What a delight ! Babs and Gail are so helpful beyond all my expectations. They keep a beautiful site in a wonderful spot its a credit to them. I don't want to go on and on about this site because I want to keep it to myself and would visit often if I lived nearer. A lovely village is within walking distance and Oakham and Melton Mowbrey and Rutland Water a few minutes by car. What a find ! Thank you girls for all your help.

We have just spent a wonderful week at Greendale. The site is immaculate and beautifully maintained. Very peaceful, just the sound of birds and sheep. Very helpful wardens who gave us a welcome cup of tea as we pondered how to put up our new tent porch. We liked the consideration given to 'tenters'. Space in the fridge/benches for our use. Lovely honesty shop with fantastic tourist information. Really nice idea to have an individual welcome pack for each pitch. Highly recommended.

We stayed for only 3nights but they were very relaxing due to site being so peaceful. All staff helpful. Used the pool which was enjoyable. Facilities kept very clean. Only downside being only one shower so you can have to wait sometimes. Honesty shop was handy and used it. It also had lots of information available. Will return if visiting that area again. Handy for visiting Rutland Water and Oakham. Found White Lion at Whissendine had great cider and dog friendly. Would recommend Admiral Hornblower in Oakham. Visit to Oakham Castle well worth while.

What a wonderful site, a little gem. We had a brilliant holiday, the owners could not do enough for you, we got lost on the way there and they guided us there even offered to fetch us, it doesn't get any better than that. We will be going again many more times. We even went to the village pub which is about 15 mins walk away ( only had lime lemon ) yea right. Janice.

Barb & gail are wonderful wardens kind and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. They offered to help me sort the caravan when packing if hubby was poorly. The site is small but lovely. The facilities are spotless as is everything else. The shop is run on an honesty system & it works. It really is a tranquil site. Listening to the owl all night was wonderful.
The only criticism, though I am loathe to say as the wardens and site are brilliant, is that mowing the grass at 10:00 am on Sunday morning when some people who are staying later are having a lay in did stop it being tranquil. As the departure time is 12 perhaps it could happen then. Actually the grass didn't need cutting so it could have waited until later in the day when people were out.
This is a fabulous site in just the right place for visiting Rutland Water and gorgeous Oakham. Going and see the castle it has been refurbished and looks lovely.

Fabulous, but follow the instructions carefully and the signs on the A rd are overgrown. The ' induction' was by definition oh dear I didn't come for job, but not at all short, and then you are on your own. It was a quick informative explanation of well maintained site with 2 very very helpful wardens. Present but not invasive, always nearby if necessary.
Weather was not good so solar heated pool was 68f too cold.
As we met friends there word went round there was a 70 birthday while staying. , a very decent bottle of red and a card delivered to door. Great touch. Nearby Rutland Water, Oakham and fast cars (prestwold birthday present 15 miles away) Spotless, small shop site, adults only sensible dogs cuddled, Camt really say much more but the English weather. Ugh. Great site, great location, great staff, pub 20 mins walk.
Highly recommend and of course tree houses so bird life to die for.

I challenge anyone to find a better looked after site than this. Me and husband spent a week there, the main reason being for Rutland Water. £155 for 7 nights, hardstanding with electric.
Husband chose this site because it was adults only, walking distance to a village, and had a pool. It really is immaculate - neatly mowed grassed areas, stone chip hardstandings and equally the toilet/shower block. There are 2 loos for the ladies, not sure about gents but husband didn't complain so must have been okay. One shower I think, and another separate cubicle with a wash hand basin in. All spotless and they never closed them for cleaning. Very well organised and there was a useful utility room too. Fairly certain there was a fridge in there and a washing machine, numerous information leaflets and food/drink necessities for sale with provision of an honesty box. Also a really useful information/welcome pack was provided on loan for each pitch (at least ours definitely had our pitch number on it), with details of all the local amenities/attractions/emergency numbers etc. The wardens always seemed to be busy either trimming hedges, mowing the grass, cleaning - keeping the place looking spick and span, but never in your face. They were helpful, approachable, sociable, knowledgeable; I could go on. One particular couple arrived during our stay, and their jockey wheel had had an accident en route. Gail the warden asked if she could borrow ours to help them out. When I agreed she promptly removed the jockey wheel in one fell swoop, dropped it onto their van so they could pitch up, and handed it back as soon as they were set up - fabulous :)
The village of Whissendine we found to be a 30 minute stroll down the quiet country road opening out into the village. Saw a post office, a Spar shop with decent opening hours and of course the village pub. Oakham was about 4 miles away and Melton Mowbray (which we particularly liked not least for its market - or more specifically the cattle market in my opinion) was about 6 miles away. Also paid a visit to Stamford (Lincolnshire) while we were there. Lovely views at the site too, open fields with lots of sheep.
Our main purpose for choosing this lovely site was to visit Rutland Water. However, never got there on account the two occasions we arrived the heavens opened, so we gave up! Neither did we find anywhere suitable to just pull up in the car at the water's edge. Never mind, will have to go back and try again!

My wife and I enjoyed a long weekend at Greendale which is ideally located for us as we live in Derby and it's about an hours dive to Greendale. The site is located down a quite country lane, so do be wary on approach, and use the recommended approach route. Once on site the wardens could not do enough to help, but they were not intrusive and left you alone for privacy.
The facilities were fine for us, (1 gents toilet and 1 gents shower, 2 ladies toilets and 1 ladies shower) as the site was very quiet, only 2 units on site. I don't know how they would cope with more people on site, especially if there were a lot of tents.
There is a pleasant walk into Wissendine alone the very quiet country road, and once there we found a lovely little pub. There is also lots of cycle routes around, some on the quiet country roads. We had a lovely day out in Oakham, about a 30 minute bus journey(@ £5 return per person), apparently a taxi is about £17. For those who have transport then Rutland water is close by, with plenty of walking and cycling available.
All in all this is a really lovely and well maintained site the prices are a little higher than we normally pay, but still not bad value. During the winter the electricity is metered and we paid just under £8 for 3 nights which really wasn't bad.
We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning in the near future.

Have to say this is a excellent site. Nearby is a little village with a fantastic pub, Rutland water is a few miles away a great place to visit(cycling, walking). The owners and wardens are fantastic couldn't have asked for a better week.
Hope to visit again next year, just hope it's not fully booked.
Keep up the good work.

If you want peace and quite with great facilities and to be near Oakham and Rutland Water then look no further than this little beauty, facilities are spotless, wardens are lovely and are quick to help and they keep the place like a manicured garden. This has a little shop and even has a little swimming pool and red kites above. Cannot fault this place and would look to return next time we are down this way. Just heed the advise given and approach from the A606. 5 stars !
