facts.

Please take a look at our website and you will see that we have invested a great amount of money on this campsite including under floor heating in the toilet and shower block and keep re-investing in order to make everyone's stay an enjoyable one. We are family run and always available 24/7. The trees we have planted around the site are for shelter and wildlife for everyone to enjoy.

We're just back from a lovely two night stay at this beautiful site.

As its a little late in the year, the site was not busy and we used the field with electric hook up. The toilets, showers and pot washing were housed in an immaculately kept and toasty warm block and were the best I've encountered so far.

The beauty of this site at this time of year is that they hire out fire pits, which give out a lovely heat, make brilliant toasted marshmallows and gave us a lovely focal point for a glass or two of wine in the evenings.

There's loads of great walks and good pubs available and I would recommend this site without hesitation.

We stayed for four nights over the bank holiday weekend. This site is beautiful ! We weren't actually that far from home but we fealt like we were. Great walks from camp being located right on the limestone way. Short walk across fields to Monyash where there's a great dog friendly pub serving lovely food. Showers and loos were spotless but busy and there's not many of them. I expected this though as is was a very busy weekend, we never had to queue, you just had to pick your time ! Showers were 20p for 2 mins but I always managed easily with a 40p. Shower. Pot washing facility's were great, nice and warm and indoors.

A great thing about is site is that you can hire a fire pit for a fiver a night, they also sell you the logs and kindling. You can purchase marshmallows and skewers too which was a lovely touch. You can order pizzas and paninis and also a breakfast bap which some of our party did and they said it was delicious.

Staff were very friendly and left you too it which was great. Cant beat the price either at £7 per person per night. No price hikes around the bank holiday which is rare to find ! And no charge for the dog :)

We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

This is a really nice site which I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. Even though we were there for August BH it didn't seem too busy & there was still plenty of space for playing ball games.

The toilets, showers & washing up facilities are all under one roof in a new purpose built stone building. Very clean and tidy with no bad odours & well lit throughout.

Showers cost 20p for 2 minutes (you can insert up to five 20p coins for a longer shower) and the hot water is instant, no waiting for it to warm up.

The site was a lot bigger than we had anticipated with several camping fields, 2 being reserved for families. Whilst it is on a slope there are still plenty of flat areas.

Location is good, right in the middle of the Park but still close to Buxton or even Bakewell if you need a supermarket etc.

Freshly made pizzas & breakfast rolls from the farmhouse are a fantastic idea - as long as you book them either the previous evening or with 2 hours notice for the pizza's its an excellent service.

Being the super organised people we are, we only booked Knotlow on the Thursday before the bank holiday weekend. For a non EHU, it was £14 for 2 people (and a car), per night.

We arrived at around 6pm. At this point, most of the flat pitches had been taken so we had to pitch on a slight incline - this didn't bother us during the trip and we're not exactly expert campers, so it can't be too bad. We chose the site as it allowed camp fires and we spent each evening around a camp fire (as did most people on site). We took our own fire pit but they were available to rent.

It's a lovely site, facilities were all new and kept very clean although there were often early morning/late at night queues. It's about a 5-10 minute walk to the toilet block if you camp in one of the first two site areas as you enter.

We had a walk to the The Bull i' th' Thorn pub - It took about half an hour to get there. The food was good - the Black and Blue burger was particularly nice.

We used the site as a place to explore Derbyshire. We visited Chatsworth which was stunning but we thought it was quite overpriced and The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath which we really enjoyed and would recommend.

We'll be back as there is so much to do and we were too busy relaxing to get through it all!
