I chose this site because I often find farm bases more laidback and it mentioned spacious fields and for an August Bank Holiday that is what you are looking for. The owner was very friendly and said to turn up whenever on the Friday and there was no deposit to pay. The site is huge and was very busy but everyone was relaxed and there are several fields in which to camp. The site is surrounded by fields which helped give it an air of spaciousness even though it was really busy. As the previous reviewer has pointed out there are really not enough facilities to cope with large numbers. I never had to queue for one of the five toilets but there was always a queue for the showers, basins and washing up sinks and I am sure it is not quite so bad on weekends not in the holidays but for a site that big it is inadequate. As someone else pointed out a few more water taps would be useful.
However, considering this was August Bank Holiday I really liked the site. There were some slightly slopey pitches but I have camped on worse. I think a lot of the Peak District sites are slopey and rather exposed. Apart from my neighbours the first night, the curfew was adhered to. Allowing fires is also a plus. The location 7 miles either way from Bakewell and Buxton and enough away from the A515 was ideal. On a different weekend I think this would be a very relaxing site to camp in and I would return. If you do camp on a very busy weekend then this is by far one of the best and looking in on other sites I had been to made this one seem the best choice.

We telephoned here on the Thursday before the bank holiday after reading the reviews on this site and managed to get a cancellation for space for the weekend.
At £14 for 2 people and a car per night, it was good value.
Access to the site is easy and it is signposted off the main A515 road.
The campsite has quite a lot of sloping ground although we managed to find somewhere to pitch that wasn't too bad.
On arrival, we went to the farmhouse and saw Margaret who was friendly and gave us all the information we needed.
Breakfast baps are available for £5 and also pizzas for about £7. 50 which are good if you cant be bothered to cook although we didn't have any food on the site so couldn't comment on the quality.
This site allows camp fires in fire baskets and they are available to rent for £5 per day and logs are about £3 a bag
The campsite has had the shower and toilet block upgraded which was kept clean. 3 mens toilets and 5 ladies toilets service the whole site which in our opinion was too little. 4 or 5 showers for each of the ladies and gents and also a family shower room which we had no use for but was an excellent addition for the families staying on site. They could definitely do with adding another shower and toilet block as in my opinion, it was too small to service the busy periods.
There are 4 washing up sinks and there is washing up liquid available which was great as we forgot ours!
A small freezer is provided for ice packs but another one would certainly be welcome as it is very small.
Being bank holiday, it was obviously busy and we had to wait to do the washing up more than we had to wait to use the showers.
We walked to the Bull I' Th' Thorn pub on Sunday - a word of warning. This place closes on a sunday evening although we were lucky that he was still open as he had been busy. A nice pub which dates back to 1472 and full of old trinkets and history.
This campsite provides very easy access to many of the Derbyshire walks and cycle trails
We would come back here and would definitely recommend it but would probably avoid bank holidays as there are too few facilities.

The site was lovely and the countryside around was beautiful. The toilet block was clean but busy at the usual times.
Downside for us was that because there was four tents (all occupying adults over 40) we were put in Maple field, this was at the top of a hill and a good trek to the toilet block.
Not the campsites fault, but because we were pitched at the top of a hill it was windy +++. We came home a day earlier than planned. Would go again, but not to that field

The 6 of us stayed at Knotlow farm campsite in one of the holiday homes for the bank holiday weekend. The caravan was lovely, clean and tidy with quality linen duvets and towels all ready made up for us. In the living room there was everything we needed, including TV, DVD's, games, books, information pack with places to visit, etc.
The kitchen was fully equipped, the owners have thought of everything with a welcome bonus of milk, tea, coffee & sugar to get you going. A nice touch was the homemade lemon cup cakes left for us on arrival, yummy!
The site is very tidy and well kept. It was quite busy on this weekend but everyone was well behaved. The only criticism is that kids seemed to be making their own entertainment playing in the fields, maybe a play area might be a good idea for future?
On the last night we all ordered pizzas from the farmhouse they were fantastic and saved us cooking or a long drive to get a takeaway! I noticed they also sell breakfast baps which can be pre-ordered the night before.
The site is in a lovely location with lots of great walks and places to see, this is our second visit to Knotlow and we will definitely stay here again next time we're in The Peak District.

The most relaxing and friendly atmosphere I have encountered for a long time. This site offers all manner of options in which to stay, from holiday homes, bed and breakfast, a giant teepee and some weird looking mongolian style huts. I think. Or there's ample room for basic campers without electricity. There are some electric hook ups but we opted to stay on one of the hills overlooking the rest of the site. It was busy but it was a bank holiday and very hot and sunny.
The showers are clean and basic. 20p gets you 2 minutes. I got through 40p per shower but you can't hang about. There are only three sinks in the bathroom, not really enough for the size of the place especially at busy periods, but as I was reliant on my own fold up sink, it didn't really affect me. There was a queue most of the time for the 'sit down toilets' as there were again only three.
There were also pot washing facilities and a drinks machine, all in the same block with the toilets and showers. The fields were quite expansive and although there were water taps, if you stay further up the field, they can be quite a walk to get to. Perhaps another couple of small sheds with toilets and water taps? A round trip to ad from the toilet block was just over 10 minutes.
There is a strict 11pm quiet rule, which is 'mostly' respected. The only noise we had came from a rather loudly spoken yorkshireman, easily silenced by a pillow over the head (mine, not his!).
Overall, we were very pleased with the site. The facilities were clean and basic and there was the option to order food. Home made pizza and a breakfast bap. We did have te pizza, which was nice, but in the grand scheme of things, I thought a little expensive, I could not comment on the breakfast as I did draw the line at paying £5 for a bap.
Would I go again? most definitely, but I would like to see more water taps further up the fields and perhaps a few extra toilets.

Just returned from a long weekend camping. Our first time to this area but not to the Peaks. We arrived on site, given a warm friendly welcome. Excellent toilet/ shower block which is kept clean all the time. Lovely fields for pitching a tent but sloppy in places. Plenty of water supply points with soft water (coming from a city, one noticed the soft water). Plenty of waste disposal points on each area. I put 40p in the shower and it was plenty of time for me but showers need a shelf in them but other than that their nice. We went to Knotlow Farm for the walking and the distances to pubs! We all tuck full advantage of the pub crawls for lunch/dinner and of course a pint or 3; Bulls Head at Monyash 900yds, Bull-i-th-Thorn nr Flagg 1mile and also the Duke of York at Pomeroy 1. 1mile. They are all good easy walks too but you will need a torch at night. Flagg has a family run tea room at Edge Close Farm on the Main Street, a 15min walk, a very nice place but we personally thought it was expensive. Knotlow Farm is a working farm but it was quiet most of the time with the cows making the noise for their breakfast. Visited Chatsworth House and it was very busy and looked around the house for the first time (wow, shocked about how very little we got to see for our money and we were rushed around)… Other people made a complaint! Haddon Hall, the neighbouring estate was a much better place visit.
We stayed an extra night at Knowlow Farm and yes, definitely returning.

A beautiful, well kept campsite on a busy working tidy farm. Great communications, flexibility, stayed open for us even though season ended in October.
Firepits and fires what more can one ask for camping in Blighty. Excellent facilities, 20p shower, hot and powerful and a hot drink machine as well! check the piggies and cows! a lovely walk to nearby Monyash for the boozer! We'll come again!

On arrival we thought not sure about this. My husband went to check the toilet/shower block. He came back and said check this, it was very nice. Booked in at the bed and breakfast. Was told to choose our own pitch. Disappointed we had to pay 20p for the showers. Needed more than 1 coin. Nice site but very basic. Was not the best of weather, Sometimes when the sun shines it makes things look a lot better. We only stayed 1 night so we did not go out and about cant really comment on the location.

Just returned from a brilliant weekend camping with my sons. Arriving on site, given a friendly and relaxed welcome. Excellent toilet/ shower block which is kept immaculately clean- cleaned twice a day, clean pitches, plenty of water supply points, plenty of segregated waste disposal facilities. Five pitches with mains electrics. Food is available if pre-ordered from the owners plus B+B available in the farmhouse if required.
The site is central for a variety of attractions- several pubs nearby within walking distance, The Bulls Head at Moneyash is recommended- a free house with a good selection of beers and wines, good food, plus a friendly atmosphere and staff.
By car only a short run to Chatsworth House, Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock and countless other attractions- never short of somewhere to go or something to do. If walking is your thing you are totally spoilt for choice.
Overall an excellent relaxed experience - definitely on our list of sites to return to.

Arriving by bicycle, erecting a tiny two man tent and hiring a firebasket with a bag of wood - £25.
Too expensive to return again when cycle camping. If the two of us had arrived in a huge van with an eight man tent - we would have been charged the same price. I am disappointed that this site does not seem to offer a tiered pricing system. This is disappointing and seemingly a little unfair! Subsequently, any further expense laid out felt reluctant - reasonable enough 20p for two minute shower, but a further £1 to wash then shampoo and condition hair felt a little annoying on top of the £25!
That said and attempting to put my cynicism about the profiteering aside, the owners were friendly enough (although not overly helpful! Being very obvious that we had no transport other than bicycle, we were willingly rented a heavy fire basket (about a metre high and half metre diameter - very nice by the way) but the owner even struggled to lift it to place next to her parked van, so I could then carry it the length of the campsite to my pitch - not overly accommodating, welcoming or thoughtful!). The toilet block was clean and the washing up area was good.
The site itself is well maintained and the location is great. Certainly, why there was anybody camping on the two campsites less than half a mile away which are situated on the busy main road is a little perplexing, given this lovely site so nearby.
All in all, a nice site, but we did feel slightly aggrieved at the pricing. It was our second visit, the first having been in a five metre bell tent in our car and we'd had a great experience -which had cost exactly the same although we'd been using up 10 ten times the amount of space that our cycle camping set up took!
Unfortunately, this experience has left us with a negative perception of the site and hence we'll most likely not return. It does tend to colour ones view knowing one could spend £19 less for a similar experience in an even more picturesque location, as we had the previous evening!
